Reduced work hours for non-Muslims also: Ministry of Labour

Dubai, July 29: The Ministry of Labour in the UAE said that reduced work hours during Ramadan are for all regardless of their religion and warned companies not to violate the law by forcing non-Muslim employees to work normal eight hours, media report said on Friday.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Labour issued a circular reducing working hours for private sector to six from eight during the holy month of Ramadan – which is expected to begin on August 1.

I didn’t got any help from Embassy: Shabana

Hyderabad, July 29: A woman who was seriously injured while escaping her sponsor in Saudi Arabia has managed to return to India with great difficulty.

Ms Shabana Begum from Hyderabad, who suffered injuries to her spinal cord, complained that she was not provided any help from the Indian Embassy authorities.

Ms Shabana, who could not sit properly due to her recent operation in Saudi Arabia, also had to spend an agonising 12 hours at the Dubai Airport.

Adhar card for Cherlapally jail prisoners

Hyderabad, July 29: This may be the first time in the history of India that prisoners of Cherlapally jail will be allotted Unique Identity Number (UID) under Adhar card project. Jail sources said that Adhar enrollment centres would be set up in all jails of the state so that prisoners are provided UID facility. Deputy Director General and Joint Secretary Planning of UID authority of India, Mr. V S Bhaskar told that Andhra Pradesh would be the first state to provide Adhar card to the prisoners besides physically challenged persons and persons suffering from leprosy.

Painter held for stealing 75 tola gold

Hyderabad, July 29: A person from Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh allegedly involved in robbing 75 tola gold from a widow was arrested by police on Thursday and 25 tola gold recovered from him. 

Police said Amjad, a painter from Uttar Pradesh, had been hired by a 77-year-old widow Jeevakireetam for repainting her house at Innovation Apartments in June.

Notices to 670 buildings without parking space

Hyderabad, July 29: After bulldozing illegal encroachments from road margins, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is going to launch another demolition drive in early August, against commercial and shopping complexes and multi-storied buildings for violation of parking norms.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, GHMC commissioner MT Krishna Babu said notices have been slapped against 670 building owners to restore area earmarked for parking purposes within a week.

Girls arrested over liplock

Kuala Lampur, July 29: Two teenage Muslim girls have been arrested by Malaysian Islamic officials for hugging and kissing each other publicly in Tawau town, Sabah.

The girls aged 16 and 17 were detained during an integrated operation by the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department together with the Tawau Municipal Council on Tuesday.

The department’s officer Abdul Imam Basiron said the two girls faced charges under the Islamic Shariah Criminal Offences Enactment that carries a maximum fine of 15,000 rupees or jail of up to six months or both upon conviction.

15 Scholarship application submission date – extension inevitable. Website overloaded.

Hyderabad, July 29: The website of A.P. State Minorities Finance Corporation www.apsmfc.com is overloaded due to rush of applications that are being submitted and often it fails.

Now that there are only three days remaining for the online submission of applications for getting scholarships, extension of last date seems to be inevitable as a lot of students have to register their applications.

Parents have requested the Minister for Minorities Welfare and the other authorities concerned to extend the last date at least by days.

Sadiq Batcha case: Possibility that suicide note was forged, say CBI

New Delhi, July 29: The CBI sources have said that there is a possibility that Sadiq Batch’s suicide note has been forged adding that it has been sent for forensic examination.

Mr Batcha, who was being interrogated by the CBI in connection with the 2G spectrum scam, was found hanging in his home in Chennai two months ago. He was a close aide of former telecom minister A Raja who is in Tihar Jail in connection with the scam.

In his note, Mr Batcha wrote that he blamed nobody for his death, but that he was embarrassed by “raids and media limelight over the 2G spectrum scam.”
