New Delhi, June 03: In Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party has not just one, but three political enemies. And it has to fight the election battle in this crucial State next year before it prepares for the bigger challenge in Lok Sabha elections in 2014.

Party leaders agree that if the BJP fails to make a mark and reverse its electoral fortunes in U.P., it may as well forget the 2014 battle.

Sex addiction is a psychiatric disorder

London, June 03: Sex addiction is about to become formally recognised as a psychiatric illness.

Experts are considering including the ‘addiction’, in which sufferers have relentless sexual urges that feel out of one’s control, in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, reports the Daily Mail .

The American Psychiatric Association (APA) publishes the manual, which is considered the definitive guide to what constitutes a genuine psychological disorder rather than an imaginary one.

First phase of Eamcet engineering counselling to be held in 15 days

yderabad, June 03: The first phase of Eamcet engineering counselling will be concluded in 15 days.

The government has decided to reduce the web-based counselling period by half to start classes for engineering first year students from August 1.

Earlier, the classes used to begin in November due to delayed counselling.

This often resulted in poor pass percentage in first year engineering exams, which stood at less than 20 per cent.

2 Hyderabad students bags the top ranks of ICET-2011

Hyderabad, June 03: Two Hyderabad students bagged the top ranks of ICET-2011, the results for which were announced here on Thursday.

Releasing the results, ICET chairman and vice chancellor of Andhra University, Prof. Beela Satyanarayana, said Mr Pradeep Reddy got the first rank by scoring 185 out of 200 marks.

Mr N. Aditya Kiran Nori also scored 185. Mr O. Anirudha Asish of Vijayawada scored 183 and bagged the third rank.

Among the women, Ms K. Lavanya of Vijayawada bagged the top rank by scoring 179 out of 200. The test was conducted on May 18.

Girls sweep Bihar madrassa board results

Patna, June 03: Girls have created history by securing top ranks in Class 10 examination conducted by the Bihar Madrassa Education Board, officials here said.

Nasra Khatoon, of Dakhi village of Madhubani district, has secured the first rank in Class 10 (Fauquania) level examination and Umme Eman of Baunsi village of the same district has bagged the second rank, a board official aid after the results were declared Wednesday.

Maulana Ajaj Ahmad, chairman of the Madrassa Education Board of Bihar, told IANS here that these girls have made a new beginning.

Woman forced to travel to Lahore to carry last rites of her sister

New Delhi, June 03: With the Union Home Ministry maintaining a tight lid on visitors from Pakistan, a septuagenarian woman will be forced to travel to Lahore, despite her age, to carry out the last rites of her sister who ironically died in India last year.

This is the story of three sisters of the Dheer family. The eldest, Santosh, got married to a Lahore lawyer. The others, Mavel and Shanno, stayed behind in India. Mavel and Shanno lost their husbands early, while Santosh and her husband were murdered in Lahore in 1981. They left behind a son, Harsh Mehra.

Baba Ramdev’s hunger strike begins tomorrow

New Delhi, June 03: Till now there is no compromise reached between the Centre and Baba Ramdev. Ramdev’s camp has stepped up its preparedness for the hunger strike which begins tomorrow. Ramlila ground, situated in Delhi, wore a festive atmosphere as Baba disciples assembled from all over the country.

Support for Ramdev, 46, has come from all quarters, from Anna Hazare to Shabana Azmi to spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

Meanwhile, Anna Hazare has cautioned the Baba against “government tactics”.

A 250 km walk for drug abuse awareness

Muscat, June 03: In a bid to create awarness about drug abuse in the country, two young Omani nationals have walked for around 250 km.

Khamis al Hatali and Helmi al Kindy were supported in their endeavour by the Al Hayat Association, an NGO that works in the field of psychological healthcare for drug and psychotropic substance addicts, Oman’s The Week newspaper reported.

Khamis is an experienced walker having undertaken several such activities in the past.

Australia mulls jail time for match fixers

Sydney, June 03: Australia on Friday said it was looking to introduce national laws that would allow for heavy jail terms for match-fixing, as it seeks to stamp out the risk of corruption in sporting contests.

Sports Minister Mark Arbib will meet with officials next week to discuss the possibility of introducing laws for those manipulating the outcome of sporting events for gain.

“We know from looking at the international experience, the threat that match fixing has on our sports,” Arbib told ABC Radio.

Urdu binds Hindu girls with Bihar MADRASAS

Patna, June 03: Non-Muslim girls, mostly Hindus, are taking to madarsa education in Bihar these days. Many of them have done exceedingly well in the Urdu- medium examinations this year.

Thirty students in the Fauqania ( equivalent to matriculation) and sixteen students in the Maulvi ( intermediate), who have topped the examinations, belong to non- Muslim communities.

Fake eyewitness seeks pardon from nation

Islamabad, June 03: The man who made sensational claims about the PNS Mehran base attack has turned out to be a disparate lover who fabricated the story just to revenge his failure in marrying a sister of an army man. Muhammad Junaid in an interview with Waqt News confessed that he had nothing to do with the Karachi naval base attack. “I am not a witness to it and totally unaware of the facts about it,” he said.

Junaid had claimed in a programme of a private TV that some army men were involved in the attack on Mehran naval base in Karachi.

Walled Al-Maliki, a customer, said: “The fluctuation in the prices of consumer products makes it impossible for any bread winner to draw up a precise budget because there are ups and downs in the prices of essential commodities.” He said he has tried to buy different brands of these essential items, but the prices are just as high.

RSS orders: Join Ramdev Lila

New Delhi, June 03: The Congress-led UPA is on bended knee trying to placate Swami Ramdev in the run-up to his fast but it’s the Sangh Parivar, specifically the RSS, that could hold the cards.

On May 27, eight days before the scheduled start of the fast on June 4, a written circular, signed by RSS general secretary Bhaiyyaji Joshi, went out to provincial organisers. The note specifically asked them to instruct swayamsevaks to support and participate in Ramdev’s programme — those who could not go to New Delhi would participate at the district level, was the message.

Mumbai, June 03: FED up with his wife’s alleged inability to fulfil his sexual desires, a monster dad from Bandra turned to his 18-year-old daughter for gratification.

What began as a series of molestation attempts close to a year ago eventually led to the man raping his daughter at knifepoint and driving her to attempt suicide all this, while the mother remained a mute spectator.

Bridge planned across the Secret Lake in Jubilee Hills

Hyderabad, June 03: The government has proposed to build a suspension bridge across the Secret Lake (Durgam Cheruvu) in Jubilee Hills.

The bridge is yet another attraction in addition to the proposed ropeway.

The Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, on Thursday agreed to sanction Rs 40 crore for the bridge, which is likely to become a major tourist attraction.

The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation proposed the bridge, which is designed to reduce the traffic congestion on the Jubilee Hills and Madhapur roads.

Manama, June 03: Bahrain’s security forces are increasingly targeting women in their campaign against prodemocracy protesters despite Wednesday’s lifting martial law in the island kingdom.

Ayat al-Gormezi , 20, a poet and student arrested two months ago after reading out a poem at a prodemocracy rally, is due to go on trial before a military tribunal , her mother said.

Thailand visa centre in city

Hyderabad, June 03: The fifth visa application centre of the Thai consulate in India was inaugurated on Thursday by the Royal Thai Consulate General of Chennai, Chanchai Charanvatnakit.

The visa application centre set up by the consular services company VFS Global will be functional from June 6 at Green Lands, Ameerpet.

Tourists to Thailand will be able to file their visa applications from Hyderabad instead of Chennai consulate and the service aims to process applications within three working days.

However, the visa-on-arrival facility for tourists will continue as before.
