To launch the musical, Jhumru which will be showcased in Gurgaon, King Khan arrived hours after the scheduled time at the event held in Toronto as part of the film awards weekend.

The star blamed that it was due to the shower taps! He claimed that whenever he travels, it takes him a while to figure out how the taps work in his hotel room.

President Patil arrives in Hyderabad for a week’s stay

Hyderabad, July 02: President Pratibha Patil arrived here on Saturday, on a six-day visit to Andhra Pradesh.

Ms. Patil was accorded a ceremonial reception after she arrived at the Begumpet airport by a special Indian Air Force plane at around 1230 hrs.

The President was received by Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and his wife Vimala Narasimhan, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister C. Damodar Rajanarasimha, Ministers Ponnala Laxmaiah, Geeta Reddy, Mukesh Goud, former Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, and Chief Secretary S.V. Prasad.

Gold dips below 22,000 level after 10 weeks, silver sheds Rs. 350

New Delhi, July 02: Gold prices dipped below Rs. 22,000 per 10 grams after 10 weeks in the national capital today on sustained selling by stockists on the back of a weak trend overseas.

Gold declined by Rs. 230 to Rs. 21,820 per 10 grams, a level last seen on April 19. Silver fell by Rs. 350 to Rs. 51,500 per kg.

Dealers said that trading sentiment remained bearish after gold fell in the global markets on easing sovereign debt crisis in Greece, curbing demand for the precious metals as an alternative investment.

Babies banned in Malaysian Airlines

London, July 02: Malaysia Airlines has banned babies from first-class cabins after wealthy passengers complained they were not able to sleep peacefully during their flights, a media report said.

The airline – which operates out of Kuala Lumpur – imposed the baby ban on the first-class cabins of its Boeing 747 jumbo jets, the Daily Mail reported.

Tengku Azmil, Malaysia Airlines chief executive officer and managing director, said he imposed the ban after the company received complaints from “well-to-do” passengers whose sleep had been disturbed by screaming children.

Sarabjit’s sister urges Pak to re-investigate brother’s case

Lahore, July 02: The sister of Sarabjit Singh , an Indian on death row here following his conviction for alleged involvement in bomb attacks, has appealed the Pakistan government to send a special team to India to re-investigate his case.

Dalbir Kaur, told a press conference here that her brother was innocent and a Pakistani team could investigate and ascertain the facts both within the country and in India.

Church of England to review homosexuality policy: Report

London, July 02: The Church of England is to review its approach to same-sex relationships, newspapers reported Saturday – an issue which has threatened to tear the global Anglican communion apart.

The Bishop of Norwich in eastern England, the Right Reverend Graham James, has said bishops now accept they have a responsibility to look at the issue and clarify the position on gay partnerships.

The review would be completed next year and then followed by a year-long consultation, The Times newspaper said.

Maria Susairaj walks free

Mumbai, July 02: Kannada actress Mariah Monica Susairaj was released from jail Saturday after being acquitted in the May 2008 killing of television executive Neeraj Grover.

Sporting a printed dress, Susairaj was quickly whisked into a waiting white Honda City car with tinted windows and a police van escorted it outside the jail compound.

It was not clear if any relatives were waiting in the car. She is expected to leave for Bangalore later in the day.

Hyderabad, July 02: Shoppers were in for a tough time on the first day of the ban on plastic bags of below 40-micron thickness in the city on Friday. At some stores and shopping complexes, customers were asked to pay extra for taking parcels in plastic bags of more than 40-micron thickness while a few others told customers to bring their containers to carry goods, particularly cooked items. Though some traders continued to give below 40-micron carry bags to customers, most of them said they were aware of the ban and were awaiting the stock of over 40-micron plastic carry bags.

TJAC warns Centre of severe backlash

Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar is new Chief Vigilance Commissioner

New Delhi, July 02: Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar was today unanimously chosen the next Chief Vigilance Commissioner , four months after the Supreme Court had quashed the appointment of P J Thomas to the post.

