Telangana students to launch ‘Gujjar’ type strike in the region

Hyderabad, July 29: As part of expressing solidarity with the Telangana employees strike, Telangana Students Joint Action Committee chairman P Ravi on Friday announced a series of agitations in the Telangana region.

Talking to media persons after Telangana Students Joint Action Committee State Executive Committee meeting, convened at a private hostel in the city, Ravi said the committee took unanimous decision on expressing solidarity to the employees strike beginning from August 17.

Dikshit gets her Gandhi’s wrong

New Delhi, July 29: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Friday raised eyebrows when she “thanked” the late Rajiv Gandhi for attending the opening of a Guru Tegh Bahadur memorial – when she meant to refer to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.

“We are thankful to Rajiv Gandhi who has come here for the inauguration,” Dikshit said at the event on the capital’s outskirts.

The remark startled many in the audience but Dikshit, not realizing her slip, kept speaking.

Notices to 670 buildings without parking space

Hyderabad, July 29: After bulldozing illegal encroachments from road margins, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is going to launch another demolition drive in early August, against commercial and shopping complexes and multi-storied buildings for violation of parking norms.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, GHMC commissioner MT Krishna Babu said notices have been slapped against 670 building owners to restore area earmarked for parking purposes within a week.

Painter from UP held for stealing 75 tola gold

Hyderabad, July 29: A person from Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh allegedly involved in robbing 75 tola gold from a widow was arrested by police on Thursday and 25 tola gold recovered from him. Police said Amjad, a painter from Uttar Pradesh, had been hired by a 77-year-old widow Jeevakireetam for repainting her house at Innovation Apartments in June. Using the pretext of coming to paint the house, Amjad and his associates entered the house and threatened to kill Jeevakireetam by showing a knife. Later, she was gagged and her hands and legs tied using a saree.

Toddler dies after falling from the top of building

Hyderabad, July 29: A one and a half year old kid died after mysteriously falling from the top of a building. The incident occurred under Kukatpally police station limits. Rama Raju’s son Kartik resident of Madhavaram colony was playing on the terrace of his house when he suddenly fell down.

It is said that Kartik fell down from nearly 50 feet height and got serious injuries. He was rushed to the corporate hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

Police Kukatpally have registered a case and investigations are underway.

One dies as gas cylinder bursts

Hyderabad, July 29: A mother and son were seriously injured as the gas cylinder burst at a house. The son died yesterday in a hospital. The accident occurred on July 26 at Dandegal police station limits. 3 year old Varun Tej who was seriously burnt died after 3 days in a hospital.

According to police sources wife of D Krishna of Swararam, sensing the leakage from gas cylinder tried to switch off the regulator when the cylinder burst. However something fishy is suspected in the accident.

Wife burnt alive by drunkard husband

Hyderabad, July 29: A drunkard husband burned his wife alive in Tandur area. Police Tandur told this. Police registered a murder case against the cruel husband and have started the manhunt. According to police sources 25 year old Mohammadi Begum died in an attack by her husband. Mohammad Yousuf resident of Yeeropally village Tandur married with Mohammad Begum four years ago and they have two children. Yousuf is a habitual drunkard he used to assault his wife daily in drunkard state.

Kasab appeals against death sentence

new Delhi, July 29: Ajmal Amir Kasab, lone survivor terrorist of 26/11 Mumbai attacks, has appealed in the Supreme Court against the death sentence given to him by a trial court and upheld by the Bombay High Court.

Kasab’s appeal was filed by the authorities at the Arthur road jail in Mumbai where he has been lodged since he was arrested in 2008.

Kasab was convicted by the trial court for murder, conspiracy and waging a war against India and sentenced to death last year. The verdict was upheld by the high court this year.

Another woman tortured as a witch in Rajasthan

Jaipur: A 35-year-old woman has alleged she was branded a witch by villagers, tortured and was being forced to leave her village, in the second such case in two months in Rajasthan’s Dungarpur district.

The woman told police Thursday that her husband Manilal Parmar was also beaten up in Dowada village, about 500 km from state capital Jaipur. A case has been registered against three villagers.

“A group of people came to my house July 4 and started beating me. They said I was a ‘dayan’ (witch). The torture has been going on since then,” the woman said in her complaint.
