Warangal, June 01: In an act of mob justice, a youth was burnt alive by angry villagers right in the presence of cops after he allegedly raped a girl.

The girl, who initially resisted the attempts of the accused, is battling for her life after the youth hit her with a hammer on her head. This macabre incident took place in Raghunathapally in Zaffargadh mandal of Warangal district on Tuesday.

Sleep deprived children likelier to be bullies

Washington, June 01: Urban children who are bullies or have conduct problems at school are more likely to have sleep-disordered breathing or daytime sleepiness, which may play a role in their aggressive behaviour, according to a new research.

Researchers looked at elementary school students who had exhibited conduct problems like bullying or discipline referrals and found that there was a two-fold higher risk for symptoms of sleep-disordered breathing, particularly daytime sleepiness among these students.

According to the sources, a two-member team from the CVC camped at Corporation Bank’s headquarters May 9-14 to probe the complaint and senior bank officials deposed before it.

Partial solar eclipse to be visible today midnight

New Delhi, June 01: A partial solar eclipse will be seen in Siberia and northern China today but the sky gazers in the country will be a disappointed lot as it will be midnight here.

The partial solar eclipse will be seen at sunrise in Siberia and northern China when the penumbral (lighter outer shadow of earth) first touches earth at 00.55 am IST, Apoorva Malhotra of Space Technology Education Private Limited told PTI.

This eclipse will not be visible in India, he said, adding, observers in eastern Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina will witness it.

Indian astronaut to walk on Moon in 2025

Bangalore, June 01: Former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Wednesday hoped an Indian astronaut would walk on the Moon in 2025 and on Mars by 2035.

“I believe an Indian astronaut will walk on the Moon in 2025 and on Mars by 2035. The Indian space agency should attempt to put an Indian on Moon and Mars between 2025 and 2035,” Kalam said at a function here.

Afridi urges Zardari

Supreme Court reserves verdict on Dinakaran’s petition

New Delhi, June 01: The Supreme Court Wednesday reserved its verdict on a petition by Sikkim High Court Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran challenging the framing of charges by the Judges Inquiry Committee (JIC) probing allegations of corruption, land grabbing, disproportionate assets and misbehaviour against him.

Justice Dinakaran has contented that the JIC has framed the charges beyond the scope of its jurisdiction.

Helicopter crash kills 4 in Pakistan

Islamabad, June 01: Officials say the helicopter was carrying four personnel — including the head of the provincial paramilitary force when it crashed into the Indus River, a Press TV correspondent reported on Wednesday.

A local police officer says it caught fire in mid-air and plunged into the river.

A rescue team has recovered one body from the wreckage but was not able to identify it.

The exact cause of the crash is being investigated. The helicopter was reportedly flying in bad weather and went down in a dust storm when visibility was poor.

New Delhi, June 01: Government today said no decision has been taken on its joining a lawsuit in New York filed by victims of 26/11 terror attack suing Pakistan”s spy agency ISI and LeT founder Hafiz Saeed for their involvement in the incident.

“No decision has been taken. I think there are advantages and disadvantages…No decision has been taken on that,” Home Minister P Chidambaram told reporters while noting that recently the Home Secretary G K Pillai had indicated that a decision to join a lawsuit would be a “political call”.

Kuwait city, June 01: A European man plunged to his death from the sixth level in Kuwait while trying to climb to his girl friend’s apartment after she rebuffed him, a newspaper in the oil-rich Gulf emirate reported on Wednesday.

The unidentified man, on a visit to Kuwait City, had a relationship with the European woman before she decided to dump him following an argument, the Arabic language daily Alanba said.

“He tried to reach her by mobile phone but she did not answer his calls and messages…he went to the door but she did not open,” the paper said.

Blasts rock Tripoli as NATO extends campaign

Tripoli, June 01: Powerful explosions rocked Tripoli as NATO on Wednesday pressed its air war amid Libyan charges it has killed 718 civilians and reports that British ex-special forces soldiers are advising the rebels.

NATO allies today agreed to extend the campaign in Libya for another 90 days, prolonging the mission until late September, the alliance said.

“NATO and partners have just decided to extend our mission for Libya for another 90 days,” said NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

Street battles in Yemeni capital leave 41 dead

Sanaa, June 01: Yemeni medical officials say at least 41 people have been killed in overnight shelling and street battles between government forces and rival tribal fighters in the capital.

Witnesses say that in addition to street fighting, Presidential Guard units shelled the headquarters of a brigade responsible for guarding sensitive government institutions. Army officers who have defected to the opposition say the government suspected the brigade commander was about to join the movement to oust President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Actress held for attempted prostitution

Bangalore, June 01: A 29-year-old actress has been taken into custody on the charge of attempted prostitution, police said.

She had acted in two Kannada films and three television serials, police said. The name of the actress, who was detained yesterday, was not provided by the police.

A 40-year-old woman, a pimp, who had acted in two teleserials, and two men were also taken into custody, police said.

The trio was detained when they came to a hotel along with the actress for allegedly helping her indulge in prostitution, police added.