Though no official announcement has been made yet, sources said Kumar, who retires as Defence Secretary on July 31, was chosen by consensus by a panel comprising Prime Minister Manmohan Singh , Home Minister P Chidambaram and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj .

Beware of fraud companies: RBI

Hyderabad, July 2: Deputy General Manager RBI has warned the general public that some foreign companies are doing NBFI business and accepting deposits without obtaining Certificate of Registration (CoR) while misusing the name of RBI by displaying a fake CoR on its web site for collection deposits from the public.

RBI informed the public that there is no company registered by the name of Forex Achievements. RBI has warned the general public against depositing their money with unincorporated financial bodies and companies otherwise they themselves would be responsible for the consequence.

Man steals eyes from shrine , arrested

Islamabad, July 02: Even god is not safe from thieves. And this has been proved when the Pakistan police arrested a man who allegedly stole silver ‘eyes’ from a shrine that is believed to restore sight to the blind.

Police said that people who are ‘cured of blindness’ leave in gratitude eyes made of silver at the shrine of Shaki Shah Darwaish in village Thoag.

Dawn reported that a man had Wednesday tried to sell the silver eyes and two ceiling fans at a local market.

Alerted by shopkeepers, the police personnel gave chase and caught him.

Hyderabad, July 02: The central leadership of the Congress has advised its MPs and state legislators from the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh not to act in haste over the issue of a separate state, saying no problem can be solved through resignations.

Reacting to the decision of Congress MPs, ministers and legislators from Telangana to resign on Monday to protest the delay in carving out a separate Telangana state, Congress general secretary Gulam Nabi Azad said it is not a small issue which can be solved in two or four days.

Talking to newsmen after attending a “high tea” arranged by Mr Chiranjeevi at his residence, Mr Azad said, “We want him to be a minister in the Union Cabinet. Prior to my acceptance of Islam, my personal behavior demonstrated all too well why July 4th ranks as the holiday most associated with alcohol-related deaths. When I first read the Quran, Islam’s revealed text, and the traditions (hadith) of the Prophet Muhammad I expected to find something totally alien to American ideals.

Young boy dies of dog bite in Kushaiguda

Hyderabad, July 2: A young boy died due to rabies in the city outskirts. The incident occurred under Kushaiguda police station limits, where 11 year old boy Sharma died due to dog bite. Sharma was bit by a dog when he was playing near his house. According to sources during his play Sharma’s ball fell near the dog, to get the ball Sharma tried to scare away the dog but the dog, on the other hand, bit the boy. He was undergoing treatment since then however he died yesterday.

Pratibha to go Hyderabad, reshuffle after July 8

New Delhi, July 02: With President Pratibha Patil scheduled to leave for Hyderabad Saturday morning on a week-long stay, the proposed cabinet reshuffle may take place only after July 8, official sources said.

“The reshuffle is likely after the president’s return on July 8,” a senior official, who did not want to be identified, said.
“Though the president can come to Delhi during the period, the reshuffle may not be done under such an emergency situation,” he added.

Patil is leaving for the customary annual week-long stay in the Andhra Pradesh capital.

Show face to police, burqa-clad Australians told

Sydney, July 02: Women wearing the burqa or full-face veils will now be forced to show their faces when stopped by police, a senior official said.

Attorney-General Greg Smith said it was the duty of all citizens to identify themselves when asked by police and the law should reflect that, the Daily Telegraph reported.

He said he could understand the public outcry over situation like that of a Muslim woman who was jailed for knowingly making a false complaint about racism by police, but the sentence was overturned on appeal in the district court.

Islamic terrorism still a threat

Berlin, July 02: Germany’s top security official said on Friday that the terrorist threat to the country hasn’t decreased and the number of radicals continues to grow, even with the death of Osama bin Laden.

Security officials saw no reason to lower Germany’s threat level following the death of the al-Qaida leader, said Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich, presenting the annual report by Germany’s domestic intelligence agency.

“The Islamist terrorist threat is widely varied and has not concentrated on a single leader of al-Qaida for a long time,” he said.
