BJP, RSS remote controlling Ramdev: Congress

New Delhi, June 04:Even as the government continued its talks with Baba Ramdev on his fast against graft and black money, the Congress Saturday alleged that the movement was being “remote controlled” by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

“It is unfortunate that a mass movement against corruption…is being remote controlled by some organisations and parties, whether it is RSS or BJP,” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singvi told reporters.

“What was Sadhvi Ritambhara doing there?” he asked, referring to the Hindu right-wing leader.

Pro-Telangana leaders meet, agitation to be stepped up in July

Hyderabad, Jun 04:The Telangana Rashtra Samithi today indicated that the agitation for the separate Telangana state would be stepped up in July.

Leaders of TRS and other pro-Telangana organisations held a meeting here, which was chaired by TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao. The participants decided to meet again on June 7 to finalise the agitation programmes, to be taken up next month.

TRS sources said a massive agitation, on the lines of the Million March here in March this year, was being planned.

Modi attacks Sonia Gandhi-led NAC on communal violence bill

Lucknow, June 04:Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today accused the Sonia Gandhi-led NAC of drafting a “perverse” and “ill-conceived” bill to tackle communal violence which, he claimed, portrays that the majority
community is “always the perpetrator”.

Moving a resolution at the BJP National Executive Meet here, Modi also accused the UPA government of posing a grave threat to the federal structure of the country by making “hostile, insidious and politically colorable” attacks on opposition-ruled states.

Teen wife killed by 62-year-old husband’s gun

Jazan, June 04: An 18-year-old Saudi woman died after she was shot by a gun owned by her 62-year-old husband and police are investigating whether it was suicide, a newspaper reported on Saturday.

Police rushed the unnamed women to hospital but she died on arrival, Almadina said in a report from the southern province of Jazan.

“Police found that the gun belongs to the victim’s husband…they are investigating whether it was suicide or she was shot by some one else.”

Minor accuses father, three others of gang rape

Pune, June 4: In a shocking case, a seven-year old girl has accused her father and three of his friends of repeatedly gang-raping her for a fortnight last month, police said here Saturday.

An officer of Chinchwad police station, on the outskirts of the city, said that the victim’s mother lodged a complaint against her estranged husband and three others.

“We have arrested the four accused and sent them for a medical check-up. The victim too has been sent for a medical examination,” the police officer told IANS.

Andhra assembly adjourns, TDP fumes as trust move is ignored

Hyderabad, June 4: The Andhra Pradesh assembly was Saturday adjourned without taking up no-confidence motion moved by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) against the state’s Congress government. The main opposition party has urged the governor to convene a special session for the purpose.

Newly-elected Speaker N. Manohar adjourned the house sine die after it elected the speaker and the deputy speaker. He did not respond to the no-confidence motion submitted by the TDP earlier in the day.

CNG Prices Rise by Up to Rs 0.55/kg in Delhi, NCR

New Delhi, June 04: After petrol, price of compressed natural gas (CNG) has been increased by Rs 0.50 per kg, the second hike in rates in as many months.

Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL), a joint venture of state-run GAIL India and Bharat Petroleum (BPCL), hiked CNG price in Delhi by Rs 0.50 per kg and in neighbouring Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad by Rs 0.55 per kg.

“The new consumer price of Rs 29.80 per kg in Delhi and Rs 33.40 per kg in Noida, Greater Noida & Ghaziabad would be effective from midnight tonight,” the company said in a statement here.

UAE Employees can switch sponsors: New rule

Dubai, June 04: Private sector workers with long experience can shift to a new employer without getting a job ban even if they do not possess the educational qualifications required in the exempted categories, authorities have said.

The new rule will not affect careers that could endanger lives such as doctors and architects who must have the requited educational level to be allowed to get a job and switch employers, the ministry of labour said.

Ramdev fast a political conspiracy: Bukhari

New Delhi, June 04: Criticising yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s fast against corruption as a “political conspiracy”, Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari Saturday said “communalism is a bigger issue than corruption”.

“People who raise this issue of corruption are also not clean. The issue of communalism is much bigger in the country,” Bukhari told IANS.

“Corruption is a problem, but the communalism is a bigger threat to the country,” he added.

“It is a conspiracy involving by the parties such as Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress.

New Delhi, June 04: Bollywood star Salman Khan has only words of encouragement for India’s tennis ace Sania Mirza, who lost in the women’s doubles final at the French Open.

“Don’t worry sania v r all proud of u. Haar jeet toh is a part of life n haar ke baad jeet hai. Jeete raho (Victory and defeat is a part of life and after every defeat, there’s victory. God bless you),” Salman posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.

Drunkard Hyderabadi wife ends life

Hyderabad, June 04: A wife, who was in the bad habit of drinking, committed suicide as she was reprimanded by her husband.

This incident occurred in Nallakunta where one Rjamma, 35, poured kerosene on her body and set ablaze. She died during the treatment in hospital.

Rajamma and Pochiah got married four years back and have two children. However, she has the bad habit of consuming liquor and always found in intoxicated condition.

Pochiah was very upset over this habit of his wife and had reprimanded her. Police Nallakunta has registered a case and further investigations are on.

MEA sets up helplines for for Indians, PIOs in Yemen

New Delhi, Jun 04:With over 10,000 Indians and PIOs (Persons of Indian Origin) still in violence-hit Yemen where nearly 200 people have been killed, the External Affairs Ministry has set up helplines for them.

Pointing out that it has already advised Indian nationals in Yemen to exit the country through available commercial means, the Ministry today said “keeping in view the evolving situation and to provide information/assistance to Indian nationals or their family members, MEA and
the Embassy of India in Yemeni capital Sana’a have set up help lines.”

US worried by cyberattacks; committed to Asia

Washington, June 04: THE United States is seriously concerned about cyberattacks and is prepared to use force against those it considers an act of war, Defence Secretary Robert Gates said at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on Saturday.

New speaker of Andhra assembly

Hyderabad, June 4: Nadendla Manohar was Saturday elected the new speaker of the Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly while Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka was elected his deputy.

Manohar, who has been deputy speaker since 2009, polled 158 votes while K.E. Krishnamurthy of the main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) secured 90 votes in the 294-member house.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Communist Party of India (CPI), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Lok Satta and YSR Congress party abstained from voting to maintain equal distance from both the Congress and the TDP.

Actress receives racist messages on Twitter

London, June 04: Shobna Gulati, an Indian-origin actress who acted in Coronation Street, has left micro-blogging site Twitter after receiving racist messages.

The 44-year-old soap star was bombarded with race hate messages over the past couple of weeks after she built up 18,467 followers.

Her departure from the social networking site comes a week after she expressed shock at receiving such abuse, reports dailymail.co.uk.

British Council scholarships scheme for Indian students

Hyderabad, June 4: The British Council has announced the launch of Scholarship Award for Indian students planning to study in universities overseas. Eight students from India will be selected in this connection who will receive an award of Rs.3 lakh each towards the cost of tuition fees.

BJP hits out at Digvijay Singh for Ramdev-RSS remarks

Lucknow, June 4 (IANS) Hitting out at Digvijay Singh for calling yoga guru Baba Ramdev an agent of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain Saturday said the Congress general secretary has no right to make such a comment as he is not a party spokesperson.

“He (Digvijay) must tell whose agent is he and who has made him the agent. He is not the spokesperson of the Congress, so how is he making such comments?” the Bharatiya Janata Party leader asked.

Hussain went on to term Digvijay Singh as the general secretary of Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
