3 workers from AP shot dead in Kuwait

Hyderabad, August 06: Three workers from Andhra Pradesh and another Indian were killed when a police officer went on a shooting spree in three different locations in Kuwait on the first day of Ramzan on last Monday. The Indian embassy on Friday confirmed the deaths of the four Indians.

They were identified as Nallagutta Ramanaiah, Tokala Naresh Kumar, Masagiri Obul Reddy and Rambeem. All the four were shot dead by the mentally unsound officer of the ministry of interior, Hytam Al-Hazeri, who was later arrested by the security men.

Crimes against women up by 18 percent in Pakistan

Islamabad, August 06: Crimes against women, including forced marriages and sexual assaults, have risen by 18 percent in Pakistan over a period of one year, reveals a report.

According to a Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) report, the number of reported crimes has risen from 849 in May 2010 to 999 in May 2011, Daily Times reported Saturday.

FAFEN was established in 2006 as a coalition of approximately 30 leading civil society organisations in Pakistan with the primary objective of mobilising voters and observing the general elections that took place in February 2008.

Hyderabad, August 6: The Urdu language faces degeneration instead of promotion in the state due to the step motherly treatment meted out by Andhra Pradesh state towards it. The Andhra Pradesh State Urdu Academy, an institution which has been established with an aim to preserve, promote and develop Urdu language, has always been ignored by the government with regard to provision of grant. With the attitude meted out by the government towards Urdu academy it seems as if the state government feels the Andhra Pradesh Urdu Academy as a burden.

High alert sounded at city airport

Hyderabad, August 06: A high alert has been sounded at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad ahead of Independence Day and all VIP passes have been cancelled. The police has intensified the checking at all entry points as well as the surroundings of the airport.

The Cyberabad commissioner of police, Mr Ch D. Tirumala Rao, said, “Security has been stepped up as a part of the regular alert for the Independence Day celebrations.”

Armed cops have also been posted at key organisations including the state police headquarters at Lakdikapul.

New Delhi, August 06: Congress president Sonia Gandhi has been shifted out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a hospital abroad where she was operated upon for an undisclosed ailment, a senior party leader said here Saturday.

“Sonia Gandhi remained in the ICU for 24 hours and has thereafter been moved out. Her family has expressed gratitude on her behalf for all the messages and good wishes that have been sent to her,” Congress spokesperson Janardan Dwidedi said.

Gunman killed at Saudi prince’s palace

Riyadh, August 06: Security forces shot dead a gunman as he opened fire on the Jeddah palace of Saudi interior minister Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz early on Saturday, said a source close to the government.

Another man was arrested during the attack in which “two men opened fire after midnight on the Qasr Shateh residence of Prince Nayef (and) the security forces retaliated, killing one of them,” the source told AFP.

The nature of the attack was “individual and isolated” and did not bear the hallmarks of any organisation, the source said in reference to the al-Qaida terror network.

Maharashtra ATS on terrorists radar: Report

Mumbai, August 06: Officers belonging to Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad are on the radar of terrorist who may target them using parcel bombs. The ATS has been alerted of the same by the Intelligence Wing.

The ATS has in turn warned all its offices of the lurking danger. All offices including Nanded, Akola, Nagpur, Nasik have been warned not to accept any parcel or courier sent from an unknown person or an unknown address.

Hyderabad, August 6 (Siasat News): Police Moghalpura arrested nine persons who were involved in gambling and seized Rs. 46000, 13 cellphones and 3 motorbikes from their possession.

Inspector Moghalpura Mr. Syed Fayyaz said that many gambling dens are reportedly running in Moghalpura. Police would also raid them. He added that on a tip off, the gambling den being run Shaheen Heights was raided and nine persons were arrested.

RTC cracks whip on ticketless passengers

Woman, two sons found murdered at home; husband absconding

Meerut, August 06: A woman along with her two minor sons was found murdered inside her house in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district on Friday, police said.

Renu, 35, and her two sons Vishal, 14, and Raja, 12, were found murdered in Lalkurti area.

“It appears the three were attacked with some sharp-edged weapons,” police inspector Ramakant Chaturvedi told reporters in Meerut, some 450-km from Lucknow.

“We are yet to ascertain the motive behind the crime,” he added.

Police suspect Renu’s husband could be involved in the killings. He is absconding after the incident.

Dengue claims infant’s life

Srikakulam, August 6: With the death of a 20-month-old child in Kummaripeta village of Narasannapeta mandal, dengue death toll has gone up to five in the district this year.

Sampathi Jhansi, was admitted to a children’s hospital in Srikakulam following fever since Saturday. As her condition did not improve, her father and mother took her to King George Hospital in Vizag on the advice of doctors who confirmed that she was suffering from dengue.

State’s first Passport Seva Kendra opens

Visakhapatnam, August 6: The Passport Seva Kendra (PSK), the flagship of e-governance initiative by the Ministry of External Affairs in association with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for a comprehensive reform of passport issuing system was inaugurated in Visakhapatnam on Friday. Cops pester bed-ridden man for missing son

Karimnagar, August 6: A bed-ridden 84-year-old Borukani Mallaiah, a resident of Dontapur village on the border of Karimnagar and Adilabad districts, has been facing harassment of a different kind from the police for the last six months.

The police have been asking Mallaiah to produce a death certificate’ of his son B Rajaiah to close the theft case pending against him. However, Mallaiah says his son has been missing for 23 years.
