Muslim Bride discovers groom is a woman

Jakarta, August 02: An Indonesian Muslim woman stopped her wedding after she found out her future husband was a woman.

She learned about her partner’s gender when her family gathered to read the Koran at the ceremony in western Java.

The groom did not bring relatives and suspicions were raised when “Rio” failed to show documents, China Daily reported quoting the Jakarta Globe newspaper.

Her ex-boyfriend saved the blushes after he stepped in to marry her.

Shoaib goes one up on Sania at tennis

Hyderabad, August 02: Out of favour Pakistani cricketer, Shoaib Malik, has taken to playing tennis and is elated at beating his star wife, Sania Mirza, on a mini court.

“I play tennis with Sania twice a week. I beat her at a mini court recently,” Malik said during a recent interaction at Lahore airport.

Malik, who developed interest in the game after his marriage to the Indian tennis ace, is now aiming to beat her on a standard court.

“I now want to win a game on a full-sized court,” the former Pakistan captain said.

Aadhaar card registrations down by 60%

Hyderabad, August 02: Aadhaar cards registration rate has decreased by 60 per cent after officials recently announced the Aadhaar number is not mandatory for booking LPG refills, getting rations or availing government schemes.

In Hyderabad district, about 39,000 people used to register their names on an average everyday. But on Monday, just 15,000 people registered their names after officials announced it is a volunteer programme, said Aadhaar in-charge and assistant supply officer MS Seshagiri Rao.

Tatas paid Rs 20 crore to Raja

New Delhi, August 02: A day after dragging Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s name into the 2G spectrum scam, Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa has made startling new allegations against the Tata Group and Videocon Group’s Venugopal Dhoot.

Balwa on Tuesday accused the Tatas of paying former telecom minister and 2G scam-accused A Raja Rs 20 crore in the name of charity.

According to Balwa Tatas made the donation of Rs 20 crore to Raja in the name of charity to a medical college-cum-hospital in Perambalur and acknowledged it was done on a special case.

Principal shoots girl for resisting sexual assault

Islamabad, August 02: Teachers are given place next to God. But a Principal here brought shame to his profession when he shot dead a female student after she resisted his attempt to sexually assault her, police said.

The 22-year-old student was studying in a computer training institute whose principal tried to molest him in Pakistan’s Punjab province. Her body was found in an under-construction house in Taxila city.

The institute’s principal has been arrested, the daily Dawn reported Tuesday.

Makkah adhan can be heard 7km away

Makkah, August 02: The sound of adhan (call to prayer) from the Grand Mosque of Makkah can be heard as far as seven kilometres – thanks to the loudspeaker installed at the top of the 76-storey Makkh Royal Clock Tower Hotel.

The tower – whichi is 601 metres high and houses 858 suites – will also emit 16 light beams to a height of 10 kilometres and can be seen from a distance of 30 kilometres, according to an Arab News report.

The beams will be turned on during adhan (call to prayer) time so that people who have hearing difficulties can know the prayer times.

Italian woman gangraped in Kuwait

Kuwait City, August 02: An Italian woman in Kuwait made a grave mistake when she accepted a lift by two seemingly gentlemen after her car failed to start. Instead of dropping her at home, they took her to an apartment and raped her.

The unnamed woman told police she accepted the lift after the two tried to repair her vehicle and politely offered to take her home in their “luxury” car.

In the car, their behavior suddenly changed as they threatened to kill her if she screams and took her to an apartment, where they took turns in raping her.

TET key to be released on August 5

Hyderabad, August 2: The primary key for Teachers Eligibility Test TET conducted on July 31 is most likely to be released on August 5. According to the Director Education sources the final key will be released on August 12. He told that the TET was peacefully conducted on Sunday across the state. 324434 applications were submitted for paper I of which 296660 candidates appeared for the exam. While for paper II, 343698 applications were submitted of which 326125 candidates appeared.

Mumbai, August 02: Is the Maharashtra government dillydallying on ordering a CBI inquiry into the issue of the alleged illegal sale of Waqf land to industrialist Mukesh Ambani for his 27- storey ultra luxury home that is worth nearly $ 2 billion? Hyderabad, August 02: An engineering student was found dead under suspicious circumstances at Isnapur village near here on Monday. According to information reaching here, Lakshman, a fourth year EEE engineering student of TRR College, was found dead under mysterious circumstances near Hyderabad Lamps factory at Isnapur in the early hours of Monday.

Lakshman, a resident of Isnapur village, went out of the house on Sunday afternoon at around 12 noon but did not return till late in the night.

Transfer of 20 IAS officers
