Villagers fearing ill-effects of murder

Khammam, August 6: Over 70 SC families of Arekodu village in the district deserted the village fearing ill-effects after the murder of a person in the village.

According to information, one Arempula Srinivas (48) was allegedly hacked to death by his wife Alivelu and son Suresh last week in the village. Believing it to be a human sacrifice, the villagers were apprehensive of the ill-effects it could have on their lives and fled the village. They are taking shelter in a school and a church on the outskirts of the village.

Nine in police net for gambling

Hyderabad, August 6: Police arrested nine persons involved in gambling at a house and recovered Rs 46,000, 13 cell phones, 3 two-wheelers and a car from their possession.

M Kistaiah, assistant commissioner of police, South Zone said around 5 a.m on Friday, sleuths of Moghalpura police raided a house at Shaheen Heights at Sultan Shahi in Moghalpura on a tip-off, and arrested nine persons involved in gambling.

GHMC chided on illegal structures

Hyderabad, August 6: Justice NV Ramana disapproved of the claims of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) that it had demolished over 13,000 ‘illegal structures’ in the last month.

Chiding the authorities, justice Ramana asked as to how 13,000 illegal structures were permitted in the first place.

He criticised the methodology of first permitting illegal structures and then introducing regulation fee. He made it clear that the court would soon pass a detailed order setting down guidelines.

Auto driver held for theft

Hyderabad, August 6: Task Force police arrested an auto driver who had stolen the luggage of a passenger, Rambhatla Sateesh, on Friday, who travelled in his auto-rickshaw from Sagar ring road to road no. 2, Banjara Hills.

Police also recovered one laptop, one passport and three bags containing valuable articles from the accused. Police said Banoth Yadi, an auto driver and resident of Gowliguda was trying to sell off a stolen laptop and was held by north zone Task Force sleuths.

Firing in Kuwait, 4 AP workers killed

Jeddah, August 6: 4 persons who died in a shocking firing incident in Kuwait have been identified and it was found that they all were Indians workers and belonged to Andhra Pradesh state. This has been confirmed by Indian embassy in Kuwait. The embassy sources told that two deceased have been identified as T Naresh Kumar (Kadapa) and M Ramnaiah (Chittoor). Kuwait police handed over their passports and death report to Indian embassy. Family members of the dead have been informed about the incident. The remaining two deceased M O Reddy belonged to Chittor while Ramabheem belonged to Nellore.

Somalian with fake papers held

Hyderabad, August 6: Another Somalian national was caught on Thursday when she tried to travel to Nairobi with a fake visa and passport from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

Mariya Emli (24), was detained by airport immigration officials while she submitted her fake visa and passport, police said. RGIA SI Kiran Kumar said that Mariya came to the city three months back on a tourist visa issued by Indian embassy at Nairobi.

Demand for BE seats falls in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad, August 6: Andhra Pradesh, the biggest producer of engineers in India, might face a serious shortage of students this year. If the ongoing counselling for admission to engineering colleges is any indication, more than 40 percent seats are expected to remain vacant in various engineering colleges this academic year.

Only 1.36 lakh out of 2.07 lakh qualified candidates turned up for verification of certificates during the week-long process which concluded on August 3. About 71,000 stayed away from counselling.

Ramalinga Raju’s bail plea dismissed

Hyderabad, August 6: The XXI Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate on Thursday dismissed the bail petition of B Ramalinga Raju, former chairman of Satyam Computers and seven others.

One more autopsy of Anil Reddy ordered

Hyderabad, August 6: Justice Ramesh Ranganathan of the AP High Court on Friday directed the police commissioner to conduct another post-mortem on the body of Anil Reddy, the young music director who died under mysterious circumstances.
Prakash Reddy, brother of Anil Reddy, filed a writ petition in the court complaining that the second post-mortem report of Anil Reddy (which said he died of brain hemorrhage), was suspect. The judge directed the police commissioner to appoint a panel of two government doctors, who would submit a report to the court in two weeks.

Makkah, August 06: Sheikh Saleh Al-Talib, imam and khatib at the Grand Mosque, called on Muslims to fortify their faith in Almighty Allah as a means to wipe clean their hearts of hatred and hostility.

New Delhi, August 06: Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan has wished Congress president Sonia Gandhi a speedy recovery after she underwent surgery for an undisclosed ailment.

Bachchan, who was in the capital to promote his upcoming movie, Aarakshan, said, “We wish Soniaji recovers as soon as possible. Our prayers and good wishes are with her.”

Bachchan’s film, which explores the politics behind reservation, is already raising questions from various political party. His recent visit to Lucknow was cancelled over law and order concerns. The film releases on August 12.

Six women killed in firecracker unit blaze

Sivakasi, August 06:Six women employees were charred to death in a fire that broke out in a firecracker unit at Kalaiyarkurichi near here on Friday.

Six others, including two men, who sustained serious burns, were referred to Government Rajaji hospital in Madurai.

Friction while handling chemicals could have led to the accident, killing the women on the spot at around 2 p.m., Virudhunagar Collector, M. Balaji, said.

Among the injured, two had sustained 100 per cent injuries and the remaining around 80 per cent, he added.
