City schools say no to Telangana-holiday

Hyderabad, August 09: The announcement by the Telangana Recognised Private Schools Managements’ Association (TRPSMA) in Warangal on Sunday over the indefinite closure of schools from August 17, came as a shock to the managements of private schools in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts.

Even parents and students in the city were shocked to hear about the move — part of the ‘general strike’announced by various T- employees’ associations.

Surprisingly, the school managements are not aware of the existence of any association called TRPSMA.

US hands over Rana documents to India

New Delhi, August 09: India has received documents on 26/11 conspirator Tahawwur Hussain Rana from the US, said reports on Monday.

According to sources quoted by TV news channels, the documents contain evidence produced in a US court in Chicago during the trial of Rana. The evidence includes phone records, personal diaries etc.

The tapes containing conversations between 26/11 accused David Headley, Rana and fellow 26/11 conspirator Abdur Rehman Pasha have also been given to the Indian authorities by the US, sources said.

Telangana demand: Govt employees begin protests

Hyderabad, August 09: Andhra Pradesh government employees in Telangana on Monday kicked off protests in support of the separate statehood demand, among others, which will culminate in a general strike from August 17.

The pro-Telangana government employees held protests, including lunch-hour demonstrations and ‘work to rule’, in their offices in Hyderabad and other Telangana districts.

The government employees unions plan to intensify their stir in a phased manner.

Fake AP online franchise busted

Hyderabad, August 09: A computer operator of a private firm was nabbed on Monday, for collecting money in the name of running an AP Online franchise and accepting e-challans issued by traffic police.

On information, Task Force sleuths raided Fame Consultancy, running from Moosarambagh and nabbed its computer operator Mohd Fayaz, a resident of Owaisinagar. Police said the consultancy was run by Mohd Hameed Shareef of Gaddiannaram, who is absconding. Fayaz has been working in the consultancy since the past two years, police said.

U-turn at Masab Tank

Hyderabad, August 09: The Hyderabad Traffic Police has allotted right U-turn from Masab Tank to Lakdikapul, for the convenience of people travelling towards Niloufer Hospital, Bazaarghat and A.C. Guards on the opposite side.

Earlier, people had to travel all the way from Masab Tank, Mahaveer, Ayodhya Junction via Nirankari and Lakdikapul and then take right turn to go towards the Bazaarghat side.

People had requested traffic police to provide a vent between Masab Tank and Lakdikapul which would save fuel and time.

Hyderabad, August 09: Commuters from Masab Tank intended to go towards Bazaar Ghat, Niloufer Hospital or AC Guards can save petrol and time on that extra round trip via Nirankari and Lakdikapul from now on, as the city police has decided to allow a U-turn at Ayodhya junction.

Following repeated representations from commuters regarding the lack of a right or U-turn at Ayodhya junction, traffic police has decided to implement it for the benefit of those who want to take a U-turn or go towards the right side while travelling from Masab Tank to Lakdikapul.

Infant’s body found in Borabanda

Hyderabad, August 9 (Siasat News): Police has recovered the dead body of a female infant who is said to be of four months.

The people of the locality were taken aback after spotting the dead body near a drainage canal situated at site three.

According to police Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar, police recovered the dead body on the information given by a lady Sharmila Jadhav and shifted it to the Gandhi Hospital mortuary for identification. Police S R Nagar is investigating.

Muslim heads ask activists to postpone stir

Hyderabad, August 09: The Muslim community heads urged all political parties, students and the joint action committees in the state to postpone their agitation, bandhs and other demonstrations that affect the common man till the culmination of the holy month of Ramzan.  

They said that the recent agitation programmes being carried out by the Telangana and Andhra JACs are causing huge discomfort, loss in business and also hindrance to the Muslim community which is celebrating Ramzan.

Pregnant girl moves SHRC

Hyderabad, August 09: Reportedly when a 19-year-old girl, seven months pregnant, approached a Talakondapalli sub-inspector of Police from Mahbubnagar district and asked him to get her married to the boy she loved, he curtly told her he would do so only if a DNA test proved the boy’s paternity.

The girl from Khanapur in Talakondapalli mandal along with her parents approached the State Human Rights Commission on Monday.

The SHRC acting chairperson, K. Peda Peri Reddy, directed the Mahbubnagar SP to inquire into the incident and submit a detailed report.

