Need to hike Muslim Mass Marriage budget

Hyderabad, July 27: Mr. Farooq Husain MLC in a letter to chief minister stated that the government of Andhra Pradesh has allotted a budget of 100 lakh rupees for Muslim mass marriages for the year 2011-12 which is inadequate pertaining to Muslim minority population of the state. Minorities of the state are mostly living below poverty line. The welfare programme of Muslim mass marriages of the government holds significance for the poor Muslims particularly for those residing in rural areas.

NATO: Gadhafi cannot wait us out

Cairo, July 27: NATO says it will continue bombing the Libyan regime’s armed forces as long as needed, and the country’s leader, Moammar Gadhafi, cannot “wait us out.”

Spokeswoman Carmen Romero said Tuesday that, as long as Gadhafi’s forces threaten civilians, NATO will continue air operations over Libya.

When NATO took command of operations, it expected that a sharp blow would quickly persuade Gadhafi to yield power. But the bombing campaign — now in its fifth month — has yet to dislodge his regime.

Maoists blast mobile tower in Bihar

Patna, July 27: Maoists, who are observing a 24-hour shutdown, blasted a mobile phone tower in Bihar’s Saran district early Wednesday, police said.

A group of armed Maoists used a dynamite to blast the mobile phone tower at a village under Maker police station in Saran, police said.

Police have launched a combing operation in the area.

The rebels are observing a 24-hour shutdown to protest alleged police atrocities against their supporters.

Washington, July 27: Jammu and Kashmir separatist leader, Ghulam Nabi Fai has been ordered to release from Jail and put under house arrest under electronic surveillance with radio tag on his knuckles by a US court.

Kashmir-born US citizen, Fai, was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), last week on charges of working for the government of Pakistan, in particular its spy agency, the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), to lobby at the Capitol Hill and the Administration on Kashmir.

Bin Laden death ups terror risk for Americans: US

Washington, July 27: The Obama administration says Osama bin Laden’s death has raised the risk of anti-American violence worldwide.

The State Department said in a global travel warning on Tuesday that Americans should take precaution and maintain vigilance about terrorist threats, demonstrations and the possibility of violence against US citizens.

It said al-Qaida and other groups are planning terror attacks against US interests in Europe, Asia, Africa and Middle East.

Ramesh cleans shoe with khadi garland, Cong fumes

New Delhi, July 27: Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh has stirred a controversy by wiping his shoe with a garland of spun cotton (khadi) given to him as a token of respect by Congress workers at a function in Rajasthan, with his party Tuesday conveying its disapproval.

Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi conveyed the party’s disappointment over Ramesh’s action without directly naming him.

“In the life of a nation, there are certain important symbols and one should be more careful and sensitive about them,” Dwivedi said.

Telangana employees to go on strike from Aug 17

Hyderabad, July 27: Andhra Pradesh government employees’ unions in Telangana region would participate in the proposed strike in support of separate statehood agitation from August 17.

“We have given a notice to join the agitation from August 1 and, accordingly, we will take part in the stir. We want Union Home Minister P Chidambaram’s statement in favour of separate statehood to be implemented,” K Swamy Goud, a leader of Telangana non-gazetted officers association, told reporters here.

CBI is harassing Guj govt: Minister

Gandhinagar, July 27: Gujarat Health and Tourism Minister Jaynarayan Vyas Tuesday accused the Congress-led UPA government at the centre of misusing the CBI to harass the democratically elected government of the state.

Hindu commander of Hizbul killed in Jammu

Jammu, July 27: The Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district has been identified as Subash alias Wasif, a Hindu member of the militant group, an army spokesperson said Wednesday.

Police had said Tuesday that the Hizbul commander killed after a gunfight in the forests of Kishtwar, about 210 km from here, was district commander Sajjad Ahmad alias Mohammad Rizwan.

However, the real identity was discovered after the body was brought down to Kishtwar town, the spokesperson said.
