Custodial killing: Shutdown in Sopore, Baramulla

Srinagar, August 02: A spontaneous shutdown was observed in North Kashmir’s apple town Sopore and other areas of Baramulla district against the alleged custodial killing of 25-year-old Nazim Rashid Shalla alias Anjum.

The Hurriyat conference (G), Syed Ali Shah Geelani, has called for a statewide shutdown on Wednesday against the incident which he termed “a grave human rights violation committed by police.”

Delhi police summons Harish Rao and others

Hyderabad, August 02: Delhi Police have summoned TRS leaders Harish Rao, Vinod, Eetela Rajendar and others who were involved in the attack on AP Bhavan’s Dy.Resident Commissioner Chandar Rao few days back.

However, TRS leaders states that they can’t be booked under atrocities case and Chandar rao has no right to lodge complaint against them. They told the media that, Delhi Police should first investigate the case before asking them to appear before them.

No licence to any Indian TV Channel in Pak

Islamabad, August 02: The Pakistan information ministry has clarified that no licence has been given to any Indian TV channel or Indian content channels to broadcast in country.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan Monday informed the National Assembly said the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has not issued any license to Indian or Indian content channels.

At present, 23 private entertainment satellite TV channels are telecasting Indian programmes, Associated Press of Pakistan quoted her as saying.

Hyderabad, August 2 (Siasat News): The entire city of Hyderabad was sensationalized one year back when an unclaimed suitcase was found near Mehdipatnam bus stand carrying the decomposed dead body of a woman.

Police is yet to resolve the case. The tall claims of police proved futile, as no further development has taken place. Though six teams were constituted for the identification of the deceased.

Bloodshedding continues as the holy month of Ramadan begins

Damascus, August 02: Despite growing world commendation, the Syrian forces launced a series of attacks to crush the four-month old rebellion against President Bashar Assad’s authoritarian rule in the city of Hama and made the first day of holy Ramadan month, the bloodiest day in the history of the country.

Syrian security forces have fired shells in the city of Hama, as prayers ended on the first day of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Rights groups say around 130 people have been killed by the authorities since Sunday, most of them in Hama.

Man suspects wife of infidelity, cuts her nose

New Delhi, August 02: e A man in a Chhattisgarh village on Monday chopped off his wife’s nose suspecting her of infidelity.

The police said Manmohan Gurjar (42), a resident of Kotghara village in Bilashpur district, was upset with his wife Seema (35) for frequenting her mother’s place and charged her of having extra-marital affairs. The couple entered into an altercation over the issue after Seema returned to her husband in the morning after a long stay in her mother’s house.

In a fit of anger, Manmohan picked up a kitchen knife and cut off her nose.

Kiran Kumar Reddy refuses to pass free zone resolution

Hyderabad, August 02: The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, on Monday rejected the suggestion of the Union home minister, P. Chidambaram, regarding passing a unanimous resolution once again in the AP Assembly for deletion of the 14(f) clause from Presidential Orders, 1975 which treats Hyderabad as a ‘Free Zone’ for police recruitment.

The Assembly had already passed a resolution last year for the deletion of the clause, which allows candidates from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions to be recruited for police jobs in Hyderabad.

2G trick to divert Hindu terror: PC

New Delhi, August 02: Home minister P. Chidambaram on Monday said BJP had stepped up its attacks on him in the 2G scam in conjunction with the pace of investigations in the right- wing terror cases.

Chidambaram also suggested that many BJP leaders had told him in private that they didn’t believe in the charges that the Opposition party was otherwise levelling against him in the 2G case.

Jakarta, Aug 02: An Indonesian Muslim woman stopped her wedding after she found out her future husband was a woman.

She learned about her partner’s gender when her family gathered to read the Koran at the ceremony in western Java.

The groom did not bring relatives and suspicions were raised when “Rio” failed to show documents, China Daily reported quoting the Jakarta Globe newspaper.

Her ex-boyfriend saved the blushes after he stepped in to marry her.

Couple held for indecent acts on public beach

Dubai, August 02: Dubai Misdemeanors Court heard charges of public intimacy and consensual sex out of wedlock against a Lebanese waiter and a Filipina salesgirl.

The unmarried couple was caught red-handed by Dubai Police patrol kissing and having sex at a secluded spot on the Umm Suqiem’s public beach, Gulf News reported.

Prosecutors have charged the two with having sex out of wedlock and public indecency, however, the presiding judge Abdul Majid Al Nazmy adjourned the case until August 18 as both the accused didn’t the hearing.

Jeddah, August 02: Minister of Culture and Information Abdul Aziz Khoja has announced the launch of the broadcast of Holy Qur’an and Sunnah channels on YouTube for the month of Ramadan.

In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency, Khoja said his ministry was keen to broadcast the channels on YouTube so that a maximum number of Muslims all over the world could view them.

Mumbai, August 02: Actress Hema Malini is certain that Karishma Kapoor, who is said to be reprising her role in the remake of her 1982 film `Satte Pe Satta`, would be able to justify her character.
 
“Karishma is a fantastic actor. She would definitely portray the character well in the remake of the film,” Hema told reporters after the “Scintillating Jewellery” show on the second day of India International Jewellery Week (IIJW) here , where she was the showstopper.
