K Srikar Reddy appointed as regional passport officer

Hyderabad, July 5: Central government has appointed Mr. K Srikar Reddy IFS as regional passport officer Hyderabad. 38 year old Koppula Srikar Reddy belonging to 2001 batch hails from Kondagadapa Mandal, Mothkur Nalgonda District. He completed MBBS from Kakatiya University Medical College in 1996 and is counted among dynamic officials of his batch. Mr. Srikar Reddy had earlier served in embassy in Berlin Germany. At present he is serving in External affairs ministry at New Delhi and is incharge of Pakistan desk which holds great significance.

Tension in Osmania University

Hyderabad, July 05: Tension prevailed at Osmania University here Tuesday as police lobbed teargas shells to disperse students who tried to take out a rally supporting the 48-hour Telangana shutdown.

Students began a rally from Arts College but were stopped by police at NCC Gate in view of ban orders in the city. The shutdown has been called by the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC).

Students pelted stones and clashed with policemen, including paramilitary Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel.

Student organisations obstruct PG counselling

Tirupati, July 5: Tension prevailed for some time at Srinvasa auditorium on Sri Venkateswara University campus here on Monday, when leaders of various student organisations interrupted the counselling and admission process for those selected in SVURPGCET-2011, demanding uniform fees.
The process was interrupted between 12:30 noon to 4:30 pm. As of now, there is a variation in the fees among the university affiliated colleges. The parents of the students, who were present for the counselling, supported the protest.

VVR for probe into war crimes in Lanka

Nellore, July 5: Revolutionary writer and APCLC leader Varavara Rao urged the International Civil Society (ICS) and the United Nations to conduct an independent and impartial probe into war crimes in Srilanka.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Monday, Rao who was here to participate in the district-level convention of ‘Revolutionary Writers’ Association (RWA)’, alleged that at the behest of the Srilankan government, the army personnel perpetuated many atrocities on innocent civilians during the civil war and only a probe instituted by the UN could bring to light the crimes.

KCR, Vijay Shanti resign from LS membership

Hyderabad, July 5: The Telangana movement today gathered further steam with TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao and party MP Vijay Shanthi resigning from their Lok Sabha membership in support of the demand for a separate state.
Chadrasekhar Rao and Shanthi faxed their resignation letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker. Rao would meet the Speaker personally in a day or two, TRS sources said.
State Textiles Minister Shankar Rao, who is in the US, has also faxed his resignation to the Deputy Speaker, taking the total number of state ministers who have quit to 12.

All eyes on Rajahmundry central jail land

Rajahmundry, July 5: Will the five-century-old central jail remain in the city or will it be shifted to some other place? It is the question doing rounds in the city.
Some ruling Congress leaders have urged the state government to shift the central jail from the heart of the city. But the prisons department is against the proposal.
Earlier, the director general of prisons had made it clear that there was no move to shift the central jail.

Life paralysed as Telangana shutdown begins

Hyderabad, July 5: Life came to a standstill across Andhra Pradesh’s Telangana region Tuesday as a two-day shutdown called by the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) evoked total response in Hyderabad and nine other districts.
Hundreds of commuters were stranded as public transport went off the roads. Shops, business establishments and educational institutions were closed to press the central government to table a bill in parliament to carve out a separate state of Telangana.
Barring minor incidents, the shutdown was peaceful till afternoon, police said.

33 Husbands went Lebanon not Umrah, will get divorce

Manama, July 05: More than 30 Kuwaiti women have filed for divorce after they discovered that their husbands spent the New Year’s Eve in Lebanon while claiming they were performing Umrah in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, a Kuwaiti lawyer said.

“Many husbands cause the end of their marriages by cheating and lying to their wives,” Abdullah Al Shibani said.

Farooq Husain refuses to resign, claims to be T supporter

Hyderabad, July 5: Congress MLC Mr. Mohammad Farooq Husain has claimed to be Telangana supporter but refused to resign and strongly criticized Dr. Keshav Rao for targeting Ghulam Nabi Azad.

Mr. Farooq Husain reiterated that he is Telangana supporter but will not resign because there won’t be by-elections after members of Rajya Sabha and council resign, as there would be by-elections if members of parliament and assembly resign.

Rahul’s padyatra a political drama: BJP

New Delhi, July 05: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday termed Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s ‘padyatra’ in Bhatta-Parsaul village of Uttar Pradesh to raise awareness about land acquisition as a “political drama”.

“It is nothing more than a political drama and a political stunt,” BJP leader Rajnath Singh told reporters.

The BJP leader said the condition of farmers will not improve unless the Land Acquisition (Amendment) Bill is passed, which is in the hands of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government led by Congress.

Quit or face action, Telangana activists tell MLAs

Hyderabad, July 05: Groups pressing for a separate state of Telangana have stepped up pressure on MPs, ministers and legislators from the region who have not yet resigned.

Activists of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), the Joint Action Committee (JAC) as well as students Tuesday laid siege to the houses of such leaders, demanding that they resign immediately.

The TRS and JAC have described them as “traitors”.

There was tension in Malkajgiri on the outskirts of Hyderabad as protesters laid siege to the house of Congress legislator Akula Rajender demanding that he resign.

‘Kidnappings for ransom a lucrative business in Pakistan’

Islamabad, July 05: Abductions for ransom have become a lucrative business in Pakistan, said a leading daily Monday and observed that the nexus between terrorists and traditional kidnappers is something the state has to fight.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik had told the National Assembly that 15,365 incidents of kidnappings took place in the country last year.

Of them, 13,497 took place in Punjab, 1,293 in Sindh, 273 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 250 in Balochistan and 52 in Islamabad.

King wants JOBS for all graduates

Jeddah, July 05: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah instructed the private and public sectors in the Kingdom to provide more employment opportunities to all graduates and other employment seekers.

The king also congratulated graduates of all levels of education in the country in the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah on Monday.

In the meeting, the king called on the Arab countries that are currently passing through political disturbances to give priority to national security and stability and avoid bloodshed.

New Delhi, July 05: Forced to live away from India, M.F. Husain at one time wanted to destroy all his paintings, says his son Owais Husain who is hungering to conquer the wasteland of possibilities left behind by his illustrious father.

“I feel suddenly in life there is a wasteland in front of me, but the wasteland is rich, inspiring a hunger in me to devour the wasteland. I am ready, actually I am doing that,” Owais Husain, who is making a documentary on his father, told IANS here.

Girl child Scholarships by Science Olympiad Foundation

Hyderabad, July 05: Executive Director of Science Olympiad Foundation, Mr. Mahabir Singh announced that the foundation will select 75 girl students on the basis of a competitive examination for the award of an educational scholarship of the value of Rs. 18,000 per annum. Minority Scholarship application submission last date is 31st July

Hyderabad, July 05: Managing Director, A.P. State Minorities Financial Corporation had issued a press note on 21st May informing the eligible students to register their scholarship applications online before 31st July but so far very few students have filed their applications.

He requested the students to register their applications online on the website www.apsmfc.com before 31st July 2011. There won’t be any extension in the last date. Income certificate issued after 10th October 2010 will be valid.
