Mumbai, August 16: Saif Ali Khan celebrates his birthday today (August 16). The actor along with lady love Kareena Kapoor was spotted at Mumbai airport enroute to London. We guess it is going to be a quiet celebration, considering that the Kapoor khandaan is in mourning.

The ‘Chote Nawab’, as he is popularly called in B-town, shun his cool dude image and emerged in a new avatar with moustache and a ;different’ hairstyle for ‘Aarakshan’.

The film also features Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan.

New ordeal begins for gangraped nun

Nepal, August 16: The Buddhist nun, who was gangraped by robbed and gangraped by five men in a bus in eastern Nepal and suffered a controversy about having lost her right to remain a nun, is now facing a new ordeal with the district court opening her trial on Tuesday.

The young woman, whom the state has assigned a new name – Phulmaya – to protect her identity, will now have to endure a legal battle during which her attackers are claiming they had consensual sex with her.

Supreme Court stays Hasan Ali’s bail

New Delhi, August 16: The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed the Bombay High Court order granting bail to alleged money launderer and tax evader Hasan Ali Khan.

The bench headed by Justice Altamas Kabir stayed the order after Additional Solicitor General Harin Rawal made a mentioning seeking stay of the high court order of August 12.

The stay has been granted till Thursday when the court will take up the matter for hearing.

The Bombay High Court granted bail to Hasan Ali as the prosecution could not establish his offence under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Maid drops sex charges against Indian diplomat

New York, August 16: A former domestic help who accused Indian Consul General in New York Prabhu Dayal of making sexual advances, has now dropped the “sexual harassment” charges in an ‘amended complaint’ filed in a US court here.

Santosh Bhardwaj, 45, had filed a forced labour-suit against Dayal on June 20 this year accusing him of treating her as a slave and making sexual advances.

Naidu holds rally, condemns Anna’s arrest

Hyderabad, August 16: Describing the arrest of social activist Anna Hazare in New Delhi as undemocratic and unconstitutional, Telugu Desam Party N.Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday took out a rally to expresses solidarity with Anna’s anti-corruption movement.

Naidu believes CBI probe on Jagan’s assets will be fair

Hyderabad, August 17: Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday stated that he believes that the probe against the alleged illegal wealth amassed by YSR Congress president Jaganmohan Reddy by the CBI would be fair.

We won’t tolerate any violent agitations: Chandy

Thiruvanthapuram, August 16: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Monday said the government would not tolerate violent agitations frequently occurring in the state as they were gravely affecting the peaceful life of the public.
Delivering the Independence Day address at the Central Stadium here, Oommen Chandy said that no one would be allowed to take law in their hands in the name of protests.

Bikes, flowers and familiar beats to mark I-Day

Bangalore August 16: After months of rehearsals, on Independence Day, Manekshaw Parade Ground played host to a combination of song, dance and theatre programmes by children from various schools in the city. The ritual was customary on the 65th Independence Day.

The flag was hoisted at 9 am by Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda followed by his Independence Day address. The children sat patiently listening to the new goals and ambitions that the new Chief Minister has planned for the coming year.

BRT Wildlife Sanctuary plagued by parasites

Bangalore, August 16: Declared as a wildlife sanctuary in 1974 and tiger reserve in January 2011, the Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple (BRT) Wildlife Sanctuary is plagued by lantana (weed which inhibits plant growth) and various species of mistletoe (plant parasites) growing on trees which reduces the growth and kills the trees. ‘Unmanned crossings to go by 2015’

Hyderabad, August 26: To avoid accidents at unmanned level crossings, the South Central Railway has drawn up an action plan to eliminate all ULCs by 2015.

Unfurling the tricolour on the 65th Independence Day at the railway sports complex in Secunderabad on Monday, SCR additional general manager R Vijaya Mohan said as many as 198 ULCs have been removed during the last financial year and another 235 will be removed during this year.
