Anna free to go anywhere: Home Secretary

New Delhi, August 17: Union Home Secretary R K Singh today said Gandhian activist Anna Hazare is free to go anywhere as he was released from Tihar Jail last night.

“Anna Hazare was released from Tihar Jail last night, so he is free to go anywhere,” Mr Singh told reporters here.

Asked if he is allowed to stage his agitation in J P Park as proposed, Mr Singh said it is for the Delhi Police to decide.

Anna is refusing to leave Tihar Jail even after being released from there and is continuing his agitation for a strong Lokpal Bill.

President’s Award to Dr. Shahid Naukhez Azmi (MANUU)

Hyderabad, August 17: Dr. Shahid Naukhez Azmi, Asst. Professor Persian, Maulana Azad National Urdu University has been selected for the prestigious President of India’s “Maha Rishi Badrayan Vyas Samman 2011”. This award is meant for emerging young Scholars for Sanskrit, Persian, Arabi & Pali. According to a press release from Press Information Bureau, the distinction is conferred once a year on the Independence Day in recognition of substantial contribution in the field of Sanskrit, Pali/Prakrit, Arabic and Persian. Dr. Shahid Naukhez Azmi is author of a dozen literary books.

Pak woman beats domestic help to death for not feeding her dog

Lahore, August 17: A Pakistani woman clubbed to death her 12-year-old domestic help for not serving a meal to her dog in Lahore.

Sadia Asif, a resident of Valencia Town, beat Taqi Usman to death after he failed to serve food to her pet. She had asked Usman to feed the dog before going to market a few days ago, an investigator said.

Qatar airways, Indian embassy served notices on woman’s death

Jeddah, August 17: Andhra Pradesh high court served notices to External affairs ministry and overseas Indian affairs besides Indian Embassy at Masqat and Qatar airway on the suspicious death of a woman belonging to Andhra Pradesh. Mrs. Lamoda Bibi belonged to Peddamandal of Chittoor district she died at Masqat international airport in October last year. Lamoda Bibi had arrived Oman to work as a domestic servant. The sponsor sent her to India through the flight of Qatar airways. The woman lost her passport either at the airport or in the flight.

Hyderabad, August 17: State Finance Minister Mr. Anam Rama Narayana Reddy has commented that no one would want a son like the Kadapa MP and former Chief Minister Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s son Mr. Jaganmohana Reddy.

Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, he said Mr. Jagan was making improper comments as he was unable to face CBI enquiry. His statements were causing derogation to the late Chief Minister Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, Mr. Anam commented.

Hyderabadi resident dies in road accident at Jeddah

Jeddah, August 17: A non resident Indian belonging to Chandrayangutta area of Hyderabad city died in a road accident at Tabela Business Street of Jeddah. The accident occurred on 10th of Ramadan. The burial took place at the local graveyard. According to sources the deceased Mohammad Haneef who was working as Dental technician at King Abdul Aziz University Hospital Jeddah was waiting for a taxi on his return. As he could not get taxi for long he tried to cross the road in order to go on the other side of the road when a speedy Toyota car hit him. He died on the spot.

Anna supporters throng outside Tihar

New Delhi, August 17: After a night of candlelight vigil and sloganeering, thousands of people gathered outside the Tihar Jail here to support activist Anna Hazare who has declined to move out of the prison until his demands are met.

“The message is loud and clear – the citizens of this country are proving that the country is independent. This is the message from the movement,” said social activist Medha Patkar.

Former police officer Kiran Bedi also addressed the people outside the jail.

Government officials, students, commuters and bystanders — every one was supporting Hazare.

Haram expansion to accommodate 1.2m more worshippers

Jeddah, August 17: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah will lay the foundation stone for a new expansion of the Grand Mosque in Makkah on Friday, it was announced on Tuesday.

The new project, covering 400,000 square meters, will create prayer space for an additional 1.2 million worshippers.

Admissions in tech colleges hit

Hyderabad, August 17: As many as 256 private engineering colleges across the state have plunged into crisis by recording less than 100 admissions in the recent Eamcet counselling.

While five colleges failed to get even a single student and had zero admissions, about 44 colleges had single-digit admissions with less than 10 seats.

Similarly, 96 colleges had only between 11 and 50 seats filled. A whopping 116 colleges had only 51-100 seats taken up.

Florida, August 17: Mohamed Al-Darsani finds a little humor in the strange twist that brings a man best-known for his anti-Islamic sentiments into his own backyard.

Imam of the Islamic Center for Peace, in Fort Myers, Al-Darsani says it is hard to forget Pastor Terry Jones and the scathing attacks he launched last year on the Islamic faith.

Jones gained notoriety last year when he threatened to burn the Quran on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

“People like Terry Jones are misinformed, and I don’t think they know the real Islam,” Al-Darsani says.

Over 1,000 women apply for 20 IT jobs in Saudia

Riyadh, August 17: More than 1,000 women have applied for 20 vacancies in Saudi Arabian Airlines’ IT department in a single day when the company started receiving applications on Monday.

An official from the company expected a huge number of women to apply for the limited number of jobs until the application deadline on Aug. 24.

History-sheeter nabbed

Hyderabad, August 17: Police nabbed a notorious history-sheeter on Tuesday and recovered a sword from him. Syed Osman is the history-sheeter of Habeebnagar police and is a member of Khaiser gang.He was involved in the killing of Fazal, another history-sheeter of Punjagutta police at AC Guards. Fazal was an associate of gangster Ayub Khan who were Khaiser gang’s rivals.

Police said Osman had a spat with one of his neighbours, Salar, a couple of days ago. Salar and his wife had abused Osman and later, lodged a complaint against him with the Habeebnagar police.

YSR helicopter crash an accident: Cabinet

Hyderabad, August 17: Concluding that the helicopter crash that caused the death of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy was an accident, the state cabinet on Tuesday recommended action against the then managing director of AP Aviation Corporation KV Brahmananda Reddy and quality control manager Lakshman Rao.

It was decided to constitute a three-member committee to submit a report within 30 days recommending suitable action against these erring officials.

GHMC hikes property tax by 5%

Hyderabad, August 17: House owners of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have to pay five percent additional property tax from the next financial year. The GHMC standing committee which met here on Tuesday has approved the proposal to levy additional five percent tax from the next financial year.
