TRS protests delay in accepting Pocharam’s resignation

Hyderabad, April 02: Five MLAs and several other leaders of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) staged a dharna in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue within the Assembly complex for nearly five hours on Friday protesting against the delay in acceptance of the resignation of Telugu Desam Party MLA Pocharam Srinivas Reddy.

Mr. Reddy who resigned from TDP and the Assembly and joined the TRS a week ago was also present. He claimed that he was pressing for the acceptance of his resignation by Deputy Speaker N. Manohar every day but the latter was dodging the issue.

Waqf Properties’ Record in MP being Computerized

Bhopal, April 02 (Pervez Bari): In order to monitor Waqf properties, the record is being computerized in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

A total of 15,000 properties worth Rs. 52,000 crores is registered under the Waqf in the state. Around 195 cases of encroachment on Waqf properties have been registered. Decisions have been taken to evict encroachers in 790 cases.

SCCL completes financial closure for power plant

Parties protest increase in power tariff

Kiran showers sops on home district

Four CRPF men gunned down in Assam, one injured

Diphu, April 02: Two days before the first phase of Assembly polls in Assam, ethnic insurgent outfit Karbi Peoples Liberation Tiger (KPLT) today gunned down four CRPF jawans and injured another in an encounter in Karbi Anglong district.

Several CRPF men are missing after the encounter, police said.

Last night, an operation was launched by the CRPF in the Deothar area, under Bokajan police station, against the newly-formed KPLT militants, they said.

Achuthanandan wishes victory to Indian team

Goa minister detained with $10 mn at Mumbai airport

Mumbai, April 02: Goa’s Education Minister Atanasio Monseratte was detained by the customs department at the Mumbai international airport after he was allegedly found carrying over $10 million, an official said.

Acting on a tip-off, the customs sleuths waited for Monseratte who arrived here by a domestic flight from Goa and was reportedly planning to go abroad.

Officials from the customs and other departments were questioning him for the huge amount of cash. He was also carrying Rs.2.5 million in Indian currency.

26/11: Legal jurisdiction for team visiting Pak

New Delhi, April 02: The government on Friday dismissed apprehensions that the team going to Pakistan to gather information and evidence for the 26/11 case will have limited legal jurisdiction and said modalities for the panel will be worked out taking into account existing laws.

Home Minister P Chidambaram said Pakistan has agreed in principle to receive an Indian team to gather information and evidence in that country in connection with the 2008 Mumbai attack case.

Bhubaneswar, April 02: A lamp with five kilogram of ghee that was lit at an Orissa temple before the World Cup semifinal at Mohali continues to burn bright as devotees pray for India’s victory against Sri Lanka in the final Saturday.

In a Shiva temple in Cuttack city, 26 km from here, the lamp with five kg ghee was lit for India’s win in the Mohali semifinal against Pakistan Wednesday. Ghee or clarified butter is normally used to soak the wick in Indian temple lamps. Devotees say the lamp would be put out only after India wins the World Cup.
