Tourist rush for boating on Hussain Sagar

Hyderabad, August 16: Boating at Lumbini Park was in much demand as denizens enjoyed an extended holiday from Saturday to the Independence Day on Monday. There was a 20 percent increase in the crowd, according to officials. A total of 20,937 tourists visited the park in the weekend and officials expect the crowd to increase on Monday evening.

Anna Hazare, 40 supporters taken to magistrate

New Delhi, August 16: Detained activist Anna Hazare and 40 other supporters have been taken to the magistrate.

Describing his detention by police as the beginning of the “second freedom struggle”, Anna Hazare today asked people to participate in a “jail bharo” agitation.

“My dear countrymen, second freedom struggle has begun and now I have also been arrested. But will this movement be stopped by my arrest. No not at all. Don’t let it happen,” Hazare said soon after being detained by police.

Emaar properties scam – Many VIP’s involved

Hyderabad, August 16: C.B.I. and Enforcement Directorate are getting ready to file a charge sheet in the court against Emaar properties for allegedly deriving monitory benefits through unlawful means by selling bungalows and plots at exorbitant rates and showing less amounts in official documents.

These illegal transactions have caused a loss of Rs. 4,310 crore to the Govt. ex-chequer. The Enforcement Directorate has made a search in the office of Emaar in Hyderabad and seized certain documents.

Ahmadinejad warns US, Israel

Tehran, August 16: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Monday warned the US and Israel against even contemplating a strike against his nation.

“They want to do it, but they know our power. They know that we would give them a very decisive response,” he said in an exclusive interview with the Russia Today news channel.

“We would give them a crushing response,” he continued. “We will defend ourselves with our full capability. But I hope that will never come. There is no reason for war, why should they attack us?”

Anna Hazare and his team shifted to Tihar Jail

New Delhi, August 16: Delhi police have shifted Anna Hazare and his followers to Tihar Jail just an hour ago. On the other hand there was uproar in the Parliament over his arrest. BJP stalled the house proceedings demanding for an immediate discussion on this issue. But, the Speaker of Lok Sabha and the Chairman of Rajya Sabha have adjourned the session till 12’ clock. Again, when the house meet BJP continues its protests and the proceedings of both houses were adjourned till tomorrow.

Man commits suicide in police station

Hyderabad, August 16 (Siasat News): In a bizarre incident an accused committed suicide in a police station situated on the outskirts of the city.

According to SHO of Maheshwaram police station, said that the deceased Madar Pasha  committed suicide in the police station. Speaking to Siasat, he said that yesterday, sheikh Madar was summoned to the police station in connection with the suicide of his wife.

Kareena’s Lie Exposed

Mumbai, August 16: For months on end, we were told that a wax statue of Kareena Kapoor was being prepared for the famous Madame Tussauds in London.

She was going to be immortalised in her Chameli avatar, and her statue would be unveiled on August 15, fortuitously just a day before beau Saif Ali Khan’s 41st birthday. As it turns out, not everything is what it seems.

According to sources, the ‘Chameli’ look has not been finalised and her wax statue won’t be displayed in the famous museum, but a new branch somewhere in Blackpool, a small town in north west England.

SC stays release of Hasan Ali on bail

New Delhi, August 16: The Supreme Court today stayed the release of Pune-based stud farm owner Hasan Ali Khan, accused in money laundering cases, on bail which was granted by the Bombay High Court.

A three-judge bench headed by Justice Altamas Kabir said the effect of the Bombay High Court’s order granting bail to him shall not be operational till Thursday.

The court passed the order on a petition filed by the Enforcement Directorate challenging the high court’s order granting bail to Khan, who has been accused in various money laundering cases.

Refuses to offer bail, Kiran Bedi tweets

New Delhi, August 16: Former police officer Kiran Bedi tweeted Tuesday that she has refused to offer bail after being detained with Anna Hazare and that she may be sent to Tihar Jail.

“I have been asked to offer bail. I have refused to. It’s a matter of moments now when I may be sent into judicial custody in Tihar Jail,” Bedi tweeted.

