Hyderabad, August 17: Telangana Rashtra Samiti politburo member B Vinod Kumar on Tuesday Tuesday alleged that Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu and former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy have used their illegal wealth to water down the Telangana agitation.

Talking to media persons at Telangana Bhavan, Vinod Kumar alleged that both Naidu and YSR misused their political power and amassed illegal wealth by selling precious lands in the surroundings of Hyderabad. The same money was used to suppress the Telangana statehood agitation.

CM seek centre’s nod to export 15 lakh MT of rice

Hyderabad, August 17: The Chief Minister Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday requested the Centre to permit export of additional 15 lakh MT of rice from Andhra Pradesh to other countries through normal trade channels. He said permission to export would enable disposing off the rice held in the State and the millers would be ready to commence paddy purchases immediately for the ensuing Kharif season of 2011-12.

Six of ganja smuggling gang held, 80 kgs ganja seized

Visakhapatnam, August 17: In a major breakthrough, the Visakhapatnam district police was able to bust a racket involved in drug smuggling in the districts.

On a tip off that one gang was about to smuggle huge quantity of gang, the Visakhapatnam district police laid trap and arrested a gang of six people. Those arrested include three women. The arrests were made by a special police team in Bheemapatnam of Rolugunta mandal. Police have also seized 80 kgs of ganja from their possession.

Governor asks children to increase green cover

Hyderabad, August 17: Governor E S L Narasimhan on Tuesday stressed the need for increasing green cover, by planting more trees, in order to maintain an ecological balance.

Talking to media persons after planting a sapling at Hyderabad Public School in Begumpet as part of `Green Hyderabad’ environment programme, Governor Narasimhan said that it was the responsibility of children to protect their environment by planting as many saplings as they could in their surroundings.

No one wants a son like Jagan: Anam

Hyderabad, August 16: State Finance Minister Mr. Anam Rama Narayana Reddy has commented that no one would want a son like the Kadapa MP and former Chief Minister Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s son Mr. Jaganmohana Reddy.

Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, he said Mr. Jagan was making improper comments as he was unable to face CBI enquiry. His statements were causing derogation to the late Chief Minister Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, Mr. Anam commented.

Indian American jailed for sexual abuse on plane

Washington, August 16: A 65-year-old Indian American has been sentenced to a year in federal prison and fined $10,000 for sexually abusing a woman while she slept on board a flight from Hong Kong to Newark.

Ramesh Advani, of Berkeley Heights, New Jersey was sentenced Monday in US District Court in Newark. He had previously pleaded guilty before a US District Judge to abusive sexual conduct, newjersey.com reported.

Advani will be under a five-year supervision order after his release.

Locals attack school in Moosapet

Hyderabad, August 16: Mild tension prevailed in Kukatpally area with locals attacking and damaging the furniture of a private school over a petty issue. The incident took place in Anjaneya Nagar in Moosapet.

According to locals and police, there was a proposal to lay a pipeline as there was a severe water supply problem in the locality. Munna, an office-bearer of the colony welfare association, was going around the locality to discuss the issue when a local school owner, Chinna Rao, approached Munna to discuss some other local issue.

Another 245 intending pilgrims selected for Hajj 2011

Hyderabad, August 16: As many as 245 pilgrims from 15 districts of Andhra Pradesh have been declared selected against cancellation for Haj 2011 by the Haj Committee of India. These pilgrims have been selected by automatic draw of lots.

According to AP State Haj Committee Chairman Syed Khaleeluddin Ahmed, these provisionally selected candidates will have to pay a total amount of Rs. 1,03,790 for Hyderabad embarkation point and Rs. 1,03, 416 from Banglore embarkation point. These pilgrims would be provided accommodation in Azeezia category.

Hundreds march in Hyderabad for Anna Hazare

Hyderabad, August 16: Hundreds of people led by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu marched in Hyderabad Tuesday to protest Anna Hazare’s arrest in Delhi while rallies and fasts began in other parts of Andhra Pradesh in support of the social activist.

Holding the national flag, Naidu led the massive rally from NTR Trust Bhavan, the TDP headquarters, to Tank Bund in the heart of the city. TDP leaders, legislators, hundreds of activists and others covered a distance of 10 km on foot.

Schoolgirl knocked down by RTC bus

Hyderabad, August 16: A student on her way to attend Independence Day celebrations in her school died after being knocked down by a RTC bus at Champapet on Monday morning. The girl was walking alone when the mishap took place.

M Shravya alias Sai (8) was a student of class III in the Sangam Lakshmi Bai Memorial Girls High School at Vinay Nagar Colony near IS Sadan crossroads. She was the daughter of Raju, a daily wage earner and Anitha alias Geeta, who reside at nearby Singareni Colony.

Fat around heart promotes cardiac disease

Washington, August 16: Scientists have unearthed more evidence to show that fatty deposits around the heart, more than the warped body mass index (BMI), promote thickening of arteries.

The BMI is height to weight ratio. If the ratio is skewed, it indicates the possibility of cardiac disease or obesity.

Plaque or fatty deposits cause thickening of the artery wall on one side. The lopsided thickening is referred to as plaque eccentricity and strongly indicates heart disease.
