The TDP chief is meeting members of backward castes, particularly Gouds, from the region and egging on them to `expose’ the TRS chief who has more or less become synonymous with the Telangana movement.

Kiran faces power cut threat to houses, offices

Hyderabad, September 25: The striking employees of the electricity department in Telangana have threatened to cut power supply to the houses and offices of Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and other ministers in Hyderabad.

As the indefinite ‘people’s strike’ demanding separate statehood to Telangana entered the 12th day Saturday, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of electricity employees said they would resort to power cuts if the government failed to respond favourably to the demand.

Normal life thrown out of gear in Telangana

Hyderabad September 25: With all trains cancelled, auto-rickshaws off the road, and the state Road Transport Corporation buses already standing idle, Telangana region came to a standstill Saturday.

Adding to the people’s difficulties, particularly of those passing through the state, all trains were cancelled by railway authorities in view of the two-day “rail blockade” called by those agitating for a separate Telangana state.

All the trains between Hyderabad and destinations like like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Guwahati, Patna, Rajkot and Balharshah have been cancelled.

In a bid to intensify the stir, the auto-drivers also will observe a 48-hour bandh from midnight on Friday even as violence erupted across the region with Telangana TDP and TRS cadres locking horns with one another across the region.

Gali custody, bail hearing on Sept 29

Hyderabad, September 25: The Special CBI court on Friday re-posted the hearing on CBI’s petition seeking custody of Obulapuram Mining Company managing director BV Srinivas Reddy and director Gali Janardhan Reddy to September 29.

After a six-day-long interrogation of the accused by the CBI that came to an end on September 19, the CBI’s counsel filed a petition in the court seeking a further nine-day-long custody of the accused to interrogate them further in connection with alleged illegal mining.

TJAC plans to paralyse rail traffic

Hyderabad, September 25: The proposed 48-hour rail roko by the Telangana Joint Action Committee is set to start from Saturday morning all over the Telangana region.

With the rail roko, TJAC plans to break the rail transportation link between south and north to make the Centre understand the gravity of the situation in Telangana.

According to TJAC leadership, the South Central Railways has nearly 1500-km tracks in Telangana and rail transport would be paralysed to create impact on the state and central governments.

MIM will not support Telangana

Hyderabad, September 25: The Majls-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen has made it clear that it will not support the on-going Sakala Janula Samme, the general strike, for Telangana.

Addressing a press conference at MIM’s headquarters Darulsalaam here on Sunday, MIM president and Hyderbad MP Asaduddin Owaisi said that the on-going agitation has been causing lot of inconvenience to the common man.

“Nearly 25-30 lakh poor are literally starving due to the general strike and therefore, there is no question of support the present agitation,” he said.

Khar called back by Gilani

Islamabad,September 26 : Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Sunday called back foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar from the US amid strained ties with Washington following an accusation that Pakistan was supporting the Haqqani terror network.

Khar was called back for consultations over the strained relationship between Pakistan and the US, Online news agency quoted sources as saying.

Chidambaram should be in Jail

New Delhi,September 26 : Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday said home minister P Chidambaram should be in jail for his alleged involvement in the 2G spectrum scam.

“The proof against Chidambaram is overwhelming. He should be in jail with A Raja,” BJP leader Yashwant Sinha told reporters here.

He also said the prime minister acted on Chidambaram’s advice on the 2G spectrum allocation, and his silence showed his approval.

Chidambaram was the finance minister at the time the spectrum was allocated in 2008.

Poverty has increased in India

New Delhi, September 25: The current debate over poverty, if Rs.32 a day is enough for a person, is misdirected and the government should answer why the numbers of poor in the country are on the rise, says National Advisory Council member N.C. Saxena.

“The government’s estimate for poverty in 1972-73 was benchmarked at Rs.1.50 per day. It translates into Rs.32 per day today. There is nothing new with this estimate,” said the retired bureaucrat, known for speaking his mind, even in front of prime ministers.

Woman held for killing husband

New Delhi, September 25: A woman, along with her paramour and his accomplice, has been arrested for murdering her husband who used to beat her over her illicit affair, police said Saturday.

Arti, 32, Sant Saran Nehra, 32, and Mirdul Dixit, 30, were arrested Friday.

Police said Arti hatched a plan with the other two to kill her husband Sonu, 32, at their home in Moti Nagar in west Delhi.

Accordingly, the two men entered the couple’s home late Wednesday night and attacked Sonu with a sharp object. To disguise the entire incident as a case of robbery, they tied up Arti and fled.

Young girl dies in road accident

Hyderabad, September 25: 19 year old Rubab Atifa died in a road accident occurred at Osmania University campus. The accident occurred near AMS Kaman at Osmania University campus where Rubab, daughter of MA Qadeer Baig, resident of Seetaphalmandi was hit by a Tata vehicle while she was crossing the road and died on the spot. City colleges told to curb ragging

Hyderabad, September 25: District officials asked managements of professional colleges to take concrete measures to check ragging in educational institutions by creating awareness on its ill-effects.

The district collector, Mr S.A.M. Rizvi, commissioner of police, Mr P. Anil Kapoor’s father dead

Mumbai, September 25: Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor’s father, producer Surinder Kapoor passed away on Saturday evening, Sep 24 following a heart attack. Kapoor died at the age of 88.

Kapoor was also the president of the Film and Television Producers Guild of India from 1995 to 2001.He was awarded with L.V. Prasad Phalke Award in 2009.

Kapoor was well known as a filmmaker to reckon with in the ’70s and ’80s. He produced films like Ponga Pandit (1975), Hum Paanch (1980) and Woh Saat Din (1983). His last film as a producer was No Entry in 2005, along with his son Anil Kapoor.

A.P. High Court lifts age limit for Group I exams

Hyderabad, September 25: A division bench of A.P. High Court comprising Justice V.S. Rao & Justice K.G. Shankar directed the APPSC to allow the candidates who have secured 83% marks in Group I (Preliminary) to write the examination which commences on 25th September 2011.

The judges opined that the restriction of age limit would affect the quality and by lifting this ban on age limit, they allowed the candidates to write the exams.

Group I Services Exam – CPM demands for postponement

Hyderabad, September 25: CPI(M) Floor leader in Assembly Mr. J. Ranga Reddy demanded the CM to postpone Group I exams in view of the present transport strike. If the CM doesn’t yield to this demand, agitation would be launched against him. Talking to newsmen, he said that A.P. High Court has allowed 1004 candidates to write Group I (Main) examination but the situation in the state seems to be uncertain which is not appropriate for conducting these examinations.

Group I Services Exam – Keshava Rao represents for postponement

Hyderabad, September 25: Dr. K. Keshava Rao, Chairman Congress Steering Committee met Mr. K. Jana Reddy yesterday evening and appealed to him to represent to the CM to postpone Group I exams in view of the collapse of transport system in the state.

Mr. Jana Reddy told him that he would write a letter to CM requesting him to postpone these exams. Prof. Kondandaram said that auto drivers and bus drivers are on strike and it is not possible for the candidates to reach the exam centers but the CM is adament on conducting the exams. He requested the CM to postpone the same.
