SC refuses copy of Jaffri killing report to Gujarat

New Delhi, July 29: The Supreme Court on Thursday refused Gujarat government’s plea to give it a copy of the report on the alleged role of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the killing of Congress MP Ehsan Jaffri, during the post Godhra-riots, in Ahmedabad, in 2002.

The report has been prepared by a senior advocate, who examined Modi and others alleged involvement in Jaffri’s killing.

26/11 trial in Pak has `not moved at all`: Pillai

New Delhi, July 29: The 26/11 trial in Pakistan has “not moved at all” and faster action by it would have been welcomed by India, former Home Secretary GK Pillai said on Thursday.

“We would welcome a much faster action on the 26/11 trial. It has not moved at all. It is a big concern,” Pillai, who retired recently, said here.

Pillai’s statement came a day after Pakistan Foreign Minister Hina Rabbanai Khar said that judicial processes take time and it was in her country’s interest that the trial is completed quickly.

Kasab moves Supreme Court, challenging death penalty

New Delhi, July 29: Gunman Ajmal Kasab has moved the Supreme Court challenging the Bombay High Court judgment confirming the death sentence slapped on him by a trial court for his role in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

As Kasab filed the appeal directly through jail authorities, who sent it to the Supreme Court Secretary-General, details are not known. Once the appeal against the February 21 judgment is processed and numbered by the Registry, the Supreme Court will list it for hearing.

Hyderabad, July 29: Minor Irrigation Minister T G Venkatesh on Thursday stated that the state should be divided into three parts in the event of bifurcation of state necessitated.

Give T or employees’ unions will paralyse Telangana: Kodandaram

New Delhi, July 29: Telangana Political Joint Action Committee chairman M Kodandaram on Thursday issued an ultimatum to the Centre that all employees unions would paralyse life in Telangana if a decision on separate Telangana statehood demand is not made and the employees’ demands are not met.

Prof Kodandaram told media persons here that all the unions are supporting the employees’ strike beginning from August 17 demanding formation of separate state and to rectify the injustice meted out to them in the region.

Abducted British girl spotted in India?

London, July 28: A four-year-old British girl, who was allegedly kidnapped while on a holiday in Portugal in 2007, has reportedly been tracked down to Leh city in India’s Jammu and Kashmir state.

The parents of Madeleine McCann are, however, awaiting the results of a DNA test after a girl suspected to be the missing child was spotted in Leh, the Daily Mail reported.

Kate and Gerry McCann’s team of private investigators said they were working with Leh police who were alerted after a British woman spotted a girl she thought to be Madeleine. The abducted girl would now be eight years old.

Mumbai, July 28: Shiv Sena’s executive president Uddhav Thackeray has called for a Mumbai bandh on August 1 if the mill worker issue is not resolved by then. However, his estranged cousin and Maharashtra Navnirman Senja (MNS) party leader, Raj Thackeray is opposed to the idea.

”The issue should be sorted out in Vidhan Bhavan. Mumbaikars will face problems because of the bandh,” said Raj.