Mild tension grips Attapur as SI objects on mosque cleaning

Hyderabad, August 9: Mild tension gripped the Attapur area near Rajendarnagar yesterday night when a sub inspector objected on cleaning of mosque. It is said that cleaning of Qutub Shahi mosque was being carried out in Attapur during Ramadan. Fearing rain the mosque authorities laid canvas shade at the mosque on which sub inspector Tirupati objected and misbehaved with the mosque authorities. The mosque authorities and worshipers protested against sub inspector’s misbehaviour. The local people demanded the high officials take strict action against the sub inspector.

UK soldier cut Taliban fingers to keep as souvenir

London, August 09: England’s Ministry of Defence is investigating claims that a soldier allegedly sliced fingers off a dead Taliban militant to keep as souvenirs.

It is understood the allegations relate to a soldier from the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (an infantry battalion) who was serving in Afghanistan, the BBC reported today.

The claims centre on the battalion’s last tour of duty in the war-torn country. The solider was deployed in Helmand province from September 2010 until April this year, tasked with training Afghan police.

Major injustice to T in hospital recruitments: KCR

Hyderabad, August 09: Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday alleged that Telangana people have suffered a major injustice during recruitments in hospitals.

Expressing solidarity to the doctors and nurses, who observed a one-day Deeksha at Gandhi Hospital demanding introduction of Telangana Bill in the Parliament, KCR alleged Seemandhra people have managed to get a lion share of posts in Telangana hospitals.

3 Muslims injured in miscreants’ attack at Mangalhat

Hyderabad, August 9: Tension prevailed during Taraweeh prayers at Allahbanda area of Mangalhat, on Monday, where 3 Muslim youth suffered injuries in miscreants’ attack of which one person’s condition is said to be critical. Tension generated when a gang of miscreants, the alleged supporter of Raja Singh, surrounded a youth named Moosa and also attacked two youth Esa and Rafeeq who were passing by. According to locals the kirana shop owner Anil, Satyanarayana, Sai, Sridhar, Kumar, Saikumar and others attacked the three youth with iron rods and also beat them.

US convinces Saleh not to return to Yemen: report

Dubai, August 09: US officials have convinced Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, convalescing in Saudi Arabia from an assassination attempt, not to return to his country, the pan-Arab newspaper Asharq al-Awsat reported on Monday.

The report came a day after the veteran Arab leader left hospital in Riyadh and was moved to a government residence for further recuperation, as mass protests against his 33-year rule wore into their seventh month.

Maid sues Strauss-Kahn for attempted rape

New York, August 09: Former International Monetary Fund Chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn has been sued by the New York Hotel maid for trying to rape her and she has also asked for an unspecified compensation.

Her move came as prosecutors deliberated whether to drop sex assault charges against Strauss-Kahn or take him to trial.

The 17-page court filing Monday alleged a “violent and sadistic attack” in the Manhattan Sofitel room where the maid Nafissatou Diallo went to clean Strauss-Kahn’s luxury room on May 14, the New York Post reported

Hazare fast venue to be finalised in two days

New Delhi, August 09: The Delhi police will finalise within two days the venue for social activist Anna Hazare’s indefinite fast against the government’s Lokpal Bill.

Earning less than Rs 1000 in UAE puts you below poverty line

Dubai, August 09: If you earn less than Dh 80 (Rs 960) a day in the UAE, you would be living below poverty line, according to the Dubai Economic Council.

That income is high compared to the global rate of Dh 4.6 (Rs 55) a day, and over three billion people or almost half the world’s population lives on less than Dh 9.2 (Rs 108) a day, the National newspaper said.

UAE is indeed very rich as they are among the largest producers of oil and Abu Dhabi and Dubai control 83.2 per cent of the UAE’s wealth. But poverty is relative.

Washington, August 09: Despite the recent attack on US troops in which 30 soldiers were killed in a helicopter crash, US President Barack Obama seemed hopeful about success in Afghanistan.

British PM to hold crisis talks on London riots, cleanup starts

London, August 09: The British Prime Minister David Cameron was to hold crisis talks on Tuesday after three nights of riots, looting and arson by masked, hooded youths that wrecked shopping centers in many parts of London and spread to three other cities.

Neighborhoods across the capital faced a massive clean-up of smashed glass, bricks, bottles and gutted buildings as police reinforcements reclaimed the streets from the youths who had coordinated the looting via mobile phones and social media.
