Police arrested 5 members of the gang preparing fake currency of 100 and 500 rupees and seized 514000 rupees cash and material from their possession.

Hyderabad lost 60,000 jobs in 1 year

26 injured by strong earthquake in western China

Beijing, August 12: State media say 26 people have been injured and more than 30 homes damaged by a strong earthquake in western China’s Xinjiang region.

The official Xinhua News Agency says three of those injured are in critical condition.

The national earthquake monitoring centre said Thursday’s quake registered magnitude 5.8 and was centred near the city of Atux at a depth of 8 km. The U.S. Geological Service put the magnitude at 5.2 and said it struck 35 km beneath the surface.

Quake shakes Japan’s Fukushima, no tsunami alert

Tokyo, August 12: The U.S. Geological Survey reports that a strong earthquake has shaken north-eastern Japan, the same region devastated by the massive quake and tsunami in March.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage, and no tsunami warning was issued.

The U.S.G.S. reports a magnitude of 5.9 quake struck at 3.23 a.m. Friday local time off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture. The epicentre was about 11 miles (18 kilometres) east-southeast of Iwaki on Honshu Island, 114 miles (184 kilometres) northeast of Tokyo.

India asks Pakistan to release Sarabjit

New Delhi, August 12: India on Thursday asked Pakistan to take a humanitarian view and release Sarabjit Singh, an Indian national on death row following his conviction for alleged involvement in bomb attacks in that country in 1990.

External Affairs Minister SM Krishna said in the Rajya Sabha that Sarabjit Singh has been sentenced to death on September 15, 1991 on allegations that he was involved in three bomb blasts in Lahore and one in Multan.
