Ban Ahmadiyas from performing Haj, Darul Uloom asks Saudi govt

Muzaffarnagar, July 03: Leading Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband has asked Saudi Arabia to ban followers of Ahmadiya sect of Islam, also known as Qadianis, from performing Haj, terming them as “non-Muslims”.

The seminary has written a letter to the King of Saudi Arabia through his country’s ambassador to India, seeking a ban on pilgrimage for the sect, the acting vice chancellor of Darul Uloom Maulana Abul Kasim Naumani said today.

According to Shariat law “non Muslims cannot be allowed to perform Haj”.

Major fire at Delhi power station

New Delhi, July 03: A major fire broke out at a power sub-station near Rajghat in central Delhi Sunday, officials said. No casualty was reported.

The incident took place at around 11.15 a.m. near the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi when a 100 MVA transformer caught fire. “Around 27 fire tenders were pressed into service,” a fire official said.

“There is no casualty,” said a police officer, adding that they would douse the fire soon. The area has been evacuated, he said.

Rebel TDP legislators begin fast for unity on Telangana

Hyderabad, July 03: Four rebel legislators of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) from the Telangana region Sunday began a two-day fast for unity among parties and leaders fighting for a separate Telangana state.

A day before MPs, state ministers and legislators of the Congress party and legislators of TDP are scheduled to submit their resignations, TDP legislators launched their hunger strike at Indira Park here.

Kerala temple treasure: 1 lac crore and still counting

Thiruvananthapuram: Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple in Kerala could well be the richest in the country as unofficial estimates Saturday, the sixth day of preparing an inventory of treasures in its six chambers, suggested the value of its gold, diamond and other precious metals at close to Rs one lakh crore.

The inventory of the temple here, maintained by the erstwhile royal family of Travancore, is being made by a seven-member Supreme Court-appointed panel.

Mumbai, July 03: Following reports that Sonakshi Sinha of Dabbang girl, pulled out of Viswaroopam opposite Kamal Haasan rumours are doing rounds that Deepika Padukone might replace her.

Sources say that Sonakshi might go on to do Rowdy Rathod. Shooting for Kamal’s film was to start from the first week of June, but the plan was changed when director Selvaraghavan walked out of the project. There are also reports that Deepika Padukone might replace Sonakshi in Viswaroopam.

MBT’s public meeting cancelled as police denied permission

Hyderabad, July 3: Tension prevailed on Saturday night at Hafez Babanagar area of old city Hyderabad when Majlis Bachao Tahreek protested against police attitude for not granting permission for a public meeting.

MBT was going to organise Jalsa Milli Bedari at Hafez Babanagar however police denied permission allegedly under political pressure and deployed heavy police force right from the evening itself. Tension prevailed due to police patrolling and presence of heavy police force in the area and alarming and panicky situation reigned over the area.

Man beaten to death after son elopes with girl

Muzaffarnagar, July 03: A man was allegedly beaten to death by the family of a girl with whom his son eloped at Moghpur village in the district, police said today.

Satpal, the boy’s father, was found dead yesterday with his body bearing injury marks, they said.

The victim’s son Sonu (23) had eloped with a girl Renu (22) on June 18 after her family opposed their affair, they said.

The girl’s family had registered a case against the boy and also threatened his father, police added.

Teenage girl commits suicide

Firozabad, July 03: A 16-year-old girl today allegedly committed suicide after being snubbed by her father in Sirsaganj area, near here, police said today.

Sarita”s father snubbed her over a petty issue following which she consumed some poisonous substance, they said, adding that the body has been sent for postmortem.

‘Iran to firmly react to enemy threats’

Tehran, July 03: A top Iranian Navy commander has undermined threats against the Islamic Republic, saying the country’s naval forces will firmly defend national interests and counter threats posed by enemies.

“Iran’s Navy is a strategic force that will nip threats against the Islamic establishment in the bud thanks to its regional and extra-regional capabilities,” said Iran’s Navy Deputy Commander Rear Admiral Gholam Reza Khadem Bigham on Saturday.

He added that enemies resort to every possible means to dent Iran’s enormous military might, IRNA reported.

Alleged prophet held in Saudi

Makkah, July 03: A Saudi man mounted a prayers platform at the Grand Mosque in Islam’s holiest shrine in the Gulf kingdom and told thousands of worshippers that he was a prophet and their saviour before he was seized by police.

The 36-year-old man, identified as Sami, waited until the Muslims finished their evening prayers at the Grand Mosque in the western town of Makkah, mounted the podium and delivered his brief, fiery speech. “I am Al-Mehdi Al-Montathar…I am a prophet sent (by God) to save and guide you,” he told the packed hall before was overpowered by police.

All Party Meet on Lokpal bill today

Hyderabad, July 3: Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherji has called an all party meet on Lok pal bill on July 3 at New Delhi. He sent a letter to TRS chief Chandershekhar Rao and appealed to attend the meeting. In his letter Pranabh Mukherji stated that centre is considering over proposal of drafting Lokpal bill to rout corruption among high officials in the country.

Five ministers and five activists led by Anna Hazare were assigned to draft the Bill.

The discussions of joint draft committee have been over however difference of opinion is found on some issues.

150 e-divorces in Dubai

Dubai, July 03: Dubai recorded 555 divorce cases among its Muslim population in 2010 and 150 of them were done by e-mail of mobile phone text messages.

While some experts consider a divorce through such means is legal, others believe it is not legitimate or final under Islamic law on the grounds spouses could fake such a divorce for some reasons.

Under Islamic law, a Muslim man can divorce his wife by just saying “your are divorced” three times but a woman cannot do the same.

‘Babies can hear emotion as early as three months old’

New Delhi, July 03: Babies as young as three months old can distinguish sad from neutral sounding voices even when they are asleep, British scientists have found.

The findings, the researchers said, have implications for future research into how brain function and development relates to later disorders such as autism.

“It is probably because the human voice is such an important social cue that the brain shows an early specialisation for its processing,” said Anna Blasi, study researcher from Kings College London.
