SR100,000 fine for violators of new marriage law

Riyadh, June 28: The Shoura Council said a fine of up to SR100,000 will be imposed on Saudis who violate the regulations of the proposed marriage law that would allow Saudis to marry foreigners.

The bill was approved Monday at the council’s session chaired by Vice Chairman Bandar bin Mohammed Hamzah Hajjar.

The draft marriage law prepared by a special committee appointed by the council contained 13 articles that outlined the social, cultural, environmental and religious impact on Saudi men marrying non-Saudi women and Saudi women marrying non–Saudis.

Junior College principal caught taking bribe

Hyderabad, June 28: The principal of Government Junior College for Boys, Pedapally in Karimnagar district, C Srinivasa Raju was caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau officials when he accepted a bribe of Rs 50,000 on Monday.

The accused official accepted the bribe through a contract lecturer in commerce, A Sampath Rao.

Raju demanded the bribe for doing an official favour of initiating renewal proposals of the complainant and another person S Rajendra Prasad, for the academic year 2011-12.

Women-only cinema in Middle East

Doha: A Qatar sports centre says it plans a women-only cinema that would be the latest no-men-allowed venture in the Gulf.

The Aspire Zone Foundation says the 154-seat movie theatre will open on Thursday in a section of the government-backed sports complex reserved for women’s events.

An extra film will be screened on Saturday for children who will have to be accompanied by a female relative.

Films to be screened will be known two weeks in advance. However, the presentation schedule will change according to the popularity of a particular film.

Obaid murder solved, four held

Hyderabad, June 28: Four days after the murder of Md Shamshamuddin alias Obaid near the Kacheguda police station, police on Monday arrested four persons.

The accused are Syed Abrar Hussain, a driver, Mohd Waheed, a private employee, Mohd Ibrahim, an auto-driver from Kachiguda and Syed Akthar, an auto-driver from Amberpet.

At a press conference on Monday, East Zone DCP Y Gangadhar said that Obaid was married to Omera in 2008 and later divorced. Later he married Asra Begum though the latter’s parents and brother did not accept her marriage.

RTC likely to hike bus fares

Hyderabad, June 28: With steep hike in diesel prices, increase in RTC fares looks imminent as it appears to be last resort for the state government. The hike would be in such a way that it would not have a major impact on the common man, transport minister Botcha Satyanarayana has said.

Satyanarayana and civil supplies minister D Sridhar Babu met chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy requesting him to increase the subsidy on LPG cylinders.

Congress MP’s niece killed for dowry

Hyderabad, June 28: Mayuri Yadav, 25, niece of Secunderabad Congress MP Anjan Kumar Yadav was found burnt to death in her house in Hyderabad, allegedly for dowry. Her charred body was found by neighbours and relatives, who then alerted the police. While Mayuri’s father is accusing her in-laws of harassing her they say she committed suicide.

Victim’s Sister-in-Law Kamati Yadav said, “We have not done anything. She had an argument with her husband over attending a family function. She was upset. She went inside her room and set herself ablaze.”

RTC bus fare hike subject to CM’s counsel

Hyderabad, June 28: Transport minister and president Congress committee Mr. B Satyanarayana said that decision will be taken regarding fare hike of RTC buses with in two three days after confronting with the chief minister and high officials. He said he will consult chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy regarding cut in tax levied on diesel. Managing director APSRTC, Mr. Prasad Rao met transport minister and president Congress committee Mr. B Satyanarayana yesterday morning. He proposed hike in bus fare in order to lessen the burden imposed on RTC as a result of diesel price hike.

Bridgetown, June 28: India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said that he was blessed to have a good squad of players around him, making it easier for him to lead the national side.

Dhoni became India’s second most successful Test captain, winning his 15th match in the first Test by 63 runs at Sabina Park in Jamaica to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

AP govt seeks report from Sathya Sai Trust
