London, February 27: Just a day after posting a 140-character tweet to find his daughter, a homeless New York man has had an emotional reunion with her after being apart for 10 years.

Daniel Morales, 58, and Sarah, 27, met in New York on Friday after he posted a tweet, his mobile number and a photo of her on Thursday, reports the BBC.

“Hi thi is to let yo people know that in lookin eoq my daughter her name is sarah m rivera,” he had tweeted on Thursday.

The two had lost touch after Sarah left their Puerto Rico home to live with her mother in California.

Iran not to back down against plots

Tehran, February 27: Iran’s Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani says the country will never back down in the face of enemy conspiracies.

“Iran has found its path, and is moving toward perfection and progress, and, thank God, serves as a role model for all popular and Islamic movements in and outside the [Middle East] region,” Larijani said on Sunday.

He described the recent uprisings in Muslim countries as a storm “sweeping across the Middle East, North Africa and the Persian Gulf.”

Tunisian PM resigns amid protests

Tunis, February 27: Tunisian Prime Minister Mohamed Ghannouchi has stepped down after security forces shot dead three pro-democracy protesters in the capital, Tunis.

“I have decided to quit as prime minister,” Ghannouchi told a news conference.

“I am not ready to be the person who takes decisions that would end up causing casualties,” Ghannouchi said.

“This resignation will serve Tunisia, and the revolution and the future of Tunisia,” he added.

Gaddafi bombs protesters near Tripoli

Tripoli, February 27: Forces loyal to Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi have bombarded pro-democracy demonstrators, who are zeroing in on the capital, Tripoli.
The heavy bombardment was reported in Zawiyah, some 50 kilometers west of Tripoli.

The violence act came hours after demonstrators took control of the strategically important town.

Two thousand people have been reported killed in the weeks-long violence.

The embattled regime has recently used aerial attacks and poison gas against the peaceful protesters.

Arab League chief to run for Egyptian presidency

Cairo, February 27: Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa has expressed his intention to run in Egypt’s next presidential election, Xinhua said, citing state TV.

“I am intending to participate in the next presidential election, and I’ll announce this (officially) at a suitable time,” Moussa, an Egyptian citizen, said in a statement at the League headquarters Saturday.

Earlier this month, Moussa, a former Egyptian foreign minister, had said that he would resign from the position as chief of the pan-Arab organisation within weeks because he had new plans.

India-England match ends in a tie

Bangalore, February 27: India tied with England in a Group B match of the World Cup at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here Sunday.

UAE, Syria discuss ways to improve ties

Abu Dhabi, February 27: The United Arab Emirates and Syria Sunday discussed the ways and possibilities of boosting bilateral ties in various fields, especially in the education sector.

Delay in disbursing funds to poor countries disappointing: Ramesh

New Delhi, February 27: Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh Sunday termed the delay in disbursement of fast-start funding by developed countries to poor countries as the “biggest disappointment” and “betrayal of trust”, saying this could make the atmosphere at the Durban climate change talks later this year “clouded with doubt and suspicion”.

Truck driver shot dead in Kashmir

Srinagar, February 27: Separatist guerrillas gunned down a truck driver in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district Saturday evening, police said.

A senior police officer said pistol shots were at Muhammad Ayub Wani, a truck driver by profession as he was returning home after offering prayers in the local mosque in Kakpora town, 28 km from Srinagar.

“Ayub succumbed to the critical bullet injuries before he could be shifted to hospital,” the officer said.

Two brothers of the slain driver are working in the state police, according to sources.

Jodhpur pregnancy deaths: IV fluids firm manager detained

Jodhpur, February 27: A manager of a firm which allegedly manufactured the contaminated IV fluids responsible for the deaths of at least 12 pregnant women at a government hospital here was detained in Indore town of Madhya Pradesh Sunday, police said.

A team of Jodhpur police officers who went to Indore to probe the case detained Sanjay Shah, manager (production) of Parental Surgical India Pvt Ltd.

New Delhi, February 27: After a relatively calm week for the government, hounded by allegations of scams, the Supreme Court is all set to hear this week cases relating to 2G spectrum allocation, black money stashed in foreign banks and corporate lobbyist Niira Radia’s wire-tapping.

A petition seeking enhancement of compensation for victims of the Bhopal gas tragedy and another challenging the right to education law would also come up in the apex court during the period.

Vijayawada, February 27: Union Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa today clarified that priority was given to Andhra Pradesh, after West Bengal, in announcing projects in the Railway budget.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the budgetary allocation for Andhra Pradesh for ongoing new lines, gauge conversion, doubling and electrification had also shown a significant increase of almost 27 per cent, compared to previous year.

”Seven new rail line projects were sanctioned to a length of 1,164.83 KM at a total cost of Rs 4,386 crore for Andhra Pradesh.

Newly-wed couple escape as car falls into lake

Mysore, February 27: A newly-wed couple from Bijapur had a miraculous escape when their car plunged into Undabathi lake along Mysore-Nanjangud road today.

Police said the couple Suryakanth and Ranjini, who were on their honeymoon were travelling to Ooty. When the husband who was driving the car, attempted to overtake a speeding lorry near the lake, the car veered to the right, going off the road and fell into the lake.

Bomb explosion in Kerala; 5 killed

Kozhikode, February 27: Five people were killed and three injured
seriously in a bomb explosion at Narikkatteri town in this district of Kerala.

Police sources said the blast occurred when some people were
allegedly preparing explosive devices in the district last night.
Niyas (25), Rafique (30), Sameer (29), Shabil (28) and Shabeer
(20), who sustained grievous injuries, died at different hospitals,

Agartala, February 27: The Left Font today registered a massive
victory in the Tripura Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) village
committee elections and byelections in 73 village panchayats and
seven panchayat samitis in non-ADC area, held on February 24.
Election officials said here that 461 village committees of 527
were captured by the Left Front, while Opposition Congress-INPT and
Independent candidates won 56 and one villages respectively.
Earlier, Left front candidates had won nine village committees
without contest.

Ex-AG condemns AP HC remarks against Srikrishna report on Telangana

New Delhi, February 27: Former Attorney General of India Soli Sorabjee has disapproved the intemperate remark reportedly made by Andhra Pradesh High Court criticising Justice B N Srikrishna report on Telangana describing it ”a tissue of lies”.

Mr Sorabjee has cautioned the judiciary, including Supreme Court and High Court judges, to exercise restraints while hearing the cases.

The remark were reportedly made by a single judge bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, who is hearing a PIL on Telengana issue.

The High Court judge flared up when he was shown some parts of the reports.

4 arrested for running betting racket on World Cup match

Ghaziabad, February 27: Four persons were arrested here today for allegedly running a betting racket on the World Cup cricket match between India and England, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided a house in Richhpal Puri locality where the alleged betting racket was on, they said.

Two laptops, six mobile phones and cash totalling Rs five lakh were seized from the four who had been arrested.

Mumbai, February 27: The latest buzz in tinsel town is that Sanjay Dutt injured himself on the sets of his upcoming film “Rascals” in Pattaya.

A fitness freak, Sanjay was injured while working out in the gym when a dumbbell fell on his right foot.

He was straightway taken to the Bangkok Pattaya hospital where doctors recommended him complete rest for two full days.

Keen to complete his shooting with Kangana as she had to leave for Mumbai Sanjay continued the shoot and as a result of which his condition has worsened.

It resulted in a hairline crack.
