Woman takes away safe under skirt

London, June 04: A woman in Britain managed to walk out of a shop while carrying a safe under her skirt in a 30,000-pound (about $49,000) theft.

Five other members of the Asian gang distracted the staff as she got into a private area of the shop. CCTV shows her entering wearing long trousers and leaving in a long skirt, The Mirror reported Friday.

Police said: “She was struggling to walk with the safe between her legs.” It held thousands of pounds in cash and heavy gold jewellery.

BJP keeps Ayodhya temple issue out of political agenda

Lucknow, June 04: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to keep the Ayodhya temple issue out of its political agenda.

Hundreds of Taliban fighters attack northwest Pak

Islamabad, June 04: Hundreds of Taliban fighters on Friday carried out fresh attacks in a remote area in northwest Pakistan bordering Afghanistan though security forces claimed to have regained control of the region after fierce fighting that killed nearly 80 people, including 28 troops.

The militants, who sneaked into Upper Dir district from Afghanistan on Wednesday, destroyed eight schools as skirmishes between the rebels and security forces continued for the third day on Friday.

Considering nationalising black money: Govt to Ramdev

New Delhi, June 04: After failing to stop Baba Ramdev from going ahead with his mass hunger strike against corruption in India, the government Friday night assured him that it was considering to declare as “national asset” the black money stashed in foreign banks – a key demand the yoga guru has raised.

In a late evening press statement following a failed marathon meeting between senior ministers and Ramdev, the government said a committee was already in place to suggest how to strengthen existing laws relating to black money.

Mumbai, June 04: Bollywood star Salman Khan wants to show “Chillar Party”, his first venture under his banner Salman Khan Being Human Productions, to Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni.

“I want to show this film to Ambika Soni to make it tax free. Let’s see if that happens,” Salman told reporters here Friday night.

The actor had come to launch the first promo of the film that will release July 8 and is his co-production with UTV. It has been helmed by first-time directors Nitesh Tiwari and Vikas Bahl.

The Gujarat government today said that Congress was trying to spread a “charter of lies” against Chief Minister Narendra Modi to tarnish his clean and transparent image.

Muslim bodies protest alleged demolition of a mosque

New Delhi, Jun 03: A group of representatives of prominent Muslim bodies demonstrated near the Prime Minister’s residence today to protest against the alleged demolition of a mosque and madrassa near the President’s estate.

Unhappy over what they claimed was a demolition without any notice or warning, the group staged a dharna, asking the Prime Minister to address their concerns.

The mosque and the madrassa, they said, was located less than a kilometre away from the President estate’s stable and was brought down three days back without any notice.

Iraq mosque blast

Baghdad, June 03: At least 19 people, including some high-ranking local officials, were killed and 54 injured in a blast at a mosque in Iraq’s Tikrit city, Xinhua quoted local police sources as saying.

The bomb went off as worshippers came out of the mosque after prayers. Located in the well-known Presidential Palace site, the mosque was frequented by local officials.

There were conflicting accounts of whether the explosion was caused by a suicide bomber or a bomb.

TDP to submit fresh notice for no-trust motion

Agra, June 03: Veteran actor and Congress MP from Firozabad Raj Babbar and RLD leader Jayant Chaudhary were detained by Agra Police today to prevent them from visiting Korai village where a clash had taken place between the villagers and police.

The two leaders were arrested by the Agra District police as they crossed over from Mathura District to proceed to the village.

DIG Asim Arun said the two leaders were taken into protective custody to prevent them from going to the sensitive area.

Chennai, June 03: The Karnataka State secretary of the AIADMK has submitted a complaint to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Egmore, seeking to punish actor Kushboo for allegedly making a defamatory statement against him.

Va.Pugazhendi of Arumbakkam stated that his party won the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections with a thumping majority. He had worked for the AIADMK’s victory.
