Saudi backed forces attack Bahrainis

Manama, June 06: A new footage has emerged showing Saudi-backed regime forces cracking down on a religious ceremony in south of the capital Manama, as anti-regime protests rage on in Bahrain.

Reports say Saudi-backed Bahraini forces attacked more than 70 people at a religious ceremony in the village of Ma’ameer, south of Manama, injuring many people during the onslaught.

Hyderabad, June 06: Students from Andhra Pradesh did the state proud, coming out with flying colours in the prestigious 10th All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) which were conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education.

The results were announced on Sunday at 1 PM.

From the state, Varun Tej secured 5th rank in the examination while Prithvi Raj secured the 7th rank, followed by Bhargav Reddy who was placed 8th and Surender Reddy 12th.

Speaker, Deputy’s elections violation of procedures: Gajapathi

Hyderabad, June 06: Accusing the Congress of ‘misleading’ the House, Telugu Desam Party Deputy Floor Leader in the state Assemlby Ashok Gajapathi Raju said that the elections of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker were against the established procedures.

Jupally moots agitational approach on T

Hyderabad, June 06: Hinting that the agitational approach would be more effective than building pressure on the Centre on the separate Telangana demand, former Endowments Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Sunday appealed to leaders from the region not to accept any posts offered by the government.

The former minister also called upon Telangana leaders to intensify their agitations for separate statehood instead of going to New Delhi to mount pressure on the Centre.

Fighting for T is not TRS birthright alone: TDP

Hyderabad, June 06: The Telugu Desam Party on Sunday questioned the Telangana Rashtra Samithi if fighting for a separate Telangana state is its birthright and no other party is eligible to demand a separate state.

Lashing out at the TRS for its decision to obstruct the TDP’s Telangana Ranabheri to be held in Tandur on June 10, Telugu Desam Telangana Forum convener Errabelli Dayakar Rao said that the TRS was acting as if it was the only party which was eligible to fight for a separate state.

CM vows to develop Old City on par with new

Hyderabad, June 06: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday vowed to remove the existing differences between the Old and the New City of Hyderabad by expediting the pace of development.

New Delhi, June 05:Government today justified police action to end Ramdev’s agitation saying the Yoga Guru had violated the undertaking for permission and had even backed out on his assurances.

Union Minister Kapil Sibal, who was holding negotiations with Ramdev over the last few days, said there were apprehensions about law and order situation in Delhi as Ramdev had collected 50,000 people for ‘political aasan’ (manoeuver) although he had sought permission for a yoga camp for a gathering of 5,000 only.

Abbas agrees to peace talks based on 1967 borders

Ramallah, June 05: Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas has told France he is ready to attend a Paris peace conference if Israel accepts talks based on the 1967 borders, an aide told a news agency on Sunday.

Nimr Hammad, a political adviser to Abbas, said the President had told French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe that he agreed officially to a French proposal to host a peace conference in Paris before July.

Juppe raised the possibility of the conference during a visit to Israel and the West Bank this week.

Old City residents demand compensation from water board

Hyderabad, June 05: After recovering from jaundice and paying off steep medical bills, Shahina Nafeeza Begum, a resident of Chadarghat area of the Old City, decided she had enough. Petitioning the consumer court against the Water Board for supplying contaminated water to several areas in the Old City for over four months in the summer, Shahina has demanded a compensation of Rs 5 lakh.

Advani on Sunday demanded an apology from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi for the police action.

Mr. Advani also appealed to President Pratibha Patil to call an emergency session of Parliament to discuss the issue.

”Agnivesh should be punished for Amarnath yatra remarks”

Srinagar, June 05: A Kashmiri Pandit body today demanded that social activist Swami Agnivesh be punished for his “blasphemous” remarks against pilgrimage to Amarnath cave.

All Parties Migrant Coordination Committee (APMCC) also burnt an effigy of the social activist, who last month here had said that “he does not understand why people go for such yatras” and termed the “shivlingam” formed inside the Amarnath cave as a geographical phenomenon.

“We ask the Hindu countries of Nepal, Mauritius and India to boycott Swami Agnivesh,” APMCC chairman Vinod Pandit said.

Cabinet expansion in Andhra likely to take place next week

Congress leaders to mount pressure for Telangana

Hyderabad, June 05: Congress MPs, ministers and legislators from the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday decided to mount pressure on the party’s central leadership to take immediate steps for the formation of a separate Telangana state.

At a meeting here, they decided to visit Delhi June 9-10 to meet the central leaders and urge them to table a bill in the coming session of parliament for carving out a separate state.

Ramdev is a front for RSS’ activities: Lalu

New Delhi, June 05: RJD on Sunday accused Baba Ramdev of being a front for RSS’ activities and took exception to the reception given to the yoga guru by the government upon his arrival in the national capital last week.

“This is not how a sadhu should speak. The most dangerous thing is that the RSS is using the Baba as a front for its activities. They are trying to push him forward,” the party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav told reporters here.

Samajwadi Party national convention to begin from Tuesday

Lucknow, June 05: The two-day eighth national convention of Samajwadi Party will be held in Agra from Tuesday, an official spokesman said here today.

On the first day, the convention will be inaugurated by SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav after which election of the national president and executive members will be held, party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said.

He said that later in the day deliberations would be made on the economic and political resolutions.

Violence kills five in NW Pakistan

Peshawar, June 05: A police officer was shot dead by unknown gunmen in the Mattani area of Peshawar while the dead bodies of two security personnel were discovered in Hayatabad area of the same city, a Press TV correspondent reported on Sunday.

In a separate incident, two women were gunned down in Yakatot district of Peshawar.

The assailants in all these incidents managed to flee the scene.

Earlier on Sunday, a powerful bomb attack claimed the lives of at least six people and injured several others in Peshawar.

Ramdev targets Cong, Sonia; says agitation will go on

Haridwar, June 05: Hours after being bundled out of Delhi, Baba Ramdev targeted Congress president Sonia Gandhi and government, alleging that his peaceful agitation was treated with unprecedented “barbarism” and vowed to continue his ”satyagraha” against corruption.

Reaching his ashram here after the midnight crackdown at his protest site in Ramlila ground in the national capital, a visibly shaken yoga guru alleged that there was a conspiracy to kill him and a “threat” was given to him during a meeting with senior ministers.

Bangladesh’s pop guru Azam Khan dead

Dhaka, June 05: Bangladesh’s pop legend and freedom fighter Azam Khan died at Combined Military Hospital(CMH) on Sunday morning.

The 62-year-old Pop legend was declared dead at 1020 hrs.

Azam Khan who had been suffering from throat cancer had been on life support at the city’s Square Hospital since March 27 and shifted to CMH on Wednesday.

Azam Khan earned fame by singing Bengali pop songs in 70s and 80s.

Sania FIRED UP

New Delhi, June 05: Sania Mirza might have failed in her quest to become the first Indian to win a Grand Slam women’s doubles title, but her emotions after losing in the French Open final were a mixed bag.

Sania and her Russian partner Elena Vesnina were beaten in straight sets by unseeded Czech pair Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka on Friday, but the Indian ace wrote on her Twitter page that she was relieved to be playing at all.
