Centre for limiting subsidised LPG to 4 cylinders a year

Hyderabad, August 10: If you pay income tax or own a scooter, car or a house, you will soon be limited to four subsidised gas cylinders a year, if a proposal informally approved by an empowered Group of Ministers on Monday night is finally implemented.

Seeking to address a ballooning subsidy bill, the Manmohan Singh government has decided to bite the bullet and put into action this proposal to limit the supply of subsidised LPG cylinders.

China to launch comm satellite for Pak

Beijing, August 10: China will launch a communications satellite for Pakistan at an “appropriate time”, an official said Wednesday.

A spokesman for the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China’s Sichuan province said the satellite, the PAKSAT-1R, will be carried by a Long March-3B carrier rocket.

Both the satellite and rocket are currently in good condition, Xinhua quoted the spokesperson as saying.

Telangana bandh against job test

Hyderabad, August 10: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday wrote to the Prime Minister for the deletion of Clause 14 (F) of Presidential Order of 1975 that makes Hyderabad a free zone for employment.

Telangana leaders are demanding that Hyderabad should not be a free zone where candidates from all over the state can compete for recruitment for government posts.

They have been asking for the deletion of the clause so that only candidates from Telangana can apply.

B-Tech selected candidates list released

Hyderabad, August 10: Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha on Wednesday released the list of selected candidates for counselling leading to admission to the six year integrated B Tech course under Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technology.

Releasing the list at the Secretariat, Mr Rajanarasimha said that counselling will held for 2807 seats out of 3000 seats. The remaining 193 seats are allotted to the special category like sports, NCC, physically handicapped.

Girl barred from beauty pageant for connections with drug trafficker

Bogota, August 10: A contestant was barred from the Miss Colombia beauty pageant because of her alleged ties with a Mexican drug trafficker, a media report said.

Laura Marcela Cantillo, 19, who would have represented the Caribbean resort city of Cartagena, is not registered for the contest.

Colombian media said the beauty was kept out of the pageant because a drug trafficker sponsored the 2008 Maja Colombia competition which she won.

The disappointed candidate’s family accused “malicious people” of sullying her name with no proof of any wrongdoing.

Andhra Pradesh extends ban on CPI (Maoist)

Hyderabad, August 10: The Andhra Pradesh government Tuesday extended for another year the ban on the Communist Party of India (Maoist) and six of its frontal organisations, officials said.

The government issued orders extending the ban on CPI (Maoist) and its frontal organizations under the Andhra Pradesh Public Security Act. The ban was to lapse Aug 16.

The frontal organizations of CPI (Maoist) are Radical Youth League, Rythu Coolie Sangham, Radical Students Union, Singareni Karmika Samakhya, Viplava Karmika Samakhya and All India Revolutionary Students Federation.

Mother strangles 6-year-old, commits suicide

New Delhi, August 10: A 32-year-old mentally disturbed woman allegedly strangled her six-year-old daughter and then committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling in the Surajmal Vihar area of east Delhi on Tuesday.

A police official said the deceased were identified as Sangeeta Pokhriyal and her daughter Vrinda. He said Sangeeta’s husband Hemant works as a junior engineer in a private company. He had gone to Rajasthan on a business trip when the incident took place.

US: Mother allegedly forced 6-yr-old to tape group sex

Dallas, August 10: Authorities in Texas have charged a Dallas woman with forcing her 6-year-old daughter to repeatedly videotape her having group sex.

According to police records, the 24-year-old woman is charged with indecency with a child by exposure, a third-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The woman, who was arrested on Saturday, was in jail on Tuesday on a $50,000 bond.

The name of the woman will not be disclosed because it might lead to the identification of her daughter.

PRP merger with ruling party on Aug 22

Hyderabad, August 10: The PCC Chief, Mr Botcha Satyanarayana, has said that the PRP leaders would formally take Congress membership at the Gandhi Bhavan on August 22.

The PRP leaders met Mr Botcha at the Gandhi Bhavan and discussed about the formalities of the merger.

Seemandhra Demand to keep Hyderabad free zone

Visakhapatnam, August 10: A Seemandhra JAC has called for a bandh on Thursday demanding the retention of Clause 14(F) in the Presidential Order to ensure that Hyderabad remained free zone for recruitment purposes.

It might be mentioned here that this controversial clause has been the bone of contention of the Telangana separatists, who have been agitating for its deletion. Despite the Centre yielding to the mounting pressure from the Telangana protagonists and recommended to the President of India to delete the clause, a bandh is being observed in the region.

8-yr-old kids indulge in violence

London, August 10: Meanwhile in Hackney, thugs torched four cars outside a block of flats then hurled petrol bombs at police.

Boys as young as eight ran in between broken glass and the lit cars, holding bottles in their hands ready to hurl at officers.

They acted as lookouts for the older thugs.

Police said 450 people were arrested over three nights, and 69, including an 11-year-old boy, were charged with offences.

At least 100 of those arrested were aged 21 or younger. About 35 officers were injured.

In the meeting, Modi had allegedly hinted to his officers to allow Hindus to vent their anger on the Muslims in the aftermath of the train carnage at Godhra which left 59 passengers burnt to cinders.

Two girls in lonely battle against pervert professor

Mumbai, August 10: A senior professor of a college in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district has been accused of sexually harassing 23 girl students.

Most of the victims are not pursuing charges against him because of pressure from the family and the college, but two students have refused to cower down and have demanded his removal.

Ramakant Gavde, 40, teaches accounts at Gogate Walke College in Banda, a village in Sindhudurg. Allegations of sexual harassment were levelled against him earlier this year.

ATM that eats up your cash

Mumbai, August 10: For nearly a month, the Oshiwara police station was receiving complaints from Axis Bank customers about money mysteriously disappearing from their accounts after they used the ATM which is close to a popular restaurant, and barely a shout away from the police station.

While cops were initially dismissive about the cases, things came to a head when one of their own assistant inspector Sanjay More – withdrew Rs 10,000 from the ATM and immediately received an SMS alert saying Rs 40,000 had been debited from his account.

Delhi’s top cop meets Chidambaram

New Delhi, August 10: The Delhi Police said Police Commissioner B.K. Gupta met union Home minister P. Chidambaram Wednesday but it denied reports that the two discussed Tuesday’s crackdown on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers.

“Delhi Police commissioner met home minister but it was only a routine meeting about parliament questions,” Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said.

“No law and order issues were discussed… all reports are wrong,” Bhagat said.
