Special Ramadan programme for college girls

Hyderabad, August 9: A special Ramadan programme for college girls will be conducted by Muslim Girls Association. Power point presentation will be displayed on Quran and science besides the topics blessings of Ramadan, importance of fast and directives of Zakat.

The special Ramadan programme will be held at Shadan Engineering College, Khairtabad and Saint Ann’s Mehdipatnam on Tuesday August 9 at 1:30 pm. Apart from that Ramadan programmes will also be held at Khursheed Jahi Musheerabad and Bagh-e-Jahan Ara, near Rasheed function Hall.

Four-tier security net for SI recruitment test

Hyderabad, August 09: Revealing that a four tier security net would be in place, Hyderabad Range Deputy Inspector General Nagireddy on Tuesday warned of serious action against any person who attempts to disrupt the recruitment examinations for filling up the vacant Sub-Inspectors posts.

The recruitment tests will be held on August 13 and 14.

Talking to media persons after reviewing security arrangements for conducting the examination at BHEL area, Mr Nagireddy said that 4,000 police persons would be deputed to maintain security arrangements at the examination centres in the city.

AP Govt. will collapse at any time

Hyderabad, August 09: Stating that the people have lost confidence in the government and it might collapse at any time, Telangana Political Joint Action Committee convenor M Kodandaram on Tuesday said that even the Ministers are keeping away from all official functions and Cabinet meetings.

Girl commits suicide for not getting married

Hyderabad, August 9: Distraught by not getting married a working girl hanged herself to death. The incident occurred at Kukatpally area. 25 year old Swati, resident of Allwyn colony worked as an accountant in a private office at Gachibowli. Her marriage could not be settled for quite a long time and she was concerned regarding her marriage settlement. Resorting to extreme step she committed suicide. Police Kukatpally has registered a case and investigations are on.

Babu bets Left support in fight for crisis hit farmers

Hyderabad, August 09: Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday managed to gain the support of the Left parties in his fight to highlight the acute crisis facing the farmers in the state.

The Left parties’ leaders, including Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Prakash Karat and Communist Party of India leaders D Raja and Sudhakar Reddy separately assured Mr Naidu of working together to corner the government on the issue in Parliament.

However, the Left leaders sought Mr Naidu’s support for their opposition to the Lokpal Bill.

ABVP demonstration against corruption

Bhopal, August 09: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) workers today staged demonstrations at various places in Madhya Pradesh and courted arrest as a part of nationwide agitation against corruption issue.

About 200 ABVP activists — led by Youth Against Corruption Co-convener Vishnudatt Sharma — staged demonstration in the state capital creating a ‘chakka jam’ like situation following which they were arrested.

ABVP workers also courted arrest Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Ujjain, Rewa, Sagar and other places.

Youngster commits suicide after being scolded by parents

Hyderabad, August 9: The dead body of a boy who ran away from home after being scolded by the parents was recovered on Monday from Husain Sagar Lake. According to Ramgopalpet police, 15 year old Satish Reddy who was said to be the resident of Nellore district ran away from his home on August 2. Satish a student of 10th class was careless in his studies. This was the cause of concern for his parents and they use to scold him for that. As a consequence the boy left his home and arrived at Hyderabad. His body was found by the police at Husain Sagar Lake.

AP CM urges PM to remove controversial clause

Hyderabad, August 09: With increasing protest for Telangana state, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy Tuesday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take immediate steps for deletion of a clause from the 1975 presidential order that treats this state capital as a free zone for police recruitment.

As Telangana is set to observe shutdown Wednesday on a call given by Telangana students’ groups, Reddy spoke to Manmohan Singh over phone and emphasised the need to delete the clause.

Woman kills husband over infidelity

Sitapur, August 09: A woman allegedly killed her husband by setting him on fire while he was sleeping, police said today. She was enraged over his extra-marital affair.

The incident took place yesterday when the woman sprinkled kerosene on her husband and set him on fire while he was asleep in his house at Madarpur village in Hargaon area here, they said.

The man was rushed to a hospital in critical condition where he died today. Extra-marital affair was stated to be the motive behind the act, police said.

I am not answerable to BJP, says Dikshit

New Delhi, August 09: Slamming the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for demanding her resignation over the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on the Commonwealth Games irregularities, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Monday said she was not answerable to the party.

“What the BJP says is something that I don’t have to answer. They can go on saying something or the other but the facts are contrary to what they are saying,” Dikshit told reporters here.

“If the PAC (Public Accounts Commission) calls us for any clarifications, we are ready,” she added.

Andhra police drive reveals 40 fake degrees from Bihar

Patna, August 09: Thanks to Andhra Pradesh police’s verification drive, 40 degrees and provisional certificates issued in the name of a Bihar university have been found to be fake, officials said Tuesday.

Officials of Magadh University in Gaya were stunned to find the fake papers presented by Andhra Police for verification.

“It is a matter of serious concern that degrees and certificates issued in the name of the university were found fake,” Magadh University examination controller Sushil Kumar Singh said.

Gold rate today: Yellow metal at Rs 25540 up Rs 298 from its previous close

Mumbai, August 09: The October contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was at Rs 25,540, up Rs 298 from its previous close.

In morning benchmark gold futures extended gains by more than 3 per cent and hit a new peak of Rs 26,198 per 10 grams, tailing a rally in the world market and on a weak rupee. It has risen over 11 percent in August.

Rupee fell sharply to its lowest in 10 weeks as a selloff in global equities ignited fears of foreign fund outflows.

Rift in J&K interlocutors; Kumar upset over remarks

Jeddah, August 09: Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah demanded an end to the bloodshed in Syria on Monday and recalled his country’s ambassador from Damascus, in a rare case of one of the Arab world’s most powerful leaders intervening against another.

200 people embrace Islam in five days of Ramadan

Manama, August 09: Around 200 people embraced Islam in the first five days of Ramadan in Kuwait, a religious association has said.

“The number of foreigners who declared that they embraced Islam was 195 in the first five days of the sacred month,” Jamal Al Shatti, the head of the Committee to Promote Islam, said.

“We believe that many more people will announce their conversion before the end of the month,” he said in remarks carried by Kuwaiti daily Al Watan.

The committee is keen on looking after new Muslims and on promoting Islam through good words and deeds, he said.

DMK adopted wrong policies on power, water: AIADMK

Chennai, August 09: Charging the previous DMK regime with adopting the “wrong approach” on the power and water fronts, the ruling AIADMK on Tuesday said it accorded high priority on addressing these issues.

“The wrong approach (of the previous regime) resulted not only in power cuts but also water problems. We are reviewing and addressing the situation,” Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa informed the state Assembly.

Mumbai, August 09: Social activist Anna Hazare will flag off a torch march and a car and bike rally to garner support for the civil society’s Jan Lokpal bill in Mumbai Tuesday, an India Against Corruption official said here Monday.

“Annaji is likely to flag off a car and bike rally at 9 a.m. involving 500 cars and bikes and around 1,500 participants. However, he might not be able to make it due to his ill health. But he will surely join us later tomorrow (Tuesday),” the official said.
