4 parties yet to make up mind on ‘T’

New Delhi, August 05: The Union Home Minister pointed out that out of the eight political parties, only three have expressed their views and came out openly for a separate Telangana state. They are TRS, BJP and CPI. The other parties Congress along with PRP which had merged, and the TDP are divided on the issue, the CPM had opposed bifurcation, the MIM has not spelt out a division and the newly formed YSR Congress Party has not taken any view on the issue, he explained.

Gaddafi son killed in NATO airstrike

Benghazi, August05: A NATO raid killed Muammar Gaddafi’s son Khamis and more than 30 other people, rebels said today, as Tripoli accused the alliance of targeting civilian sites and trying to create a humanitarian crisis.

Khamis Gaddafi, 28, was confirmed to be among the dead following a NATO air strike on a command centre in the western town of Zliten, a rebel spokesman told media, citing spies operating among Gaddafi’s ranks.

Woman gets back phone with dead son’s messages

Beijing, August 05: A woman got back her lost mobile phone that contained the last voice messages of her son who died of cancer, thanks to an internet campaign in China. One of the messages said: “Mom, don’t cry. I love you”.

Police in China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region traced the phone following tip-offs from microbloggers.

The phone belonged to Wang Guolan, whose 19-year-old son Cheng died last year, the Shanghai Daily reported citing the Shanghai Evening Post.

The phone was a “spiritual support” for Wang since it contained Cheng’s messages.

Rossaiah asks T leaders to postpone agitation

Hyderabad, August 05: Former chief minister K Rosaiah on Friday appealed to Seemandra and Telangana leaders, employees and students to postpone the statehood agitation temporarily as United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi, who underwent surgery at New York, is not available to resolve the issue.

Talking to media persons at Congress Legislature Party Office, Rosaiah said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi has to play active role in resolving the Telangana issue and without her presence the Centre cannot take any decision.

Chidambaram asks political parties to decide on Telangana

New Delhi, August 05: Faced with a ticklish situation, the government on Friday threw the ball in the court of the political parties in Andhra Pradesh for a decision on the issue of separate state of Telangana.

Responding to a Calling Attention Motion on the Telangana issue, Home Minister P Chidambaram told the Lok Sabha that as many as four political parties of Andhra Pradesh out of eight have not yet “made up their mind” on Telangana.

Three parties — TRS, BJP and CPI — favoured carving out of the new state while CPI(M) is opposed to the idea, he said.

Suspend harsh headmaster: CM

Hyderabad, August 5: Chief Minister N Kiran Reddy on Thursday directed Mahaboobnagar DEO to suspend headmaster Venkatram of Pudunuru ZP High School who had punished a class VII student Naveen Kumar on July 26 for playing outside the class in the absence of a teacher.

Naveen Kumar collapsed and was later, hospitalised after he obeyed headmaster’s orders and did 100 sit-ups. He was shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad on Wednesday after his condition deteriorated.

HC notice to civic officials on encroachments

Hyderabad, August 5: The PIL bench of the AP High Court comprising chief justice Nisar Ahmad Kakru and justice Vilas Afzalpurkar on Thursday ordered notice to the civic authorities on a complaint that they were not removing the illegal constructions and encroachments on the road leading to Kanipakam near Tirupati.

The petitioner R. Gopalakrishna Choudary, a resident of Chittoor, complained that the road from Uttara Brahmanapalli to the temple and beyond on the way to the famous Ganesh temple at Kanipakam had a number of illegal constructions.

Housewife strangled to death by robbers

Hyderabad, August 5 : A 40-year-old housewife was found murdered at her residence in Golconda in the city early on Wednesday morning and 7.5 tolas of gold worth Rs 1.50 lakh was found missing.
“We suspect that a few unidentified persons who came to her house for theft murdered her,” said Mohammed Yousuf, sub-inspector of Golconda.
Around 12.30 a.m. on Wednesday, a few persons entered the house of Gouri Shanker and Rita Devi Shukla.

Rita was asleep in the bedroom at the time while Gouri Shanker was sleeping with their child Dheeraj Shukla in the main hall of the house.

DJS president dies of heart attack

APSRTC staff to go on strike on August 7

Hyderabad, August 5: With talks between APSRTC, Hyderabad Zone officials and employees union (EU) failing over implementation of GO No 90 and regularising contract workers in the corporation, the union leaders on Thursday declared that they would go on strike on August 7 in the city.

“As many as 10,000 members of the Employees Union will boycott their duties and participate in the strike on August 7,” said K Raji Reddy, zonal secretary, APSRTC employees union.
