Subversion of parliament shouldn’t be allowed: Lalu

New Delhi, August 17: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Wednesday appealed to MPs not to allow subversion of parliament as it will ring the deathknell of democracy in the country.

In his inimitable style, he also made a passionate plea to the Lok Sabha members to ensure that the “supremacy of parliament” is upheld as far as law-making is concerned.

Woman stabs husband for forgetting her birthday

Moscow, August 17: In a bizarre incident, a woman here stabbed her husband to death just because he forgot her birthday and returned home from work empty-handed, it was reported here.

Lyalya Tupikova, 45, said that her husband Khalpik didn’t remember her birthday.

When he returned home from office in Astrahan in southern Russia, she expected a bunch of flowers and a present. But, Khalpik got nothing for her.

She had cooked a candlelight dinner for two, said the Daily Mail.

NCM slow on attending to minorities complaints

Hyderabad, August 17: Despite the presence of multiple agencies looking after the welfare of minorities in the country, there are hundreds of minorities whose complaints remain unanswered.

In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, the Minister of State for Minority Affairs Vincent H. Pala, informed the House that the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) received 2,268 complaints during 2009-10 and during 2010-11 the number was 2,378. However, he did not specify how many of those complaints have been addressed.

Hyderabad, August 17: Communist Party of India state general secretary K Narayana on Wednesday asked as to why YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has approached the Supreme Court seeking stay against the CBI probe against his alleged illegal assets. He said Jagan’s efforts to stall the probe are an admission that he amassed wealth illegally.

Talking to media persons after participating in a dharna at Himayath nagar, K Narayana said there was no need to file a petition seeking stay on CBI probe if Jagan has not committed any mistake.

Floods render 1,500 people homeless in Meghalaya

Shillong, August 17: Over 1,500 people were rendered homeless in western parts of Meghalaya as some villages were submerged Wednesday under rising flood waters following incessant rains, officials said. No loss of life was reported.

All major rivers in West Garo Hills district were flowing above the danger mark with flood waters entering many low-lying areas and affecting thousands of people, an official said.

245 orphans perform Umrah

While performing “You Belong With Me,” the 21-year-old Grammy winner’s blue dress blew up in the middle of the song, revealing her nude innerwear however, Swift quickly swatted down her skirt and continued on with her lyrics, reports usmagazine.com.

Washington, August 17: Despite knowing the fact that the Pakistan have links with terrorist groups including LeT, the US have no choice but to maintain ‘close relations’ with the country, US officials have admitted.

Pakistan has ‘relationships’ with the Haqqani network – militants based in western Pakistan who conducts cross-border attacks on US forces in Afghanistan, and with LeT, both listed by the US as terrorist organizations, Defence Secretary Leon Panetta said Tuesday.
