Former CRPF jawan arrested for property offences

Hyderabad, August 7: The Central Crime Station police nabbed an ex-personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force in connection with various property offences in several localities in the city. J Satyanarayana, deputy commissioner of police (Crime) said police have arrested Kattamanchi Govardhan alias Kartthik alias Jayasurya, a resident of CRPF Quarters, Chandrayangutta and native of Vallivedu village in Chittoor district for committing various property offences. The DCP said the accused has been committing offences since 2007.

Jagan to unveil 160 YSR statues in Krishna

Vijayawada, August 7: The YSR Congress has finalised the schedule of Odarpu Yatra Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy. As part of his Odarpu Yatra, Jagan will tour Krishna district from August 15 to console the bereaved families who lost their members after the tragic demise of YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
Jagan will begin his Yatra from Vatsavai mandal in Jaggaiahpet. He will cover all 16 Assembly segments in Krishna district.

YSR Congress’s Bhumana Karunakar Reddy said Jagan will console all 60 bereaved families. He will also unveil 160 statues of YSR during his 1,150 km yatra.

China’s Valentine’s Day: Over 4,200 couples get married

Beijing, August 07:As many as 4,251 couples registered their marriage here Saturday on China’s Valentine’s Day, authorities said.

The numbers were 10 times than that of the daily average and was about 200 more than that on the Feb 14 Valentine’s Day, Xinhua reported citing the Beijing Daily.

Expecting a heavy rush, some marriage registration bureaus here began work an hour early.

China’s Valentine’s Day “Qixi” falls on the seventh day of the seventh month on the country’s lunar calendar.

Woman kills boyfriend as suicide pact sours

Islamabad, August 07:A woman shot dead her boyfriend after they had a quarrel when they were about to commit suicide in this Pakistani capital, police said.

The 20-year-old man was shot dead by his girlfriend Saturday in Chara village.

The police said the woman and the man were in love and wanted to marry but their families were opposed to it, reported Dawn.

They then entered into a suicide pact and met in an abandoned house.

It was decided that woman would shoot the man and later turn the pistol on herself, the media report said.

However, they had an argument.

British soldier killed by Afghan boy for $80

London, August 07:A British soldier was blown up by a boy in Afghanistan for just $80 he was promised for the act, a media report said.

Stephen Curley, 26, died instantly when the 14-year-old set off a roadside bomb, The Star newspaper reported Saturday.

When Aga Wali went to collect his cash, Taliban militants broke their promise and refused to pay up, telling him he should have been fighting for religious reasons, not money.

The boy was left feeling betrayed, and confessed to the crime days later after his dad turned him in to police.

Hyderabad, August 07: Defending himself against the allegations levelled against him by Congress MP Gutta Sukhender on Saturday, former chief minister K Rosaiah on Sunday said that he did not introduce a resolution on Telangana in the state Assembly because it was doomed to fail.

“Would it have been good for Telangana if I had got a resolution on the separate state introduced in the Assembly and it was defeated?,” Mr Rosaiah said, countering Mr Sukhender’s accusation that he had failed to get a resolution passed in the state Assembly during his stint as chief minister.

M Tech student commits suicide for Telangana

Hyderabad, August 07: Apparently dismayed over the statement of Union Home Minister P Chidmabaram on Telangana in the Lok Sabha, an M Tech student hanged himself to death at his residence in Mandamarri town.

According to police, the incident took place late on Saturday, but came to light on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as R Srikanth, who was pursuing M Tech (Mechatronics) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTU-H).

Two militants killed in Kashmir

Srinagar, Augus 07: Two terrorists, including a top Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operative, were gunned down early Sunday in Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

Acting on prior information, the army and the police carried out a joint operation at a hideout of the terrorists in Darsangla, a forested area of Surankote in Poonch district, 220 km north of here.

One of the slain militants was identified as Divisional Commander of LeT Abu Usman from Pakistan, an official told IANS.

“This has dealt a severe blow to the LeT in Jammu region,” said a senior police officer here.

Washington, August 07: Radical anti-US cleric Moqtada al-Sadr warned that any US training mission in Iraq after 2011 would amount to an occupation force and need to be opposed by “military means,” in a letter seen on Sunday.

The letter, released on Saturday in the Shiite cleric’s base in the shrine city of Najaf, came after Baghdad agreed to open talks with Washington for a training mission post-2011, when all US troops are due to have left.
