Action against Swamy for anti-Muslim views

New Delhi, July 30: The National Commission for Minorities will Tuesday decide what action if any should be taken against against Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy who has, in a signed newspaper article, suggested that the voting rights of Indian Muslims be revoked.

Wajahat Habibullah, who heads the panel, said members of the commission had already studied Swamy’s article, “How to wipe out Islamic terror”, which violates the law and incites hatred.

Fourth case of swine flu in city

Hyderabad, July 30:  It seems the monsoon has brought back the dreaded swine flu! Resigned but will go to Parliament

Hyderabad, July 30: Telangana Congress MPs Madhu Yashky, Suresh Shekar, Balaram Naik and some others who have submitted their resignation letters some time ago has decided to go to Parliament to attend the monsoon sessions that begins from 1st of August.

They said that they don’t with draw their resignation letters but go to Parliament only to support their party in the house. Most probably, the Telangana MLAs and Ministers also may adopt the same policy during the coming assembly sessions.

Toronto, July 30: Husband stabs wife to death with a meat cleaver An Indian-origin woman was butchered to death with a meat cleaver on the outskirts of Vancouver. Police have identified the victim as Ravinder Kaur Bhangu, 24, who worked as an administrative assistant at the weekly newspaper Sach Di Awaaz.

According to Sukhminder Cheema, a journalist who worked at the paper, Mrs Bhangu was killed by her husband Sunny Bhangu. Ms Cheema says she was a witness to the attack.

Shiv Sena calls for bandh on August 1

Mumbai, July 30: Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday called for a Mumbai bandh on August 1 on the issue of free housing for mill workers.

Mr. Thackeray, who took to the streets with thousands of workers for a morcha, said his party would ensure a complete shutdown if the Maharashtra government failed to meet their demands.

“Bandh means bandh,” he declared at a rally marking the culmination of the morcha.

Praveen fined for arguing with on-field umpire

Nottingham, July 30: India pacer Praveen Kumar has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during England`s first innings on the opening day of the second cricket Test at Trent Bridge.

According to an ICC statement, Praveen was found to have breached Article 2.1.3 of the Code of Conduct which relates to arguing or entering into a prolonged discussion with the umpire about his decision.

After conclusion of the day`s play, Praveen admitted the offence and accepted the proposed sanction offered to him by ICC match referee Ranjan Madugalle.

Zardari, Gilani hail positive talks with India

Islamabad, July 30: Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday hailed the “positive outcome” of the Pakistan-India foreign ministers’ talks and vowed to continue the dialogue process to resolve all issues between the two countries.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar and her Indian counterpart SM Krishna met in New Delhi on Wednesday and agreed on several confidence-building measures and also pledged to continue the dialogue process.

President to honor Nizam bomber

Hyderabad, July 30: The heroic freedom fighter, Jagadish Arya, who hurled a bomb at the Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan on the evening of December 4, 1947, is likely to be honoured by the President, Ms Pratibha Patil, on August 9, on the occasion of the 69th anniversary celebrations of the Quit India Movement. The Hyderabad Collector, Mr Natarajan Gulzar, has recommended that he be given a place of honour in the reception.

14 killed in Pakistan’s ethnic violence

Islamabad, July 30: At least seven Shia pilgrims were gunned down on Friday in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province while seven people were killed in fresh wave of ethnic and sectarian violence in Sindh’s provincial capital in the last 24 hours.

The Shia pilgrims were killed at a bus stand in Saryab district of Balochistan’s provincial capital Quetta in the afternoon, according to police officials.

Blasts shake Libyan capital Tripoli

Tripoli, July 30: Several explosions shook the Libyan capital Tripoli overnight, an AFP journalist said early today, the latest of many blasts in a city which has been targeted almost daily by NATO air raids.

Shortly after 10pm (2000 GMT) yesterday, at least 10 powerful blasts, some distance away, were heard in the city centre.

Early today, three explosions rocked the district where Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s residence is located in the centre of Tripoli, shaking the hotel nearby where international correspondents are based.

Blast kills at least 17 at Ukrainian coal mine

Kiev, July 30: An explosion at a Ukrainian coal mine killed at least 17 miners on Friday, the Emergencies Ministry said, the latest in a series of accidents that has raised concern over safety standards in the industry.

Two miners were injured in the explosion at the Sukhodilska-Eastern mine in the Luhansk region in the former Soviet republic’s coal mining heartland, and nine were missing.

The blast early on Friday at the mine in the town of Sukhodilsk was the deadliest of its kind since 2007, when a methane explosion at a nearby mine killed more than 100 people.

In Pandarwada mass grave case SC stays proceedings against Teesta

New Delhi, July 30: The Supreme Court on Friday stayed all proceedings against social activist Teesta Setalvad, who alleged that she was being harassed by Gujarat police for taking the lead in unearthing a mass grave of 2002 riot victims at Pandarwada village.

A bench of Justices Aftab Alam and R M Lodha issued notice to the Gujarat government and ordered stay of proceedings in the case after her counsel Kamini Jaiswal argued that the Gujarat High Court erred in not quashing the FIR lodged against her client in the case.
