China sets up “Online Blue Army”

Beijing, June 29: Chinese military has set up “Online Blue Army”, a dedicated web network aimed to beef up internet security of its defence installations from cyber attacks.

The “Online Blue Army” is based on the People’s Liberation Army, (PLA) needs and enforcing the ability of Internet security protection is an important issue in its military training programs, Chinese Defence Ministry spokesman Geng Yansheng said.

Cabinet reshuffle: Sonia begins ‘appraisal’ process

New Delhi, June 29: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi have held another round of consultations on the expected reshuffle of the Union Cabinet, as per reports on Tuesday. This was the second meeting between the two leaders in the past one week on the issue.

Sonia Gandhi has also started meeting the ministers individually, reports added. It is believed that Sonia is keen on some ministers being dropped from the Cabinet so that they can take up key party positions.

Metro rail hits Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen roadblock

Hyderabad, June 29: Even before civil works could begin, metro rail has hit a roadblock at Chadarghat. According to sources, Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) brought pressure on the GHMC to stop acquiring properties it had identified on the 2-km stretch between Mahatma Gandhi Central Bus Station (Imliban) and Malakpet.

The GHMC has identified 67 buildings for takeover but it could get control of only five of them till date. The acquisition process came to a standstill five months ago.

Rave party cop was an undercover?

Mumbai, June 29: It has been revealed that Anil Jadhav, the cop who was arrested in a raid at a rave party in Pune was an ‘undercover’ agent. The revelation, if proved true, can once again leave Mumbai Police red-faced.

Jadhav pleading innocence hinted that his arrest was part of a conspiracy hatched by rivals in the department. His lawyers say he was at the party performing official duties undercover.

Jadhav’s lawyer Rizwan Merchant said, “Anil Jadhav was there to only verify information about what was going on.”

Salman Khurshid accused of blasphemy

New Delhi, June 29: A section of Muslims, in a signed statement endorsed by two prominent clerics, accused minority affairs minister Salman Khurshid of “blasphemy” — a serious charge under Islam only to retract it later.

Khurshid had said the Sachar committee report was “not the Quran” that it could not be questione d and had to be followed word for word. This prompted Muslims who have differences with Khurshid on wakf reform to cry “blasphemy”.

1400-year-old India’s oldest mosque to be renovated

Thrissur, June 29: Considered to be India’s oldest mosque, the 1,400-year-old Cheraman Juma Masjid at nearby Kodungalloor will soon be renovated at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore.

The Cheraman Juma Masjid in Kodungallur, believed to be the country’s first and oldest mosque, will soon be restored to its original form. Its management committee was giving final touches to a renovation project that would start in September, according to masjid president P.A. Mohammed Sayed.

Man acquitted from torturing daughter-in-law

New Delhi, June 29: The Delhi High court has upheld a trial court’s order acquitting a man accused of torture and dowry harassment of his daughter-in-law, who later committed suicide at her parents’ house.

The division bench of Justice S. Ravindra Bhat and Justice G.P. Mittal said: “We are satisfied that the trial court’s findings as well as conclusions were well founded and well reasoned.”

The high court said this earlier in the month while hearing a petition filed by the prosecution against Kiran Chand’s acquittal by the lower court Aug 12, 2010.
