Pakistani terror suspect arrested in Canada

Toronto, July 24: A Pakistani man was arrested in Canada on Saturday for war crimes and terror links. Arshad Muhammad, who was arrested from the Toronto suburb of Mississauga, has reportedly been linked to a Pakistan-based Islamist organisation.

The 42-year-old man, who has been evading arrest for years, was nabbed after police spotted him in a convenience store in Mississauga which is home to a huge population of Indians and Pakistanis.

26/11 probe to dominate Indo-Pak talks

New Delhi, July 24: There has been no breakthrough in the 13/7 Mumbai serial blasts case. But India is not going to talk about it in the upcoming Foreign Minister level talks with Pakistan. The focus will instead be on 26/11 when the two sides meet this week.

Sources have told CNN-IBN that India will seek an expeditious probe into the 26/11 attacks and that India is categorical that terror must end for meaningful dialogue.

However, India won’t raise the July 13 Mumbai bombings as it is waiting for credible cross-border link to emerge.

New Delhi, July 24: Model-turned actress Aarti Chhabria has emerged the winner of the fourth season of “Fear Factor-Khatron Ke Khiladi” after weeks of gruelling tasks involving underwater stunts, fighting off creepy crawlies and jumping off dangerous heights.

Aarti and her partner Dhaval Thakur succeeded over singer Mauli Dave and Dhiraj, after facing two risky stunts on the grand finale, aired on Colors Saturday. Model Diandra Soares and her partner Arhan were the other finalists, but lost the first stunt.

Hazare should come to Bihar: RJD

Patna, July 24: Leader of opposition the Bihar assembly Saturday asked gandhian-socialite Anna Hazare to visit the state and study the alleged land scam involving the government as he once praised Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his good work. He also demanded CBI probe in the case.

“I am sending documents related to land scam and financial irregularities of crores of rupees as revealed by the latest CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General) report to Anna Hazare,” Abdul Bari Siddiqui of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) said.

Two Pakistani militants killed in gunfight

Srinagar, July 24: Two Pakistani militants of the Lashkar-e-Taiba were killed in a gunfight with the security forces in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday.

The gunfight erupted when the police and troops of 21 Rashtriya Rifles launched a search-and-cordon operation in the Bagh-e-Hakhar area at Handwara, 90 km from here.

The bodies of the militants were buried at a graveyard, officials said.

The security forces were searching for the third militant, who the officials said might have escaped as the house where they were hiding caught fire.

Dubai, July 24: Dubai residents have been warned against hiring illegal immigrants. Those who violate the law will have to face grave consequences, said officials.

Major Saeed Suhail Al Ayyali, Acting Director of the Dubai Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID), told Gulf News offenders of the labour recruitment rules, especially with regard to illegal recruitment practices, will be liable.

Refused to marry, teenage girl burnt alive

Bareilly, July 24: A teenaged girl was burnt to death by some locals here for rejecting a marriage proposal, police said Saturday.

The 15-year-old, a native of Khajuria village in Izzatnagar town, was set afire Friday night inside her house. She died on way to hospital.

“The girl’s mother has accused her neighbour and his two-three aides for killing her daughter,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Raj Kumar told reporters in Bareilly, some 250 km from Lucknow.

Its duty of state to supress terrorists: India

Thimpu, July 24: Talking tough on terrrorism, India today said that was the legal and moral duty of the state to suppress terrorists, including non-state actors, and bring them to justice.

“The difference between state and non-state actors is misplaced. Nations must act if their territory is used by non-state actors,” Home Minister P. Chidambaram said in Thimphu.

He is attending a meeting of home ministers of the eight-nation South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

Srinagar, July 24: The parade of army personnel to identify the alleged accused who raped and abducted a woman in south Kashmir was postponed Sunday, even as Marxist leader Brinda Karat demanded suspension of a policeman for releasing a video of the victim while she was giving her statement.

“The identification parade of army personnel deployed in (Manzgam area) would be held at the appropriate time. The investigations are still in the preliminary stage,” a police officer told IANS.

Norway, July 24: Police said Anders Behring Breivik, detained by police after 85 people were gunned down at a youth camp and another 7 killed in a bomb attack on Friday, was unknown to them and his Internet activity traced so far included no calls to violence.

In comments from 2009-2010 to other people’s articles on website www.document.no, which calls itself critical of Islam, Breivik criticized European policies of trying to accommodate the cultures of different ethnic groups.

Hyderabad, July 24: In an unexpected turn of events on Saturday night , State Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar rejected the resignations of all Telangana MLAs, numbering about 100, on the ground that they were tendered in an “emotionally charged atmosphere”.

An announcement that the Speaker had not accepted the resignations was made by the Secretary, Legislature, S. Raja Sadaram, a little while after Mr. Manohar boarded a flight to London to participate in the Commonwealth Presiding Officers’ conference.

NSC report to be ready within two months: Menon

Hyderabad, July 24: The National Statistical Commission (NSC) will submit its report within two months to the Centre so that this report could be used to draft a Legislation, said Prof NR Madhava Menon at a one-day consultative workshop on the draft National Statistical Code at the NIRD campus on Saturday.

The NSC is mandated inter alia to advise the Government on legislative measures in statistical matters. The NSC constituted a committee, for the purpose, including a Bill to provide statutory status to the NSC.

Fate of Vastanvi to be decided today

Deoband, July 24: Decision on the fate of Ghulam Mohammad Vastanvi, the vice-chancellor of Darul Uloom Deoband, would be taken on Sunday by a three-member Majlis-e Shura.

“The decision on Vastanvis’s fate would be taken in tomorrow’s meet,” acting vice-chancellor Mufti Abul Qasim Nomani said on Saturday.

11 killed, 89 injured in China rail accident

Beijing, July 24: Eleven people were killed and 89 others were injured when a bullet train derailed in eastern China Saturday night, Xinhua reported.

The accident occurred around 8.30 p.m. The train was on its way from Zhejiang provincial capital of Hangzhou to the southeastern city of Fuzhou.
Some of the coaches fell off a bridge.

“Rescuers have dragged many passengers out of the coaches,” a witness told Xinhua over phone.

‘Stop destroying Bahrain’s mosques’

Manama, July 24: Bahrain’s top cleric, Sheikh Issa Qasim, has condemned the desecration and demolition of mosques and holy sites by the Saudi-backed regime forces.

KSA deploys more troops in Bahrain

Manama, July 24: Saudi Arabia has deployed more forces in Bahrain in an attempt to further help King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s crackdown on anti-government demonstrators.

The convoy of the Saudi armored vehicles arrived to the crisis-hit Bahrain on Saturday, Rasad News reported.

Meanwhile, a new footage has emerged showing the Al Khalifa regime’s continuing its brutal crackdown on the demonstrators.

The anti-regime protesters have been rallying in Bahrain since mid-February, demanding an end to the Al Khalifa dynasty, which has ruled the Persian Gulf country for over 40 years.
