Steps to promote organic products in five villages

Hyderabad, August 03: Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry is working on project to develop five villages for producing organic products. Cultivation will be done for three years and then they will be given the status of organic villages. The Industry Chamber presented a research product for agri export Zones. Through this scheme such products will be produced in which India is self-sufficient and can compete with other countries. Mr. D.S. Rawat Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce said that due to chemical residue our products are not acceptable in foreign countries.

Strike disrupts normal life in Manipur

Imphal, August 03 : Normal life was disrupted here Wednesday in response to a 12-hour strike called by the All Manipur Students’Union (AMSU) to protest the bomb blast on the outskirts of the state capital in Imphal West district.

Official sources said all transport services between Manipur and rest of neighbouring states were cancelled because of the strike which began at 5 am.

The strike exempted media and essential services like medical and water supply.

MANUU ITI counseling

Fatwa allows fasting men to use nicotine patches

Dubai, August 03: A special fatwa issued by a religious body here has permitted smokers to use of nicotine patches during the month of Ramadan to deal with withdrawal symptoms, saying it does not violate the observance of fasting.

The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) here issues list of fatwas daily to help Muslims observe their fast in the right manner during Ramadan.

“Nicotine patches, which can help smokers to deal with their withdrawal symptoms during the day, are permitted,” the fatwa said.

Snakes bites constable

Hyderabad, August 3: Krishna Raju a constable from Nalgonda, who was undergoing training at Jankampet police training camp, was bit by a snake. He was shifted to Nizamabad government hospital where his condition further deteriorated hence he has been sent to Hyderabad for treatment.

Konda Bapuji forms new TJAC to sideline KCR

Hyderabad, August 03: Frustrated by the unilateral decisions being taken by Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao, prominent socialist politician, who fought for freedom during Nizam’s period Konda Lakshman Bapuji on Tuesday announced the formation of a new ‘Telangana Joint Action Committee.’

This new TJAC will fight for the cause of Telangana statehood, while taking the views of all separate statehood protagonists, according to its founder Konda Lakshman Bapuji.

Taliban suicide bomber kills 4 in Afghanistan

Kabul, August 03: A suicide bomber blew up his car outside a compound frequented by foreigners in northern Afghanistan on Tuesday, killing four guards, as two other militants stormed the building and battled Afghan police.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the assault in Kunduz city, the latest in a rising number of attacks in northern Afghanistan.

The blast damaged several buildings nearby, and flames could be seen shooting up an exterior wall. Shattered glass and a severed leg lay on the ground, while other body parts had been collected and tied up in a blanket.

Parliament set for debate on price rise

New Delhi, August 03: The Parliament is all set for a heated debate on price rise on Wednesday after the government finally agreed to a debate which entails voting. The Parliament has been stalled by the Opposition for two consecutive days.

For two straight days, there was no business in Parliament. Worried that the longstanding list of legislative business might suffer, the government has finally given in. It has agreed to a discussion on price rise under rule 184 which allows voting.

Activist Teesta Setalvad gets anticipatory bail

Ahmedabad, August 03: Social activist Teesta Setalvad of the Citizens for Justice and Peace was Tuesday granted anticipatory bail by a court here in a criminal case filed against her by a former aide Rais Khan, a lawyer said.

Additional Sessions Judge S.B. Gajera granted her plea for anticipatory bail with the condition that in the eventuality of facing arrest she may deposit Rs.25,000 and avail the bail, said S.M. Vohra, her lawyer.

Setalvad filed the application over Khan’s allegation that she had fabricated evidence in connection with the 2002 Gujarat riots.

Thieves strike at Secretariat again, computer with valuable data stolen

Hyderabad, August 03: Within a span of 25 days a second theft occurred in the Secretariat.

This time another computer from the Finance Department was stolen here on Sunday.

Despite high security around and main gates also well guarded including the D Block entrance, the burglars seem to have had a free run in carrying away another computer which had valuable data stored in it.

The police is said to have raised their hands and have doing nothing in the matter.

At least 22 people died during clinical trials of drugs

New Delhi, August 03: At least 22 people lost their lives last year during clinical trials for drugs and cosmetics in the country, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Tuesday.

“As per information made available by the sponsors/Clinical Research Organisations, compensation has been paid in 22 cases of trial related deaths which occurred in 2010,” Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said in reply to a written question on the matter.

90 pc seats reserved for locals in sports academies in MP; 8 New academies to be opened

Bhopal, August 03 (Pervez Bari): To give fillip to sports in Madhya Pradesh 90 per cent seats will be reserved for state players in the academies run by the Bharatiya Janata Party ruled State Government.

Instructions to this effect was given by the state Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan here on Monday while reviewing the progress of the State’s Sports and Youth Welfare Department.

Chiranjeevi to formally to join Congress on Aug 7

Nine travellers lynched to death near Bangalore

Bangalore, August 03: In two separate horrific incidents in Karnataka, nine travellers from India’s tech capital of Bangalore were lynched to death by villagers who were suspicious of their movements.

In the first case, eight people were thrashed by villagers on their visit to Errakote, which is 10 kms from Chintamani taluk in Chikaballapur. The villagers apparently grew suspicious of the visitors’ movements and beat them up.

Six of the eight travellers died and two others are undergoing treatment at Bangalore’s Nimhans hospital.

Varanasi, August 03: Minor girls being sold for sex trafficking in the holy city of Varanasi, but Ajeet Singh decided to take on the police-pimp nexus. Girls, as young as 10 years of age, are bought and sold.

“Right from the moment a girl is trafficked and brought into a red light area, the rate is fixed. For every new girl they will get Rs 1 lakh to 50000 and we let it pass by. My biggest question is how do we let it pass by? We have to be a questioning society,” Ajeet said.

Mumbai, August 03: It seems Sonam Kapoor is aiming for size zero. The already slim actress has now joined Bikram Yoga classes, where she is expected to sweat it out and burn oodles of calories.

“Starting bikram yoga today or as everyone calls it hot yoga. It’s my dads secret for looking fab. (sic), ” Sonam posted on her Twitter page.
