CBI gives clean chit to Tata in 2G scam?

New Delhi, June 02: In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI gave a virtual clean chit to the Tata Group, saying that it did not in any way gain from the colossal 2G spectrum scam, reports claimed Thursday.

Deposing before a court here, the investigating agency said that no irregularities have been found in issuing licenses to Tata and it was done as per Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) norms.

Hasan Ali’s custody extended till June 7

Mumbai, June 02: A court here Thursday extended till June 7 the judicial custody of Hasan Ali, allgedly the country’s top tax evader and money launderer.

“Principal Sessions Judge Sapna Joshi extended his custody till June 7 and will hear his bail plea also on the same day,” Khan’s lawyer I.P. Bagaria told IANS.

Khan was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) March 17 after the Supreme Court cancelled his bail granted by a trial court.

Beijing, June 02: In a bizzare incident, a 62-year old male Chinese nurse has been held on the suspicion of abusing patients and forcing them to drink urine , Police said.

Zheng Huanming, the nurse at the Changleyuan Seniors Home in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan province, allegedly woke up elderly people at 4 a.m. every day and forced some of them to drink “yellow liquid” from plastic bags, which a witness claimed was urine, the Yangtze Evening News reported.

TDP to move no-trust motion against Andhra government

Hyderabad, June 02: The main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Andhra Pradesh Thursday decided to move no-confidence motion against the state’s Congress government.

TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu told reporters that the party would give notice for the no-confidence motion to Deputy Speaker N. Manohar.

Stating that the motion is being moved on problems faced by farmers, Naidu said his party is ready for any situation, including elections to the state assembly.

The former chief minister said the government has lost the confidence of people.

CM breaks silence on Telangana

Hyderabad, June 02: Chief Minister Kirankumar Reddy who maintains stoic silence on the Telangana issue, has expressed his opinion in an interview to a newspaper.

He said consensus was not possible among all the people of AP on Telangana. Stating that he was of the opinion that the issue should be resolved one way or the other quickly, he said this was the opinion of people of all the regions of the state.

He said even if the TDP does not attend the All Party meeting being called by the Centre on the issue, the government would do what it should.

Saba Anjum to lead India in Champions Challenge hockey

New Delhi, June 02: Saba Anjum will lead the Indian team for the FIH Champions Challenge-I tournament June 18-26 in Dublin, Ireland.

India have been drawn in Pool B with Spain, Azerbaijan and hosts Ireland. Japan, South Africa, the United States and Scotland comprise Pool A.

The Indian team qualified for this tournament after winning the FIH Champions Challenge-II at Kazan, Russia, in 2009.

India will begin their campaign against Irelend June 18.

JNU Professor is New VC of Hyderabad University

Hyderabad, June 02: Professor Ramakrishna Ramaswamy assumed charge as the new vice-chancellor of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) on Wednesday. He is a professor in the School of Physical Sciences and the Centre for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics at the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. He succeeds Syed Hasnain, whose term ended on April 1.

TDP leaders gheraoed by OUJAC students

Hyderabad, June 2: TDP MLAs had to face the wrath of Osmania University Joint Action Committee students on Wednesday. Students of Osmania University gheraoed TDP members E Dayakar Rao, Ms Seethakka and Mr Mothkupalli Narasimhulu at the Bhoiguda Railway Court in Secunderabad and raised Jai Telangana slogans.

TDP MLAs had come to the Court in connection with a case registered against them.

Interestingly, the students left the estranged TDP senior legislator, Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy, who was suspended by the party recently on the charge of rebellious.

Hyderabad, June 2: State governor Mr E S L Narsimhan accepted the resignation letter submitted by Mr. J Krishna Rao who resigned from the post of Endowment ministry. Following the acceptance of minister’s resignation the Governor handed over the additional responsibility of the Endowments Department to Minister for Information Technology Ponnala Lakshmaiah.
State governor sources informed this on Wednesday night and said that Mr Krishna Rao had on Tuesday met the Governor and submitted his resignation.

Saudi woman raped by driver

Jeddah, June 02: A Saudi businesswoman, forced by law to hire a male driver, has accused her chauffeur of raping her, a newspaper reported amid a growing campaign to allow women to drive themselves.

The daily Okaz said the driver stopped the car in an industrial part of the holy western city of Medina and raped her while threatening to shoot her with his pistol.

The woman, who was not named, reported the attack and the driver, whose nationality was not given, was arrested.

Virginity tests in Egypt sparks furore

Cairo, June 02: Egyptian activists are demanding an investigation into ‘virginity tests’ conducted on women protesters arrested by the country’s military rulers.

A senior military official has admitted that women arrested at a peaceful protest were strip searched on camera and subjected to a degrading examination by soldiers. But he tried to defend the process, to condemnation from the youth protest movement, which has heavily criticised military control of the country since president Hosni Mubarak was forced to step down in February.

23 Pakistani troops die in border attack

Peshawar, June 02: Police say militants from Afghanistan have killed at least 23 Pakistani security troops in a clash that is still going on a day after the incursion.

The attack began Wednesday in Shaltalo town in Upper Dir district, after some 200 militants crossed the leaky border.

Police official Johar Khan says three security forces have also been wounded. Khan said on Thursday that the militants are believed to have suffered significant casualties as well.

Bangalore, June 02: Two actresses from the city were arrested by the narcotics wing of the Central Crime Branch for soliciting customers for prostitution.

Suma (29), a resident of Nagarabhavi, who has appeared in several Kannada movies and serials, was arrested along with cine actress Lakshmi, who ran the racket.

Based on a tip off, a police team raided a hotel on West of Chord Road and arrested the duo and two other pimps red-handed. Suma has worked in movies like Sandalwood and Arbhata in supporting roles, and was being paid Rs 20,000 by Lakshmi every day to entertain clients.

8 special trains to Jaipur for Urs-e-Shareef

Hyderabad, June 02: The South Central Railways is running eight special trains to Jaipur for pilgrims attending annual Urs-e-Shareef of Hazrat Khaza Moinuddin Chisti at Ajmer from Hyderabad, Ongole and Machilipatnam. ?

Hyderabad-Jaipur Special Train will depart from Hyderabad at 8.30 pm on June 3. In the return direction the train which will originate from Ajmer will depart from Ajmer at 6.15 pm on June 10.
