Kareena to do a ‘Lara Croft’ in ‘Ra.One’

Mumbai, August 03: Okay, we know that Shah Rukh Khan will launch the Ra.One game a month before the film releases in October.

However, it has been recently learnt that one chapter of the game focuses on Kareena Kapoor, who’s also doing extensive Lara Croft kind of stuntbaazi in it.

Though it’s another thing that she has only a couple of hand-to-hand combat scenes in the movie.

Besides, the game programmers are also working on incorporating her Chhamak Chhalo song in it.

Telangana JAC to intensify Telangana stir from August 8

British tourist make anti-Muslim remarks, fined

Dubai, August 03: A British tourist, who cursed a vendor by calling him, the Muslims of Pakistan and Prophet Mohammad [PBUH] unfriendly, has been fined Dh5,000. The Dubai Court of Appeal yesterday convicted the 40-year-old Briton, A.G., for the offences.

“The court has upheld the primary judgment [Dh5,000 fine] and rejected the defendant’s appeal,” said Presiding Judge Rashid Al Sumairi upon pronouncing yesterday’s judgment in courtroom 22.

According to the charge sheet, Prosecutor Hassan Ali accused A.G. of cursing and insulting 21-year-old H.H.

Vegetables and fruits in Jeddah costlier by 30-50%

Jeddah, August 03: The price of vegetables and fruit rose by 30 to 50 percent at the Vegetable and Fruit Market in Jeddah, Monday. Potatoes and tomatoes showed the biggest price hike.

A Hail-produced potato sack rose to SR22 to SR23 from its pre-Ramadan price of SR11 to SR12. The price of tomatoes increased 20 percent.

The prices of popular vegetables followed suit. Parsley, dill and coriander rose from SR3 to between SR6 and SR7.

Separatist shutdown hits life across Kashmir

Srinagar, August 03: Life in Jammu and Kashmir in the capital here and in other towns of the valley was severely affected Wednesday by a shutdown called by separatists to protest the custodial death of a youth.

Hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani, who heads the breakaway Hurriyat group, and Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, chairman of the moderate Hurriyat group, called for a valley-wide shutdown to attract international attention towards the death of Zamin Rashid alias Anjum, 26, in police custody, July 31 in Sopore town of north Kashmir.

Bomb sent in package to Bosnian court

Belgrade, August 03: A hand grenade was detected in a package sent through regular mail to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo, a media report said.

The grenade was discovered when the package was passed through the court’s scanner. It was addressed to the “President of the Court”, media reported citing Bosnian news agency Fena.

Sarajevo police officials conducting a forensic analysis said the package originated from the central Bosnian town of Zepce and finger prints on the package had been identified. They did not release further details

Italy approves draft law to ban burqa

Rome, August 03: An Italian parliamentary commission on Tuesday approved a draft law banning women from wearing veils that cover their faces in public.

The draft, passed by the constitutional affairs commission, would prohibit women from wearing a burqa, naqab or any other garb that covers the face in such circumstances. It would expand a decades-old law that for security reasons prohibits people from wearing face-covering items such as masks in public places.

Homeless man jumps White House fence

Washington, August 03: A homeless man was in custody on Tuesday night after climbing over the White House fence.

The man was immediately captured by uniformed Secret Service agents, who guard the complex round the clock, said agency spokesman Ed Donovan. He had a backpack that Donovan said was being examined for possible explosive material.

Donovan said the man, James Dirk Crudup, 41, was being transferred to District of Columbia police for processing. He faces charges of unlawful entry and contempt of court for violating an order to stay away from the White House, Donovan said.

Hurriyat strike hits life in Kashmir

Srinagar, August 03: Normal life in Kashmir Valley was disrupted on Wednesday due to a strike call given by hardline Hurriyat Conference Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani to protest against the custodial death of a youth in Sopore town.

Schools, shops, business establishments, private offices and banks remained closed in most pasts of the Valley due to the strike, officials said.

Sopore and other adjoining areas observed a complete shutdown as roads wore a deserted look in the apple town, 55 km from here.

Order on bail of Raju reserved

Hyderabad, August 03: A trial court hearing the Satyam scam on Tuesday reserved till August 4 its order on the bail pleas of prime accused B Ramalinga Raju and seven other accused.

After hearing arguments and counter arguments from the CBI and defence over the last two days, the XXI Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court reserved its order.

CBI counsel K Surender who opposed the bail pleas of the Satyam accused said there was no change in circumstances and hence bail was not necessary.

Rules relaxed for admission in private schools of poor kids under RTE Act in MP

Bhopal, August 03 (Pervez Bari): As many as 1.41 lakh children of weaker sections against the total vacancy of 1,70,987 lakh seats have been admitted in different private schools in Madhya Pradesh under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act up till now. Under the Act, 25 per cent seats are reserved for children of weaker sections of the society.
