Youth dies amidst dancing and singing in a marriage function

Hyderabad, December 3: A youth collapsed amidst dancing and singing in a marriage function and died. The incident took place under Amberpet police station limits.

A youth named Thakur Dharam Singh had arrived here on Thursday to attend the marriage function of his friend’s sister. Dharam Singh a sales executive by occupation was busy in singing and dancing in the marriage function held at Amberpet locality when he collapsed all at once. He was immediately shifted to hospital where he died during treatment.

State government’s pre-matric scholarship

Hyderabad, December 3: As per the report of Mr. Ahmed Basheer Uddin Farooqui retired Deputy Educational Officer, the last date for renewal of state government pre-matric scholarship is December 5 and the last date for submitting first time applications is December 15.

However before that all heads of the institutions (government, aided and private) are required to get their respective schools registered at Minority Finance Corporation and get ID number and password then only the students can apply online.

Riyadh, December 03: The Al Qaeda wanted to carry out a terrorist attack in this Saudi Arabia capital, a former leader of the terrorist outfit has said.

Muhammad al-Awfi, a Saudi Arabian, said in an interview to the Arabic satellite TV channel Al-Arabiya: “Our efforts were concentrated on recruiting young Saudis, because we wanted to carry out an attack on Riyadh at all costs, given that Saudi Arabia is a reference point for the world’s Muslims.”

High alert in Telangana as Maoists make a comeback

Hyderabad, December 03: Police went on high alert in north Telangana Friday as Maoists returned to the region after lying low for several years, killing three people and abducting another three since Thursday.

Police forces, including personnel of the elite anti-Maoist Greyhounds, began combing operations Friday in Eturanagaram forests of Warangal district and also in Karimnagar, where the extremists made their presence felt by killing three people, including a small-time political functionary by branding him a police spy.

Aguilera confirms romance with Rutler

London, December 03: Pop star Christina Aguilera has accepted her much speculated relationship with Matt Rutler saying she was happy and having fun for the first time “in a really long time”.

The singer had been linked to Rutler, a set assistant from the film “Burlesque”, soon after she filed for divorce from then husband Jordan Bratman in October.

Islamabad, December 03: Pakistan’s President sought a pledge from the United Arab Emirates to allow his family long-term refuge as they did for his late wife if he died or was killed, according to a secret diplomatic cable released by WikiLeaks.

Asif Ali Zardari’s wife, former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, spent part of her eight-year self-exile in Dubai before being killed in a suicide blast in 2007 after returning to Pakistan.

Leak of documents will make expats’ job tough: US

Washington, December 03: The unauthorised release of secret documents of the US by the WikiLeaks giving an insight into American diplomacy would make the jobs of its diplomats more difficult at least in the near term, the State Department said on Friday.

“We understand that for a period of time, this is going to make our day-to-day conduct of diplomacy much more difficult,” State Department spokesman PJ Crowley told reporters at his daily news conference.

Germans more negative towards Muslims than others

Berlin, December 03: Only about one third of Germans think positively of their Muslim neighbors, a much lower proportion than in other western European countries, according to a new poll published on Thursday.

In contrast, 62 percent of Dutch and 56 percent of French people responding to the TNS Emnid survey indicated they had positive attitudes toward Muslims.

Detlef Pollack, a Muenster University sociologist who led the study, attributed Germans’ views to their lack of contact with Muslims compared to people in other nations surveyed.

Hyderabad, December 03: Former Andhra Pradesh Social Welfare Minister P Subash Chandra Bose, a key supporter of ex-Congress MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, on Thursday said he resigned from his post on moral grounds. “It was not good for me to continue as a Minister in the Cabinet as I was keenly participating in ‘Odarupu (consolation) Yatra’, organised by Jagan Mohan Reddy,” Bose told PTI.

As a Minister, I have some moral values and responsibilities. That is why, I decided to step-down from the post,” he said.

City schools to be provided with drinking water and sewerage line

Hyderabad, December 3: On the onset of the year 2011, 164 city government schools will be provided with drinking water and sewerage line facility as their New Year gift. This facility was made possible following great efforts and representations.

US envoy wanted ban on JuD delayed

Washington, December 03: Former US ambassador to Pakistan Ryan C. Crocker wanted to delay the designation of the Jamaatud- Dawa ( JuD) as a terror outfit.

This was revealed in a new batch of diplomatic cables made public by WikiLeaks on thursday night.

In the cable dated March 7, 2006, the US ambassador requested Washington to delay designation of the JuD — a cover for militant extremist outfit Lashkar- e- Tayyeba ( LeT) — as a terrorist entity until US troops left northwestern Pakistan.

Colombia elects woman attorney general

Bogota, December 03: Colombia’s Supreme Court has elected Viviane Morales as the country’s new attorney general, ending 16 months of uncertainty stemming from feuds between the previous government and the judiciary, the media said.

Colombia’s first woman attorney general was elected late Wednesday, with Morales receiving 14 of 18 votes from participating justices.

An attorney, constitutional law expert and former lawmaker who works at Caracol Radio, Morales beat out two other jurists, Juan Carlos Esguerra and Carlos Gustavo Arrieta.

40 dead, thousands flee raging Israeli bushfire

Tel Aviv, December 03: An estimated 13,000 people were forced to flee their homes in northern Israel Thursday and early Friday, as the worst bushfire in Israel’s history raged unchecked for 14 hours, killing 40 people and devouring everything in its path.

The fire broke out shortly before noon Thursday on the Carmel hill, southeast of the port city of Haifa, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described it as ‘a catastrophe, the likes of which we have not yet known’.

State Govt. employees get 8.56 pc DA hike

Hyderabad, December 3: In a move to please all his employees, teachers and workers chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy has decided at his first cabinet meeting to sanction a 8.56 percent hike in dearness allowance (DA) to state government employees which will be implemented from the month of July 2010. The arrears payable from July 1 to November 30 will be credited into the employees’ general provident fund accounts. The increase in terms of cash will be paid from December salary payable in January.

US military backs repeal of gay ban

Washington, December 03: US military leaders say America’s armed forces are ready for repealing the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy which prohibits openly gay soldiers.

The US military’s top officer Admiral Mike Mullen and Defense Secretary Robert Gates said at the Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on Thursday that troops are ready for the change.

Mullen, who serves as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said a Pentagon study has confirmed that the armed forces will not suffer any major disruption by allowing gays to serve in uniform.

One arrested for ”forceful” religious conversion

Bangalore, December 03: A 26-year-old man from Kerala was arrested here today for allegedly indulging in forceful religious conversion, police said. Following a complaint by a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activist, Ulsoor Sub-Division Police arrested Johnson and seized pamphlets and religious literature with him, they said.
