Farmers panic as cotton seeds remain unavailable

Warangal, May 28: Farmers are a worried lot as cotton seeds are still not available in the market though the kharif season is round the corner.

Agriculture operations have already begun and sowing will be taken up either in the first or second week of June.

According to agriculture officials, cotton crop is likely to be cultivated in 2.45 lakh hectares in Warangal district for which about 13.75 lakh cotton seed packets are required.

The seed companies have hiked prices of the seed packets, but they are yet to be released in the market in the district.

11 injured as two cars collide

Hyderabad, May 28: Eleven people were injured in an accident after a Tata Sumo hit an Indica car near LB Nagar on Friday. The mishap happened around 3.30 pm when a speeding Indica collided with the Sumo coming from Suryapet. “After hitting the Indica, the Sumo turned over and 11 persons inside the Sumo were injured,” the police said. The injured were rushed to hospital in an EMRI ambulance.

Child labour loses two fingers in quarry mishap

Karimnagar, May 28: Despite the district administration’s anti-child labour drive launched recently, children are continued to be employed as workers in many factories and industrial units in Karimnagar district.

And this is evident in the fact that a 15-year-old boy working at a granite quarry reportedly lost two fingers on his left hand in an accident at the workplace.

The incident occurred two days ago but it came to light only today.

Hyderabad, May 28: Syeda Tamkeen Sultana, daughter of Syed Sultan Mohiuddin Qaudri engineer, passed 12th class examination with distinction from Chicago Glamoured North High School on which she has been bestowed with Education Excellence Award by American president Barack Obama and her excellent educational performance was lauded.

Syeda Tamkeen got her primary education from Rosary Convent School Abids.

BJP pushes for Afzal Guru’s execution

New Delhi, May 28: A day after mercy petitions of two death row convicts were rejected by President Pratibha Patil, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday demanded rejection of the mercy plea of parliament terror attack accused Afzal Guru, terming the delay in his execution “vote-bank politics”.

“It is a copy book example of vote-bank politics. A few days back there was a comment from (Delhi chief minister) Sheila Dikshit and her officers that the then home minister Shivraj Patil had asked to delay the petition,” party spokesman Ravishankar Prasad told reporters.

LoC Traders Protest Against VAT

Srinagar, May 28: Cross Line-of-Control (LoC) traders today held a protest here demanding revocation of Value Added Tax (VAT) on trade between two parts of the divided Kashmir.

“As per the VAT Act, sellers and buyers should be in the state control, where as the sellers and buyers of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) are not in control of the J&K government. PoK dealers cannot register their firms under VAT,” General Secretary of Salamabad-Chakoti Traders Unions Hilal Turki said

He said keeping in view the ground situation, VAT should not be imposed on the cross-LoC trade.

Pak must dismantle terror camps

Kannur, May 28: Defence Minister A K Antony today said it would be difficult to have “permanent cooperation” in Indo-Pak relations without Islamabad dismantling terrorist camps functioning in Pakistan.

India’s grievance with Pakistan was that about 42 terrorist camps were functioning in that country, Antony told reporters here.

“Without destroying these terrorist camps, it would be difficult to have permanent cooperation in Indo-Pak relations,” he said.

Muslim remarks: Sanju Baba to be arrested

New Delhi, May 28: A Mau court issued a non-bailable warrant against Sanjay Dutt on Saturday over his allegedly provocative election speech during the 2009 Lok Sabha election campaign. Dutt in his speech had alleged that he was booked under TADA as he was the son of a Muslim mother.

An FIR was issued against Dutt after he claimed in an election rally that he was tortured in jail because of the same reason.

CIA team searches Osama’s Pakistan mansion

Islamabad, May 28: A team of officials from US spy agency CIA flew to Abbottabad near the Pakistani capital and searched the mansion where Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden was killed in a secret mission earlier this month, a media report said Saturday.

The CIA investigators visited the compound Friday after flying in on a helicopter, sources told The Nation daily.

Witnesses said the helicopter flew in at around 12.45 p.m. amid tight security in the area. Media was denied access to the compound.

Won’t attack Pak’s nuke: Taliban

Islamabad, May 28: Taliban today said that the group has no intention to target Pakistan’s nuclear weapon since it is the only Muslim nation to have nuclear power.

Fears have escalated of a larger assault by the Taliban after an attack on a Karachi naval base killed 14 people.

Pakistan now fears its sizable nuclear arsenal could be vulnerable, reported the News International.

Taliban spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan dismissed those concerns as the US’ “excuse” to pressure the Pakistan government into fighting the Taliban, who he portrayed as the country’s “true protectors”.

Washington, May 28: Pakistani military Generals are concerned that their ranks have been penetrated by Islamists who are aiding militants in a campaign against the state.

Mumbai, May 28: Sonakshi Sinha’s diamond jewellery worth lakhs went missing from her vanity van on the sets of her next movie, Joker.

The theft occurred when the actress stepped out for a while during a late-night shoot.

Says a unit source, “She looked around in the van. But she was sure that she had kept it along with her other stuff. She then asked around but nothing came of it.”

Hyderabad, May 28: In a reshuffle of IPS officers, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Friday posted new superintendents of police to 10 districts and effected seven other transfers/postings.

N. Siva Sankar Reddy is transferred and appointed SP, Nalgonda, replacing Rajesh Kumar, who, in turn, is appointed SP, Warangal (Rural) with full additional charge of Warangal (Urban) until further orders. V. Ravinder, is posted as SP of Karimnagar.
