Hyderabad, August 17: Telangana Rashtra Samiti politburo member B Vinod Kumar on Tuesday Tuesday alleged that Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu and former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy have used their illegal wealth to water down the Telangana agitation.

Talking to media persons at Telangana Bhavan, Vinod Kumar alleged that both Naidu and YSR misused their political power and amassed illegal wealth by selling precious lands in the surroundings of Hyderabad. The same money was used to suppress the Telangana statehood agitation.

Hyderabad, August 17: A professor of Moualana Azad National Urdu University has been selected for the prestigious President of India’s Award.

Dr. Shahid Naukhez Azmi, Asst. Professor of Persian has been selected for the prestigious “Maha Rishi Badrayan Vyas Samman 2011”. This award is meant for emerging young Scholars for Sanskrit, Persian, and Arabic and Pali.

Hyderabad, August 17: The Chief Minister Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday requested the Centre to permit export of additional 15 lakh MT of rice from Andhra Pradesh to other countries through normal trade channels. He said permission to export would enable disposing off the rice held in the State and the millers would be ready to commence paddy purchases immediately for the ensuing Kharif season of 2011-12.

Visakhapatnam, August 17: In a major breakthrough, the Visakhapatnam district police was able to bust a racket involved in drug smuggling in the districts.

On a tip off that one gang was about to smuggle huge quantity of gang, the Visakhapatnam district police laid trap and arrested a gang of six people. Those arrested include three women. The arrests were made by a special police team in Bheemapatnam of Rolugunta mandal. Police have also seized 80 kgs of ganja from their possession.

Hyderabad, August 17: Governor E S L Narasimhan on Tuesday stressed the need for increasing green cover, by planting more trees, in order to maintain an ecological balance.

Talking to media persons after planting a sapling at Hyderabad Public School in Begumpet as part of `Green Hyderabad’ environment programme, Governor Narasimhan said that it was the responsibility of children to protect their environment by planting as many saplings as they could in their surroundings.

NEW DELHI,aUGUST 17: Anna Hazare has declined government’s release order. He demanded an unconditional permission from government to continue his indefinite fast at JP Park.

Earlier, Hazare and some of his close associates were arrested and prevented from going ahead with their indefinite fast demanding a “strong” Lokpal in defiance of the prohibitory orders, an action that came under attack from political parties and triggered protests by supporters across the country.

Hyderabad, August 16: State Finance Minister Mr. Anam Rama Narayana Reddy has commented that no one would want a son like the Kadapa MP and former Chief Minister Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s son Mr. Jaganmohana Reddy.

Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, he said Mr. Jagan was making improper comments as he was unable to face CBI enquiry. His statements were causing derogation to the late Chief Minister Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, Mr. Anam commented.

Washington, August 16: A 65-year-old Indian American has been sentenced to a year in federal prison and fined $10,000 for sexually abusing a woman while she slept on board a flight from Hong Kong to Newark.

Ramesh Advani, of Berkeley Heights, New Jersey was sentenced Monday in US District Court in Newark. He had previously pleaded guilty before a US District Judge to abusive sexual conduct, newjersey.com reported.

Advani will be under a five-year supervision order after his release.

Britain, August 16: Britain’s Prince Harry has split from his girlfriend, lingerie model Florence Brudenell-Bruce, after dating her for two months.

The prince has called off the relationship with Florence, known as ‘Flee’ to friends, because of his military commitments.

Hyderabad, August 16: Mild tension prevailed in Kukatpally area with locals attacking and damaging the furniture of a private school over a petty issue. The incident took place in Anjaneya Nagar in Moosapet.

According to locals and police, there was a proposal to lay a pipeline as there was a severe water supply problem in the locality. Munna, an office-bearer of the colony welfare association, was going around the locality to discuss the issue when a local school owner, Chinna Rao, approached Munna to discuss some other local issue.

