Foul language can render fast invalid

Dubai, August 14: Using bad language while fasting diminishes its benefits, according to a new fatwa.

Fasting Muslims should avoid bad manners or risk invalidating their fast according to guidance issued by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments (GAIAE) in Abu Dhabi.

The latest release is part of a series of fatwas aimed at helping Muslims answer questions concerning fasting.

NHDC Presents Dividend Cheque To MP CM

Bhopal, August 14 (Pervez Bari): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan was presented a dividend cheque for Rs. 19.20 crore by Chief Executive Director of N.H.D.C (Narmada Hydroelectric Development Corporation) Mr. K.M Singh for the year of 2010-11 on Friday.

N.H.D.C is a joint company of N.H.P.C and the Madhya Pradesh Government. On this occasion, senior officers of the corporation were also present.

MP CM writes to Union Minister to hand over National Highways

Bhopal, August 14 (Pervez Bari): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan has written a letter to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, (MORTH), Mr. C.P Joshi urging for an early decision on handing over to the State Government the National Highways passing through Madhya Pradesh.

The Chief Minister has written in his letter that a resolution has also been passed by the State Cabinet to this effect. Photographs showing extremely poor condition of National Highways in the state have also been annexed with the letter.

College chairman raped student

Nagercoil, August 14: A college chairman has been arrested for allegedly raping an 18-year-old student of his institution here, police said.

Ashok Kumar (59), chairman of a private paramedical college, was arrested yesterday for allegedly raping the victim, a student of nursing, twice on Aug 11, police said.

According to a police complaint lodged by the victim, Kumar took her to the deserted boys hostel in the afternoon of Aug 11 and raped her. He raped her again the same day at around 9.30 pm near the girls hostel, it said.

Murder case against 5 cops

Hyderabad, August 14: Tou ghening its stand against extrajudicial killings by trigger-happy cops, the AP High Court on Friday delivered a verdict with a directive to book murder case against five police personnel, including a sub-inspector, involved in the encounter killing of a dacoit in 2010.

The court directed Nuzvid DSP K Sambaiah to register criminal cases under Section 302 of IPC against then Penamalur SI G V Vinaya Mohan, now working in I town police station in Vijayawada, and four constables.

A prominent lead actor in Hindi cinema during late 1950s and 1960s, Shammi Kapoor passed away today at 5.15 am. He was suffering from Renal Chronic failure and was admitted at Breach candy hospital, where he breathed his last. Born on October 21, 1931 in a Punjabi Khatri family, he is an Indian film actor and director.

Delhi put under tight security ahead of I-Day celebrations

New Delhi, August 14: On the eve of Independence Day celebrations, an elaborate ground-to-air security apparatus has been put in place in the capital to pre-empt any terror strike.

Thousands of Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel were deployed in and around the city, especially near the Red Fort from where Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will unfurl the tricolour and address the nation.

The Union Home Ministry has already issued a country-wide alert asking states to tighten security at sensitive locations and installations to thwart any attempt of terror strike.

US diplomat regrets her ‘dirty, dark’ comments

Stop ministers’ interference, Modi urges PM

Gandhinagar, August 14: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Saturday sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s intervention to stop “such blatant interference” from union ministers, especially Home Minister P.Chidambaram, which encourages indiscipline among some “delinquent” police officers of Gujarat cadre.

In a letter to the prime minister, Modi said this is the second time that the home minister has intervened in favour of such police officers and is thus encouraging indiscipline.

Pakistan frets over burqa bombers

Islamabad, August 14: Burqa-clad women suicide bombers in Pakistan have posed a potent threat to the country as it grapples to deal with the Taliban.

This has been vindicated by two recent attacks on the security forces that appear to have rudely awakened the authorities to the new Taliban tactic.

Thursday’s attack on a security checkpost in Peshawar by women suicide bombers was the second such attack in less than two months. The previous attack was in Bajaur June 26.

Resign again, bury differences: Gadar to T-legislators

Hyderabad, August 14: Baladeer and president of Telangana Praja Front Gadar on Saturday demanded that the legislators from Telangana regions must submit their resignations demanding creation of separate Telangana state.

Speaking at the Meet-the-Press program organized by Telangana Journalists forum at Press Club Somajiguda on Saturday, Gadar said resignations would certainly mount pressure on the Centre and it would be forced to take a clear stand on granting statehood for the region.
