Chennai, March 06: The four additional seats in Malappuram district have become the bone of contention between the Indian Union Muslim League and the Congress in the seat-sharing exercises now on in the run up to the April 13 Assembly elections.
Leaders of the parties are now holding marathon discussions at various levels to work out a formula to amicably settle the issue. The leaders, during the first round of talks in Kozhikode, have come to a general consensus on the number of seats the IUML will contest this time.

Riyadh, March 06: Saudi Arabia’s interior ministry today said that protests were illegal, amid various calls for demonstrations demanding change in the ultra-conservative kingdom, state media said.
“Regulations in the kingdom forbid categorically all sorts of demonstrations, marches and sit-ins … As they contradict Islamic Sharia law and the values and traditions of Saudi society,” said a statement carried by SPA state news agency.
Police are “authorised by law to take all measures needed against those who try to break the law,” the statement added.
Hyderabad, March 06: Putting an end to the prolonged suspense, the State government finally announced its decision to conduct the annual examinations for SSC and Intermediate “as per the original schedule” without alteration of the dates fixed for any subject.
This, in effect, means that the English paper of Intermediate II year will be conducted as announced earlier on March 10 in spite of the ‘Million March’ being organised in the State capital at the behest of the Telangana joint action committee (T-JAC).
Srinagar, March 06: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today maintained that there is no relation between the situation in Kashmir and Egypt, which witnessed massive anti-Government protests and said people can always overthrow a government through democratic process.
He said his government was trying to “break” the continuous summer unrest in the Valley.
“I want to tell them that there is no relation between Kashmir and the situations in these countries (Egypt, Libya and Tunisia),” Omar said.

New Delhi, March 06: Rising living costs have led to school and college going teens in metropolitan cities getting as much as Rs. 3,600 to over Rs. 12,000 a month in pocket money, says an Assocham survey.
“Teenagers who used to get Rs. 450-Rs 500 per month till 2005 are today getting minimum of Rs. 3,600 per month to an astonishing Rs. 12,000 and above across urban India,” said DS Rawat, National Secretary General, Assocham.
Hyderabad, March 06: The transport department has rescheduled the slots of Learner’s and Permanent license test applicants, who could not take the tests due to the employees’ non-cooperation movement from February 17 to March 4.

Accordingly, all the applicants, who booked their test slots during the above period, would have to take tests between March 7 and 24 as rescheduled by the department. The time slot and the regional transport office where the applicant intends to take the test would remain the same, said Transport Commissioner L. Premchandra Reddy.
London, March 06: Eight British special forces commandos were captured by rebel forces in eastern Libya, the Sunday Times reported.
The paper said the soldiers were escorting a junior British diplomat through rebel-held territory who was hoping to make contact with the insurgent forces. The government refused to comment.
“We neither confirm nor deny the story and we do not comment on the special forces,” a ministry of defence statement said.

Haiti, March 06: Haitian President Rene Preval has expressed gratitude to the Islamic Republic of Iran for its humanitarian aid to the earthquake-hit people of the country.
The Haitian chief executive made the remark in a Saturday meeting to receive the credentials of the new Iranian ambassador to Port-au-Prince, IRNA reported.
Preval thanked the Iranian government and nation for their medical and food aid over the devastating January 2010 quake, which killed 316,000 people and left the Haitian capital in ruins.

Cuba, March 06: The motorcycle companion of revolutionary icon Ernesto Che Guevara, Alberto Granado, has passed away at the age of 88 in Cuba.
Granado was born in Cordoba, Argentina, on August 8, 1922, and met Guevara as a child.
The journey, begun in 1951, exposed the two medical students to deep poverty and social injustice and awoke Guevara’s revolutionary convictions.
After arriving in Cuba in 1961, Granado taught biochemistry at Havana University.
Che Guevara was killed in Bolivia in 1967 as he tried to lead a revolution in the country.

Baghdad, March 06: University students in the autonomous region of Iraq controlled by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) have launched a running poll to voice their opposition to KRG President Massoud Barzani.
The students at the University of Sulaymaniyah started the “President, I don’t need you” campaign.
The running poll campaign was quickly adopted by other anti-government media, such as Lvin Press Magazine, and soon thousands of protesters were visiting and voting online.
