Saudi King to undergo another surgery

Riyadh, December 03: Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah is due to undergo another surgical operation on his back to mend several vertebrae in his spine, a report says.

“King Abdullah…will undergo an operation on the afternoon of December 3 to stabilize some vertebrae in his spinal cord and complete the earlier surgery he underwent,” Reuters quoted a statement by the kingdom’s royal court as saying on Friday.

The statement did not say where the new surgery would take place, but there has been no official word of the king leaving the United States.

WikiLeaks domain ‘killed by US’

New Delhi, December 03: WikiLeaks is down. The domain name for the whistleblowing website WikiLeaks.org has been taken down by its Domain Name System (DNS) provider EveryDNS.net.

WikiLeaks has confirmed the news in a post on Twitter. “WikiLeaks,org domain killed by US everydns.net after claimed mass attacks KEEP US STRONG https://donations.datacell.com/,” the tweet said.

EveryDNS said in a statement that it dropped the website late Thursday because the attacks threatened the rest of its network.

UN calls for probe into Sri Lankan troops’ war crime video

London, December 03: The UN has sought a fresh probe into alleged war crimes against Sri Lankan troops after Britain’s Channel 4 News released a video featuring soldiers executing naked men and women.

The video, which was broadcast Tuesday, shows government troops executing civilians in the last few weeks of the 26-year Sri Lanka war, which ended last year when the island government declared victory over the Tamil rebel group LTTE.

Musharraf allowed US drone surveillance, not strikes

Islamabad, December 03: Pakistan’s former president Pervez Musharraf has admitted he gave permission to carry out surveillance by the US drones to trace militant hideouts, but said he never allowed missile strike by the unmanned aircraft.

“Yes indeed, we wanted intelligence, we wanted them (the US) to locate targets,” Musharraf told Express 24/7 television channel.

The former military ruler who came to power after a bloodless coup in 1999, said there was only a “general kind of carpet agreement” with the US and surveillance was allowed on a “case to case basis”.

Ranbir’s Revenge: Deepika and Sonam thrown out

“I never thought I would make it through 10 years. I didn’t think they would give me a chance,” Abhishek, the son of megastar Amitabh Bachchan and seasoned actress Jaya Bachchan who made a not-so-successful debut with “Refugee” in 2000, told in an interview.

Artificial kidney made by Indian American awaits human trials

Washington, December 03: A coffee cup sized implantable artificial kidney being developed by a US researcher of Indian origin, is awaiting animal and human trials to bring affordable treatment to millions of kidney failure patients worldwide.

Shuvo Roy, working with a team of engineers, biologists and physicians at the University of California, San Francisco, to shrink the device to the size of a coffee cup, is “excited about advancing it towards large animal and human trials”.

Woman thrown off from house over dowry

Muzaffarnagar, December 03: A married woman was thrown off from her house by her in-laws over dowry demand at Khatoli town in the district, police said here. Radha Rani, wife of Ashu, was thrown off of the house yesterday, they said, adding she was rushed to a district hospital in serious condition.

The parents of the victim have lodged a complaint with the police against her husband and in-laws, who are absconding. Meanwhile, in a separate incident, an unidentified body of a 22-year-old girl was found from the Rajbaha near Jolly village in the district yesterday.

Shamsabad, December 3: Hajj pilgrims sent to Hajj by Andhra Pradesh Hajj committee face immense hardships in Makkah due to unsuitable and inhospitable accommodation provided to them.

H Afzal Hussain deputy sarpanch Shamsabad reported through telephone call that Hajj pilgrims faced lot of difficulties due to lack of facilities available at the place where they had been given accommodation. The pilgrims traveling in A class were also accommodated in the lowest class.

Elderly people are facing problem as the lift in not functioning, they are being carried to sixth flour by others.

Major fire in Lucknow building, no casualty

Lucknow, December 03: Panic gripped a busy market area here Friday after a major fire broke out in a commercial building in the Lalbagh area, police said. No casualty was reported in the incident.

“The fire erupted from the third floor of the building and soon spread to other floors. It is under control now and the flames will soon be doused completely,” Lucknow’s Chief Fire Officer Rajendra Tiwari told reporters.

New Delhi, December 03: The resignation of rebel Congress MP from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh, Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, has been accepted, Speaker Meira Kumar announced in the Lok Sabha on Friday.

Ms. Kumar said Mr. Jagan’s resignation has been accepted with effect from November 29.

“I have to inform the House that I have received a letter dated November 29 from Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, an elected member from Kadapa parliamentary constituency of Andhra Pradesh resigning from the membership of the Lok Sabha. I have accepted his resignation with effect from November 29,” she said.