Hyderabad, August 16: Telangana Rashtra Samithi floor Leader Etela Rajender on Tuesday accused the State Government and the Telugu Desam party of being indifferent towards the farmers’ problems in the Telangana region.

Talking to media persons at Assembly Media Point, Etela Rajender condemned the state government’s indiscriminate attitude in redressing farmers’ problems of region and asked why the government was not responding promptly on their problems.

Hyderabad, August 16: Former Minister T Jeevan Reddy on Tuesday stated that all ministers and officials were collectively responsible for the loss that the state exchequer has suffered in the alleged land deals that took place between Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation and Emaar Properties.

Hyderabad, August 16: As many as 245 pilgrims from 15 districts of Andhra Pradesh have been declared selected against cancellation for Haj 2011 by the Haj Committee of India. These pilgrims have been selected by automatic draw of lots.

According to AP State Haj Committee Chairman Syed Khaleeluddin Ahmed, these provisionally selected candidates will have to pay a total amount of Rs. 1,03,790 for Hyderabad embarkation point and Rs. 1,03, 416 from Banglore embarkation point. These pilgrims would be provided accommodation in Azeezia category.

Hyderabad, August 16: Hundreds of people led by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu marched in Hyderabad Tuesday to protest Anna Hazare’s arrest in Delhi while rallies and fasts began in other parts of Andhra Pradesh in support of the social activist.

Holding the national flag, Naidu led the massive rally from NTR Trust Bhavan, the TDP headquarters, to Tank Bund in the heart of the city. TDP leaders, legislators, hundreds of activists and others covered a distance of 10 km on foot.

Hyderabad, August 16: A student on her way to attend Independence Day celebrations in her school died after being knocked down by a RTC bus at Champapet on Monday morning. The girl was walking alone when the mishap took place.

M Shravya alias Sai (8) was a student of class III in the Sangam Lakshmi Bai Memorial Girls High School at Vinay Nagar Colony near IS Sadan crossroads. She was the daughter of Raju, a daily wage earner and Anitha alias Geeta, who reside at nearby Singareni Colony.

Hyderabad, August 16: Former Chief Minister Mr. K Rosaiah has received a clean chit in the Ameerpet land scam, which stood in the way of a gubernatorial position.

The Anti Corruption Bureau which heard the case has said that there was no evidence to prove that Mr. Rosaiah was involved in any irregularity in the land deal.

Panaji, August 16: Goa’s state employment agency ‘wants’ a film actress doing her PhD and computer science graduates to appear for job interviews for security guards.

Priyanka Bidaye, who has acted in two regional films and is studying for her PhD in Physical Chemistry, is one of the several dozen people who were sent call letters earlier this month for interview and physical test for the post of a security guard at the state industries department.

Washington, August 16: Scientists have unearthed more evidence to show that fatty deposits around the heart, more than the warped body mass index (BMI), promote thickening of arteries.

The BMI is height to weight ratio. If the ratio is skewed, it indicates the possibility of cardiac disease or obesity.

Plaque or fatty deposits cause thickening of the artery wall on one side. The lopsided thickening is referred to as plaque eccentricity and strongly indicates heart disease.

Washington, August 16: New al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri has urged Muslims around the world to continue to target the United States and avenge the killing of his predecessor Osama bin Laden.

In a 12-minute video released three weeks before the tenth 9/11 anniversary, Zawahiri urges “Muslim brothers everywhere” to pursue America.

“America today is staggering. Hunt her down wherever you may encounter her. Hunt her down to cut what is left of her corruption”s tail,” ABC News quoted Zawahiri, as saying in the video.

New Delhi, August 16: Controversial yoga guru Ramdev, who along with his supporters faced police crackdown during their agitation at Ramlila Maidan on June 4, wrote to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on Monday, asking him to exercise “self restraint” and ensure that similar action was not taken against Anna Hazare and his team.

And by some strange coincidence his death came on a day (Aug 14) which is only two days away from Aug 16, the death anniversary of Presley.
