TDP demands CBI enquiry against KVP

Hyderabad, August 14: Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, a senior leader of Telugu Desam party had alleged that KVP Ramachandra Rao, the former advisor to the government has played an important role into the irregularities during YSR regime

Speaking to media persons in NTR Trust Bhavan on Saturday, he said that if the CBI enquiry is ordered against KVP along with Jagan, then all the facts and irregularities would come out. He said that both of them are still hand in glove. The party would welcome CBI enquiry against KVP as well.

Seemandhra leaders to move SC over 14F deletion

Hyderabad, August 14: The deletion of Clause 14F seems to have drawn new battle lines across Telangana and Seemandhra regions.

The Seemandhra leaders are now preparing to move to the Supreme Court against the deletion, which changed the status of Hyderabad to a ‘No free zone’. They are apparently upset that this would deprive the non-Telangana people of claiming any job or education rights in the State’s capital.

SCR extends trains on three major routes

Hyderabad, August 14: In order to clear extra rush of passengers due to festival season, the South Central Railway has decided to extend trains on certain major routes.

According to SCR, Train no. 08465 Bubhaneswar- Sainagar Shirdi weekly special Train (on Fridays), running via Viskhapatnam, Vijayawada, Kazipet, Secunderabad, Nizamabad and Aurangabad, is extended to run up to Manmad till 28th October, 2011. Similarly, in the return direction, Train no. 08466 Manmad-Bubhaneswar weekly special train (on Sundays) is extended to run till 30th October, 2011.

Home Guard saves woman life at Hussainsagar lake

Hyderabad, August 14: Showing a rare display of alertness and bravery, a home guard of the Hyderabad City Police saved the life of a woman who jumped into the Hussainsgar lake to commit suicide.

The incident occurred on Saturday at around 4 pm. When the Lake Mobile jeep was patrolling the Necklace road, the driver B.Sailu found a young lady who had just jumped into the Hussain Sagar Lake from the bridge near the PV Ghat. As there was no time to get the divers who were present at Lumbini Park area, Sailu, jumped after the lady.

Qutub Shahi mosque in dilapidated condition

Hyderabad, August 13: Youth having religious passion had taken over the 400 year old Qutub Shahi mosque on March 25which had been deserted since long time. Since then prayer is offered regularly in that mosque. Taraveeh prayer is also performed. The mosque is 90 percent dilapidated and only the pulpit (minbar) remains. Neither there is flooring in the mosque nor does it have roof. Though the waqf board and Municipal Corporation have given permission for construction but the Rajendarnagar police is creating obstruction.

Pak man caught raping a 13-year-old girl

Riyadh, August 13: Saudi Arabia’s religious police arrested a Pakistani man after catching him raping a screaming 13-year-old Nigerian girl inside his car under the cover of night.

Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice were on a routine night patrol in the western town of Makkah when they heard a girl screaming inside a car at a deserted area.

“When they came close to the car, they found a 33-year-old Pakistani man raping the Nigerian girl…they caught him red-handed,” Sabq newspaper said.

Chiranjeevi to take Cong membership

Hyderabad, August 13 : Actor-turned-politician K. Chiranjeevi, who has merged his Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) with the Congress, will take the membership of the ruling party Aug 20.

He told reporters here Saturday that he would formally take the membership of the Congress in New Delhi Aug 20, the birth anniversary of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will give him the membership.

The formality of PRP’s merger with the Congress would be completed Aug 22, the 56th birthday of Chiranjeevi.

Maid molested in Saudi on arrival

Riyadh, August 13: An Asian housemaid was molested by an airport cleaner just after she arrived to work in Saudi Arabia, the largest base for Asian domestic workers in the Middle East, a newspaper in the Gulf kingdom said on Saturday.

The unidentified maid went to buy a pre-paid mobile phone SIM card from a shop at the airport in the western port of Yanbu when the Bangladeshi worker started to molest her, Okaz Arabic language daily said.

“The maid screamed, prompting the airport security to arrest the worker… he was then handed over to the police,” it said.

US consumer confidence at three-decade low

New York, August 13: US consumers’ confidence in the progress of the nation’s economy and of their own financial situation plunged in August to its lowest point since May 1980 over worries about the faltering recovery, according to survey results released Friday.
The Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan’s preliminary August reading on overall consumer sentiment stands at 54.9 points, considerably lower than the 63.7 in July and also far from the expectations of analysts, who believed the index would be around 63.

US serial killer gets death penalty

London, August 13: A man who killed 11 women and dumped their remains around his house in the US state of Ohio was Friday sentenced to death, BBC reported.
Anthony Sowell, 51, was found guilty last month of aggravated murder, kidnapping and other charges in the 11 deaths.

In a court in Cleveland, US, Friday Judge Dick Ambrose read aloud the details of each murder before passing the sentence, BBC said.

Colombo, August 13: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has called out the armed forces to maintain public order using the powers vested in him by Chapter 40 of the Public Security Ordinance (PSO).

Gazette No. 1717/41 of August 6 reads: “By virtue of the powers vested in me by Section 12 of the Public Sector Ordinance (Chap 40), I, Mahinda Rajapaksa, do by this order, call out all the members of the armed forces specified in the First Schedule hereto, for the maintenance of public order in the areas specified in the Second Schedule.”
