Financial terrorism suspected in 2008 economic crash

Pentagon, March 02: Evidence outlined in a Pentagon contractor report suggests that financial subversion carried out by unknown parties, such as terrorists or hostile nations, contributed to the 2008 economic crash by covertly using vulnerabilities in the U.S. financial system.

The unclassified 2009 report “Economic Warfare: Risks and Responses” by financial analyst Kevin D. Freeman, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Times, states that “a three-phased attack was planned and is in the process against the United States economy.”

Tunis, March 02: The Tunisian govenrment has announced that it is ending its long-standing ban for the Hezb Ennahda, an Islamist political party inspired by the Muslim Brotherhood, a popular Egyptian religious faction.

The movement was founding in 1981 and ran as an opposition party in the heavily disputed election of 1989, netting nearly 20% of the vote before being banned by the Ben Ali regime. Most of its members were arrested or fled into exile.

New York, March 02: A US court has issued summons to India’s Congress party in connection with the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, acting on a Sikh rights group’s petition charging it with “conspiring, aiding and abetting” organised attacks on the community.

A federal district court in New York issued summons to India’s ruling party in a class action lawsuit filed by Sikh organisation, Sikhs for Justice which has offices in New York and India.

Hajj forms available from March 16

Srinagar, March 02: Application forms for the annual Hajj pilgrimage will be available from March 16, Jammu and Kashmir government said here.

“The application forms for the Hajj will be issued from March 16,” an official spokesman said.

He said that the forms would be available at Hajj House Bemina.

The pilgrims who had been applying for the last three years and were not selected through draw of lots have been asked to register their claims with the State Hajj committee by or before March 15, he said.

No claim shall be entertained after the expiry of the said date, he said.

Indore, March 02: VHP leader Pravin Togadia defended Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur – arrested recently in connection with the murder of former RSS pracharak Sunil Joshi – while expressing dissatisfaction about punishment awarded to convicts in Godhra train burning case.

Don’t Allow Aseemanand Out of State: Raj ATS to Court

Ajmer, March 02: Rajasthan ATS has pleaded in a local court that Aseemanand, an activist of right-wing Hindu group Abhinav Bharat, and three other accused in Ajmer Dargah blast case should not be allowed to be taken out of the state by other probe agencies because of security reasons.

The application was filed by the ATS yesterday before Chief Judicial Magistrate Rekha Choudhry, who extended the judicial custody of 59-year-old Aseemanand, Mukesh Vasani, Harshad Solanki and Bharat Mohan Rateshver till March 15.

Hyderabad, March 2 (Siasat News): A man who claimed to possess spiritual powers and the ability to cure ailments was arrested by Dabeerpura police for extorting more than Rs. 56,000.

The accused Mir Lutfe Ali Hassan or the ‘Aamil’ (black magician) convinced one Ghulam Nomani that his wife, brother and sister-in-law were under the influence of evil spirits and promised to cure them within three days.

Spiritualist (Amil) arrested for fraud

Hyderabad, March 2: Dabeer Pura police have arrested a spiritualist (Amil) on the charges of swindling and threatening. According to sub inspector Ravi Kumar Mir Hasan Ali Khan resident of Noor Khan Bazar collected 56 thousand rupees from a man for curing his wife and when the complainant Ghulam Nomani demanded back the amount for not curing his wife the former refused to pay back the money.

Pakistan minority minister assassinated

Islamabad, March 02: Pakistani Minority Affairs Minister Shahbaz Bhatti has been shot dead in Islamabad by unidentified gunmen after receiving several death threats.

The assailants opened fire at the Christian politician’s car in a residential district in the capital, Islamabad, on Wednesday morning.

The gunmen have fled after the incident, a police official told Media.

Medical sources say Bhatti was dead on arrival at Islamabad’s Shifa Hospital.

He was an outspoken opponent of Pakistan’s controversial blasphemy law.

Israeli drone buzzes over S Lebanon

Jerusalem, March 02: An Israeli drone has penetrated Lebanese airspace and flown over the southern part of Lebanon in flagrant violation of a UN Security Council resolution.

The Israeli aircraft crossed into Lebanese airspace over the village of al-Naqoura, located 91 kilometers (57 miles) south of the capital Beirut, at 6:05 a.m. local time (0305 GMT) on Tuesday and conducted several unwarranted flights, a statement released by the Lebanese military said.