Gandhian activist Hazare was detained Tuesday morning from outside his residence in east Delhi as he set out to launch a hunger strike in support of a strong Lokpal Bill.

Locals attack school in Moosapet

Hyderabad, August 16: Mild tension prevailed in Kukatpally area with locals attacking and damaging the furniture of a private school over a petty issue. The incident took place in Anjaneya Nagar in Moosapet.

According to locals and police, there was a proposal to lay a pipeline as there was a severe water supply problem in the locality. Munna, an office-bearer of the colony welfare association, was going around the locality to discuss the issue when a local school owner, Chinna Rao, approached Munna to discuss some other local issue.

‘Sexual harassment’ charges dropped against Indian envoy

New Delhi, August 16: A former maid of Indian Consul General in New York Prabhu Dayal, who accused him of taking ‘sexual advantage’, has dropped the “sexual harassment” charges in an ‘amended complaint’ filed in a US court here.

Santosh Bhardwaj, 45, had filed a forced labour-suit against Dayal on June 20 this year accusing him of treating her as a slave and making sexual advances.

An eyewitness told, “Priyanka and Sean looked very comfortable with each other. They were in the nightclub for nearly two-and-half hours. Their conversation was rather animated. Priyanka was spotted giggling quite often.”

Schoolgirl knocked down by RTC bus

Hyderabad, August 16: A student on her way to attend Independence Day celebrations in her school died after being knocked down by a RTC bus at Champapet on Monday morning. The girl was walking alone when the mishap took place.

M Shravya alias Sai (8) was a student of class III in the Sangam Lakshmi Bai Memorial Girls High School at Vinay Nagar Colony near IS Sadan crossroads. She was the daughter of Raju, a daily wage earner and Anitha alias Geeta, who reside at nearby Singareni Colony.

HM can’t guard his home from burglars!

Chennai, August 16: It is a burglary that has rattled none other than the Union home minister P. Chidambaram. His ancestral home at his native Kandanur village in Sivaganga district, Tamil Nadu, had been the target, this time. However, this came to light only on Monday.

The palatial house is located opposite his residence in the village, part of the Chettinadu region, about 10 km from Karaikudi town.

I should get award, says Jagan

Hyderabad, August 16: The Kadapa MP, Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, defended his investments in Bharati Cements. “How can anyone call it a scam or fraud? I don’t understand that. In fact, there are only three partners in this firm. India Cements have invested Rs90 crore, they got Rs150 crore in return, Dalmia Cements also invested almost the same and got around Rs130 to 135 crores, another Prasad invested around Rs250 crore and he got Rs500 crore in return. What is wrong in this?

Students complain of flawed allotment

Hyderabad, August 16: The Eamcet engineering counselling seat allotment list released by the officials here on Sunday evoked mixed reactions from students.

Some students complained that they were allotted seats in mid-ranked colleges in the web-based counselling though they were eligible for top colleges based on their Eamcet ranks.

However, officials said that the students will be given the option to change the colleges in the second phase of counselling, which is likely to be conducted in the first week of September.

Hyderabad, August 16: The Best Teacher Awards being presented by the state government on September 5 every year, on the occasion of Teachers Day, have been losing their significance with each passing year. Teachers are felicitated with a medal, certificate and a cash prize of Rs.3,000. Teachers consider the award an honour and recognition by the state government of their valuable service of over 20 years.

There has been a sharp decline in the number of applicants for the awards as the teachers say that submitting applications for the awards is a “cumbersome process”.

JNTU students to list details of showrooms

Hyderabad, August 16 : Architecture students of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University have taken up the task of preparing a comprehensive inventory of commercial establishments along with the size of neon and glow sign advertisement boards displayed on shops in the city.

The inventory covers counting the number of commercial establishments, taking photographs of the shops and showrooms, measuring the area, describing the nature of trade and business activity, compiling door numbers shop-wise, and also measuring the size of the advertisements.
