US urges Yemen to move to swift transition

Sanaa, June 07: Yemen’s government should seize on President Ali Abdullah Saleh’s absence to bring about a swift and peaceful handover of power, the United States suggested.

While Saleh remains in Riyadh recovering from his wounds from Friday’s rocket attack on his palace, there is a chance that Yemen can avoid the descent into chaos that Saudi Arabia and the United States are anxious to avoid, analysts say.

Four killed in blast at fireworks store in China

Beijing, June 07: Four people were killed and one seriously injured when an explosion blew apart a fireworks store in a south China city early Tuesday morning.

The blast in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region led to the collapse of the store ceiling collapsed and trapped five people in the debris.

The explosion happened at around 6 a.m. (local time) at the store in a two-story building in Anhe township of Quanzhou County, a spokesman with the public security bureau in Guilin City said.

Hyderabad to host global Biological Diversity meet next year

Hyderabad, June 07: Adding another feather to its cap, Hyderabad has been chosen over Delhi, for hosting the prestigious 11th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity in October 2012. The conference will be attended by representatives from 194 countries, including some Prime Ministers.

Anna’s fast shifted to Raj Ghat

New Delhi, June 07: Anna Hazare and his Janlokpal movement have shifted the venue of tomorrow’s fast to Raj Ghat

Under the current Section 144 order, only New Delhi district — about a fifth of Delhi’s size — has been prohibited for holding assembly or dharna.

“Our intention is not to force a confrontation with the Police.. So we are shifting it near Raj Ghat, from 10 am to 6 pm,” Arvind Kejriwal said.

There will also be a debate at 5 pm, in addition to bhajans and prayers from 10 am to 6 pm.

Distribution of houses under Rajeev Gruha Kalpa

G.O. for reservations likely today, fear of exceeding 50%

Hyderabad, June 07: State Govt. has decided to issue a G.O. for reservation of 60.55 % posts for the weaker sections whereas the Supreme Court ruling is not to exceed 50% reservations.

State Election Commissioner had already declared earlier that he won’t ratify the G.O. if the reservations exceed 50% limit fixed by the Supreme Court.

Since the Govt. cannot reduce the quota for S.Cs and S.Ts, Govt is under pressure to minimize the reservation for B.Cs. All the political parties are opposing any reduction in B.Cs. quota.

70,000 new jobs in Saudi: Bonanza for women

Jeddah, June 07: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah on Monday instructed all government departments to implement the short-term and long-term plans he approved for creating jobs for the increasing number of Saudi graduates.

The new plans are expected to create at least 70,000 new jobs for Saudi women.

King Abdullah made this comment while presiding over the weekly Cabinet meeting, which also called for the establishment of more dual-purpose desalination plants along the Kingdom’s coasts to meet the country’s water and electricity needs.

Congress likens Baba Ramdev agitation to Babri Masjid event

New Delhi, June 07: Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari has compared the recently broken up protest by Baba Ramdev to a “1992 like situation,” a reference to 6 December 1992 when right wing Hindu groups tore down a disputed Mosque in Ayodhya.

Tewari, speaking on Times Now channel, said that the agitation by the Yogi was far from peaceful and there were elements of RSS, BJP and VHP who were trying to sabotage the event.

“Bhatta Parsaul was an unprovoked attack on farmers,” Tiwari said.

History Won’t Forgive PM for His Political Sin: Ramdev

Haridwar, June 07: With the government toughening its stand against Baba Ramdev, the yoga guru today said he forgave the Prime Minister for the crackdown on his agitation but history will not forgive him for the “political sin” he committed.

“The Prime Minister termed it (the police action) unfortunate. In a way he has accepted his sin. Since he has accepted his sin, I have forgiven him,” Ramdev told reporters here.

Undertrial prisoners languish

Hyderabad, June 07: Undertrial prisoners continue to suffer in jails for years without trial. An example is Machavarapu Maria Dasu, an undertrial prisoner from Guntur district jail, who has been languishing in prison for over six years without trial. Maria Dasu is an accused in 13 cases, one of which dates back to 2002. In a petition to the State Human Rights Commission, through the Guntur jail superintendent, Mr B. Lakshmi Narsiah, he complained that he had been languishing in jail since May 1, 2005 and his trial was yet to commence.

Muslim Brotherhood’s party officially registered in Egypt

Cairo, June 7: The Egyptian commission for political parties has officially registered the Freedom and Justice Party created by the Muslim Brotherhood to run in the upcoming parliamentary polls, the Islamist movement said on its website.

The registration, accorded Monday, allows the new political entity to contest the coming elections. The new party, which claims to be secular and completely distinct from the Muslim Brotherhood, is hoping to win around half of the parliamentary seats in the polls scheduled for September.

New Delhi, June 07: Tapal Ganesh, mine-owner, has ridiculed the Bharatiya Janata Party for supporting the movement launched by Anna Hazare’s against corruption and Baba Ramdev’s demand to retrieve black money stashed in overseas banks. ‘Yemenis won’t allow foreign meddling’

Sanaa, June 07: Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast says Yemeni people will determine their own destiny and not allow any foreign encroachment of their sovereignty.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that the Yemeni people will build on their political maturity and not allow foreign parties to get involved [in Yemen] to take advantage [of the unrest] and make decisions on behalf of the Yemeni people,” said a press release issued by Mehmanparast on Monday, quoted by IRNA.

Sony computer systems hacked again

New York, June 07: Hackers, calling themselves Lulz Security, have said that they had broken into Sony Corp computer systems again and posted the results on the internet.

The group, which has claimed credit for a prior attack on Sony’s systems, posted what appeared to be Sony BMG network maps from a New York City office and what they said was 54 megabytes of Sony developer source code.

“We are looking into these claims,” Jim Kennedy, a spokesman for Sony Pictures Entertainment, said in an email.

Hazare refused permission to fast

New Delhi, June 7: An associate of Gandhian Anna Hazare said Tuesday police had denied them permission to hold a fast here Wednesday but they would go ahead with a protest.

Speaking to reporters, Arvind Kejriwal accused Delhi Police of imposing orders banning the assembly of five or more people in an arbitrary manner in the heart of the city to prevent Hazare’s fast.

“The government ought to explain what threat does Anna Hazare pose,” he said.

The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister’s re-induction in the party was announced at a press conference here by party president Nitin Gadkari.

She will look after the party’s affairs in Uttar Pradesh, which goes to polls next year.
