But the jailing of a woman protester, Manal al-Sharif, after she posted online a video of herself at the wheel of a car in Khobar reveals the extent of the US diplomatic failure.

The cables, part of the treasure trove allegedly given to WikiLeaks by the US soldier Bradley Manning, reveal previously unreported clashes over women’s rights.

Doctor molests engineering student

Bareilly, May 28: A doctor was arrested for allegedly molesting an engineering student in Khwaja Kutub area, police said here today.

The incident occurred on Thursday when the victim, who is pursuing M.Tech from an institute in Noida, went to a private clinic for treatment of some skin-related ailment, they said.

At the clinic, Brahnbhaskar Arya, a homoeopathy doctor, gave the victim some drug after which the girl became unconscious, they said.

Saudi wife killed maid, paid SR40,000 compensation

Riyadh, May 28: The family of a Sri Lankan maid who was murdered by a Saudi sponsor’s wife received SR40,000 as compensation for the death, the Sri Lankan Embassy told Arab News here Friday.

The autopsy report of the maid, identified as 36-year-old Pospawalli Selladurai, revealed that she had been murdered.

Al-Jouf police arrested the woman, who is still in remand. She will be released as soon as the paper work is completed following the payment of blood money, which amounts to about $10,650.

Delhi High Court Blast one detained

New Delhi, May 28: The Delhi police on Thursday night picked up a 35-year-old man from the Pilkhua area of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh in connection with the low intensity bomb blast at the parking space of Delhi High Court.

The senior superintendent of police (Ghaziabad), Raghuveer Lal said one Gulfam had been picked up from the Pilkhua area on Thursday by the Delhi police but added that it wasn’t related to the blast.

New Delhi, May 28: India has sought access to David Coleman Headley’s first wife, Shazia Gilani, and asked the US to come clean on how the American operative managed to procure a US passport in his new name.

Interpol issues global alert for Taliban fugitives

Paris, May 28: Interpol has issued a worldwide alert for 417 fugitives of an Afghan jailbreak, including Taliban considered “a major threat to global security.”

The France-based international police agency says it has issued a so-called Orange Notice for the fugitives who escaped the Sarposa prison in Kandahar on April 24.

Authorities in Afghanistan had said more than 480 inmates escaped the jail through a tunnel dug over a matter of months.

It wasn’t immediately clear why Interpol’s alert concerned a smaller number of fugitives.

CBSE Class 10th result on May 31

New Delhi, May 28: CBSE has announced the new dates for the declaration of Class 10th Result 2011. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will announce the Class Xth Result on 31st May, 2011.

The time of declaration is not yet confirmed. The result of CBSE Class 12th Examination has already been declared.

The results will be based on Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) this year. But the collection of CCE data from schools is giving the Board a tough time, hence the delay.

ISI might be involved in 26/11: Khan

New Delhi, May 28: In the first ever acceptance from the Pakistani side about the involvement of ISI in the 26/11 Mumbai carnage, former Foreign Secretary Shaharyar Khan said that lower-level rogue elements in the spy agency might be involved in the carnage.

He, however, said he has “very much doubt” that ISI and military as institutions would like to be part of something like Mumbai attacks as that would be “counter-productive”.

Sydney, May 28: Legendary Australian spinner Shane Warne says the cricket world has lost a ‘true character and champion’ in his mentor Terry Jenner.

Jenner, 66, who suffered a massive heart attack in April, passed away on Wednesday in Adelaide.

“Cricket has lost a true character and champion – the world is a lesser place without Terrence James Jenner! Mate I will miss you so much,” Warne was quoted as saying in the `Australian`.

Indian-origin man gets life term for killing wife

New York, May 28: An Indian-origin man, convicted of going on a shooting spree and killing two persons including his estranged wife in a Clifton church in New Jersey, has been awarded a double life sentence without parole by a judge.

Joseph Pallipurath, 29, drove from California to New Jersey in 2008 and shot to death two people in the St Thomas Syrian Orthodox Knanaya Church. A woman, who is now wheelchair-bound for life, was also injured in the attack.

The victims were his estranged wife Reshma James (24) and Dennis John (25), a parishioner who tried to help her.

Bangalore, May 28: The resolution by the World Health Organization (WHO) to hold on to the two last known remaining stocks of the smallpox virus for “crucial research” raises the spectre of bioterrorism, warns a leading Indian virologist.

“If the destruction is delayed indefinitely, the synthesis and preparation of small pox virus as a bio-weapon, by a non-superpower would increase and it may truly become a poor man’s atom bomb,” says Kalyan Banerjee, former director of the National Institute of Virology in Pune.

Pak driver held with sex worker in Dubai

Dubai, May 27: A Pakistani driver and an Ethiopian prostitute have been jailed for six months each after a court convicted them of having consensual sex.

The Dubai Court of First Instance jailed the couple after the 24-year-old woman, H.M., was convicted of prostitution and allowing the 50-year-old driver, M.A., to have sex with her. The latter was incriminated of having consensual sex.

The two accused will be deported following the completion of their punishments.
