Railways to procure hi-tech rescue equipment

New Delhi, July 27: To speed up rescue and relief operations in the aftermath of accidents, Railways have decided to procure hi-tech equipment worth Rs 500 crore, including high-speed self-propelled accident relief trains, plasma cutters and 175-ton capacity cranes.

Hydraulic cold and hot cutters and tunnel rescue equipment will also be procured to make rescue operations faster and effective.
Estimated to cost about Rs 500 crores, Railways will float global tenders for procuring the high capacity equipment shortly.

TCS and Wipro in race for Tirupati project

Hyderabad, July 27: TCS and Wipro are among three companies vying to bag the prestigious Sri Seva Project of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) to provide IT solutions that will help devotees.

Currently TTD offers four main e-services such as e-seva, e-accommodation, e-sudarshanam and e-hundi to the devotees and the Sri Seva project would help the administration in offering services like providing rooms, ‘laddus’ as well as in tonsuring.

There are as many as 48 departments which need to be automated and brought under one platform for better services to pilgrims, TTD had said.

Sensex falls 86 points to two-week low

Mumbai, July 27: The benchmark sensex continued its downslide for the second day in a row and dropped by about 86 points to close at two-week low of 18,432.25 on disappointing results by BHEL and selling in some key heavyweights.

The market that suffered a sharp setback yesterday due to hefty rise in key interest rates by the central bank, resumed better with the Bombay Stock Exchange 30-share barometer touching a high of 18,578.55.

Timing of strike not right, please reconsider: Botsa to employees

Hyderabad, July 27: Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana on Wednesday appealed to Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee to reconsider its decision of resorting to a mass strike from August 17.

Talking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, the PCC chief said that the employees’ decision to go on a mass strike was not right since it was taken at a time when High Command was consulting Telangana and Seemandhra leaders to arrive at a consensus on the controversial separate statehood issue.

Man kills wife, teenage daughter on vacation

New Delhi, July 27: Bodies of 35-year-old Tara Devi and her 14-year-old daughter Kajal were found in south Delhi’s Pushp Vihar on Tuesday. They arrived in Delhi from Ramnagar yesterday to visit a relative’s place. Tara Devi and her daughter were accompanied by her husband Jagdish, who has been absconding since the bodies were found.

Hyderabad, July 27: State government, before the onset of Ramadan, has sanctioned Rs 1 lakh 33 thousand for renovation and painting of Shahi Masjid, Public Garden. Secretary Minority Welfare Mohammad Ali Raffath issued a GO. RT 179 in this connection on Tuesday. District Minority Welfare Officer Hyderabad had proposed the government to release 1 lakh 33 thousand rupees for interior and exterior renovation of Shahi masjid, Public Garden. Accepting the proposal the government sanctioned the amount. The work will be completed before the onset of Holy Ramadan.

‘SW hostels won’t be closed’

Hyderabad, July 27: Minister for social welfare Pitani Satyanarayana has denied that the state government is contemplating closing down welfare hostels which has less than 50 students.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat, the minister, however, said that hostels whose student strength is less than 50 would be merged, and some 90 such hostels had already been merged.

SKC Report: HC refuses to set a date for hearing

Hyderabad, July 27: A division bench of the High Court comprising chief justice Nisar Ahmad Kakru and justice Vilas Afzalpurkar on Tuesday refused to fix any definite date for the hearing of the writ pleas for making public the Chapter VIII of the Srikrishna Committee’s report on Telangana.
The appeal filed by the government against the directions of the single judge was listed before the bench for Tuesday.

Woman, grandson run over by train

Visakhapatnam, July 27: A four-year-old boy and a 50-year-old woman died when they were run over by Visakha Express train near Gopalapatnam area in the city on Tuesday.
Police said the incident occurred when Sunkara Mohan, an LKG student and his grandmother Narasamma were returning home. They were crossing the railway track but did not see the train coming and were run over by the train.

Hyderabad, July 27: Two members of ‘Kali gang’ were arrested by police for allegedly hatching a plan to eliminate a family with whom they had a property dispute, on Tuesday. Police said that the two accused, Mirza Mohammad Abdullah Baig and Mohammed Shareef, were arrested.
A country-made pistol that has been procured by the two for allegedly conspiring to eliminate Mirza’s house owner Mohammadi Shaheen in Tolichowki and her brother Riyaz has been recovered.

Rape victim succumbs to injuries

Hyderabad, July 27: A 35- year-old woman who was allegedly gang raped at Ghatkesar a couple of days ago, died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Gandhi hospital.
Police said that the woman died of bleeding injuries on her private parts. On Saturday night, the victim along with a few relatives, consumed alocohol while on her way to Ramanthapur in an auto. “She fell unconscious. What transcribed subsequently is not known. Later, locals found her with bleeding injuries,” Ghatkesar inspector Ch Srikanth said.

AP State Hajj Committee chairman Mr. Syed Khaleeluddin Ahmed, revealed that as the demand for the Green category accommodation exceeded the available accommodation, there is a shortfall of 8,000 units.

Two die as train hits car at level crossing

Kurnool, July 27: Two persons died when the car in which they were travelling collided with a train near Dupadu on the outskirts of Kurnool town on Tuesday.
Realtors Sivashankar and Rajendra Prasad of Nandyal town were crossing an unmanned level crossing at Dupadu in their car when the accident took place.
The car was hit by a train which dragged them to a distance of 200 metres. Both of them died on the spot.

Work on Lakdi-ka-pul ROB to start Thursday

Hyderabad, July 27: Motorists using the heavily congested road over bridge (RoB) at Lakdi-ka-pul will get some much-needed relief from traffic snarls as the South Central Railway (SCR) and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is starting works for a two-lane parallel bridge from July 28. The project, which would make the stretch a four-lane road, is set to be completed in about 90 days.

Small kids at the mercy of stray dogs in city

Hyderabad, July 27: The Secunderabad Cantonment Board area has become dangerous for small children with stray dogs biting and injuring as many as 10 children in the last two days. The most recent victims of the dogs were six-year-old Hena Zabi and four-year-old MD Huzmun, both residents of Rasoolpura.
“A pack of eight dogs which were fighting among themselves on the street, attacked my child when she was relieving herself outside the house. My neighbour’s son Huzmun who was playing near the gate was bitten badly on Monday evening,” said MD Alim, father of Hena Zabi.

Man kills 6 daughters for honour

Islamabad, July 27: In a shocking incident, a Pakistani man has gunned down his six daughters on suspicion that two of them were in relationships with boys in the neighbourhood.

Arif Mubashir called his teenage daughters to his room and shot them while the rest of the family, including their mother, watched. His wife Musarrat called the police after the incident, the Express Tribune daily reported today.

Mubashir, a resident of Punjab province, shot the girls after their brother said two of them were in a relationship.
