Teenage Mumbai girl gang raped, threatened with rape MMS

Mumbai, July 03: In a shocking incident, a 16-year-old girl was gang raped by boys on her way back from Prabhadevi’s Siddhivinayak temple on Wednesday morning.

The rapists were known to the girl, and had accompanied her to the temple. Four of the accused have been arrested, while the police are on the lookout for the fifth.

Builder held for financing Dey’s killing

Mumbai, July 03: In a major breakthrough in investigations into the murder of senior journalist J Dey, the crime branch of Mumbai police has arrested a local builder Vinod Chembur, who allegedly financed the killing of Dey.

Vinod Asrani alias Chembur was produced before a Magistrate this morning and remanded to police custody till July 7.

Crime branch sources said intensive grilling of sharpshooter Kaliya and Underworld don Chhota Rajan’s key aide D K Rao, who was picked up for questioning yesterday, revealed the involvement of Vinod Chembur.

Hyderabad, July 03: Students of the Sri Chaitanya group created history in the Eamcet results announced on Friday by sweeping all the top-10 ranks in the medical category and bagging seven of the top-10 ranks in the engineering stream. The state first rankers, both in engineering and medical streams, were from Sri Chaitanya group. Students from the Narayana group bagged 2nd, 6th and 10th ranks in the engineering category and 11th, 12th ranks in the medical stream. Nalla Pratyush from Sri Chaitanya topped the state in the engineering stream.

Number of Eamcet qualifiers slip

Hyderabad, July 03: The number of Eamcet qualifiers slipped to 2,59,753 this year when the ranks were announced on Friday, as 17,478 failed the Intermediate exams despite qualifying in Eamcet. Originally, 2,78,852 students had qualified in Eamcet, when the marks were announced on June 8. Of them, 14,497 students in the engineering stream and 2,981 students in the medical stream have failed the Intermediate exams this year.

Police inspector arrested for molesting minor girl

Puri, July 03: A police inspector was arrested for allegedly outraging the modesty of a minor girl in a Puri-bound train today, railway police said.

The incident took place in the wee hours when Santosh Mallick, Inspector, CID-Special Branch in Cuttack, was travelling to Puri for Rathyatra duty in Jagannath Express, Railway DSP Pandab Mohanty said.

The nine-year-old girl travelling with her family from Kolkata was asleep when the accused, stated to be in an inebrieted state, allegedly outraged her modesty, he said quoting the FIR lodged by the girl’s mother.

Four Telangana TDP legislators resign

Hyderabad, July 03: Four dissident Telugu Desam Party (TDP) legislators from Telangana on Sunday sent their resignations to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker even as both ruling Congress and the main opposition TDP legislators from the region are set to resign on Monday seeking a separate state.

Congress MPs, state ministers and legislators reiterated that they will not go back on their resignations even as the party leadership continued its efforts for the second day to dissuade them.

Kochi, July 03: A Paravoor-like sex racket has come to light at Kothamangalam, a town situated 45 kilometres north east of Kochi, where too a father forced his 15-year-old daughter into prostitution.

The father, a daily labourer, forced his daughter into sex trade after he began to lose steady income owing to illnesses. The incident came to light after police summoned both to the station upon hearing rumours on a sex racket. On being questioned, the girl revealed that she was forced into flesh trade by the father.

Woman’s chopped body found !

New Delhi, July 03: Chopped parts of woman’s body was found in the gitter of capital’s posh Vasant Vihar locality, police said.

The police received an anonymous call at around 1.55 p.m. about body parts in a gutter in the south Delhi locality.

“The parts were being eaten by pigs when we reached the spot,” a police official said.

Further details were not immediately available.

Tripoli, July 03: Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has warned to carry out attacks in Europe against “homes, offices, families”, unless NATO halts its airstrikes in Libya.

Gaddafi delivered the warning in a telephone message played to thousands of supporters in the main square of Tripoli, Fox News reports.

“These people (the Libyans) are able to one day take this battle … to Europe, to target your homes, offices, families, which would become legitimate military targets, like you have targeted our homes,” he said.

Malaysia’s Anwar condemns arrests ahead of rally

Kuala Lumpur, July 03: Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim Sunday condemned the arrest of a lawmaker and five activists in Malaysia under a tough security law ahead of a planned rally to demand free and fair elections.

The six members of the Socialist Party of Malaysia are being held under the Emergency Ordinance, which allows indefinite detention without trial. They were arrested by police on June 25.

Their detention is part of a major nationwide crackdown by Prime Minister Najib Razak’s government to stop the rally on July 9 in the capital Kuala Lumpur.

Price of U.S. wars: $4.4 trillion?

Washington, July 03: The final bill for U.S. military involvement in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan could be as much as $4.4 trillion, according to a comprehensive report Tuesday.

In the 10 years since American troops were sent into Afghanistan, the federal government has already spent $2.3 trillion to $2.7 trillion, say the authors of the study by Brown University’s Watson Institute for International Studies.

The report calculates not only direct spending on the conflicts but also the long-term costs of caring for wounded veterans and projected war spending from 2012-20.

Prime accused in Journo JDey murder case arrested

Mumbai, July 03: The Mumbai police on Sunday arrested a key suspect, Vinod Chembur, in connection with senior journalist Jyotirmoy Dey murder case, Times Now reported. Chembur is believed to have financed the killing and identified Dey to the shooters.

The Mumbai crime branch on Saturday had also questioned Chhota Rajan aide DK Rao in connection with the murder on June 11. While senior police officials remained tight-lipped, sources said they grilled Rao to find out whether he had prior knowledge of Dey’s murder or not.
