Hyderabad, July 05: Last date of Examinations for Distance Education courses run by Maulana Azad National Urdu University is 31st July 2011. Students appearing for Certificate & Diploma courses and also U.G. and P.G.

Bandh starts in Telangana

Hyderabad, July 05: Normal life in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh was disrupted on Tuesday due to the two-day bandh called by the Telangana political Joint action Committee (JAC) in support of their demand for a separate state.

Schools, colleges, shops and other commercial establishments were closed and public transport services were hit due to the bandh in all Telangana districts.

The JAC, which has announced a series of protests in support of the separate statehood call, has also called for a rail blockade on July 8 and 9.

Self employment scheme for business – Applications invited

Hyderabad, July 05: Govt. has earn marked 540 persons for Hyderabad for providing financial assistance to unemployed SSC passed candidates in the age-group of 18-35 years whose annual family income is less than 50 thousand rupees for starting their own business.

Financial assistance will be provided to the extent of Re One lakh which includes 20% subsidy, 10% applicant’s share and the remaining 70% bank loan. Application forms can be obtained from the District Youth Welfare Officer, Collectorate Complex, Nampally, Hyderabad. before 11th July 2011.

3 Tihar jail officials suspended: Tea party with Kalmadi

New Delhi, July 05: What has been suspected for quite some time has finally been confirmed – VIPs do get VIP treatment even if they are in jail.

After holding an inquiry, Tihar Jail officials have confirmed that several inmates were flouting jail regulations like moving around freely inside jail premises and having tea with the jail officials.

Three officials have been suspended following the inquiry. The Ministry of Home Affairs will now decide what action to take against them.

Congress ministers, MPs and MLAs from Telangana meet Azad

New Delhi, July 05: A day after tendering their resignations, Congress ministers, MPs and MLAs from Telangana region in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday met senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and are understood to have demanded an early decision by the Centre on the separate state issue.

Three senior ministers — K Jana Reddy, Ponnala Laxmaiah and Basavaraj Saraiah — reached here from Hyderabad on Monday night to hold consultations with the Congress High Command on the issue after being summoned.

Intensifying the movement for a separate state of Telangana, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao and his colleague Vijayshanti faxed their resignations to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar. KCR, as the TRS chief is popularly known, and Vijayshanti said they would soon visit Delhi to personally meet and request her to accept their resignations.

200 injured at rally against Italian high-speed rail link

Italy, July 05: Around two hundred people, mainly police officers, were injured as officers clashed with masked protesters at a rally against a high-speed rail link in northern Italy Sunday, police said.

Clashes between protesters and police left at least 188 officers and about a dozen demonstrators hurt, said officials, after a small group stormed a tunnel which was part of the work site at Chiomonte, west of Turin.

Scuffles between protesters and a heavy police presence continued throughout the day, with a steady exchange of tear gas, stones and molotov cocktails.

Tallest golden minaret gets ready

Riyadh: Nearly 250 workers are working to finish the construction of what will soon be the tallest golden minaret in the world which is targeted for completion within three weeks before Ramadan.

Work on the minaret, which will be topped by what will also be touted to become the world’s largest crescent, is progressing well, sources said.

The minaret is being constructed on top of the Makkah Royal Clock Tower.

Indian firm gets railway contract in UAE

Hyderabad, July 05: P.C.M. Company of Siligudi in West Bengal bagged an important railway contract in UAE for laying sleepers on the railway lines running over 266 km which will connect Saudi Arabia through Amman and Abu Dhabi. The company got this contract from Ittehad Railway of Abu Dhabi.

Earlier, Sagar Infra Rail of Hyderabad had obtained railway contract in Dubai. The contractor of this company is Mr. K. Dayanand Reddy.

Ramadan’s longest day this year

Dubai, July 05: Muslims who fast during Ramadan this year will experience the longest day of the fasting month in 26 years, according to a calendar expert here.

“The first day of Ramadan will be the longest day as Muslims will have to fast for 14 hours and 50 minutes,” said Ashraf Nourul Haq Ashraf, head of the Calendar Department at Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai.

Ashraf said Muslims will fast for the longest duration during this Ramadan, after 26 years.

The @foxnewspolitics feed stated: “@BarackObama has just passed. The President is dead. A sad 4th of July, indeed. President Barack Obama is dead.”

Just an hour before the message, there was a post “Just regained full access to our Twitter and email. Happy 4th”. July 4 is America’s national day.

Man cleared of ‘sex in his sleep’ rape charge

London, July 05: A man was found innocent of raping a teenage girl yesterday after a jury was told that he suffered from “sexsomnia”.

A sleep consultant confirmed to Swansea Crown Court that Stephen Lee Davies, a 43-year-old from Pembroke Dock in west Wales, was most likely telling the truth when he said that he was unable to prevent himself having sex during his sleep before waking up oblivious to what had happened.

Namaz at Toronto school angers Hindus ( Lead)

Toronto, July 05: Friday namaz at a school in the Toronto suburb of North York has angered Hindu advocacy groups here, who want it stopped.

The noon-time prayers for 400 Muslim students of the Valley Park Middle School were introduced three years ago.

Angry Hindu advocacy groups want the 40-minute prayers, which are conducted by an imam specially brought from a mosque, to be stopped immediately.

The local Canadian Hindu Advocacy, led by Ron Banerjee, is roping in various Hindu organisations to hold protests outside the school to pressure management to stop the Friday prayers.

Mudfort Basti under threat of demolition

Hyderabad, July 05: Around 450 poor families living at the Mudfort Basti in the Secunderabad Cantonment area might become homeless, after being asked to vacate the land.

The Mudfort Basti houses people who generally work as labourers at construction sites in the city. The area which is home to a population of 1,900, came up after some families migrated from surrounding districts of Hyderabad around 15 years back, set up huts and settled down.
