Palampur ,December 04: Congress yesterday attacked the BJP for its insistence on a JPC probe into the 2G spectrum allocations, saying that the opposition party was trying to bulldoze Parliament over the issue.

“A minority opposition is trying to bulldoze Parliament on the issue which is harmful for democracy”, party General Secretary Mohsina Kidwai said at a rally organised by Congress MLA G S Bali at Nagrota in Kangra district.

The party is free to have its own opinion over the issue but it should not try to impose itself on Parliament over the issue, she said.

Sarkozy arrives in India today

Bangalore, December 04: French President Nicolas Sarkozy arrived in this tech hub on Saturday on a four-day official visit to India for expanding cooperation in defence, nuclear power, sustainable development and culture.

Accompanied by a large official-cum business delegation and his celebrity wife Carla Bruni, the 55-year-old Sarkozy landed at the defence behemoth’s Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) airport in the city around 10 am amid tight security.

They fear pregnant women who are exposed to high levels of the chemical, called triclosan, may be putting their babies at risk.

Alarming new findings suggest triclosan, a powerful anti-bacterial that was developed nearly 50 years ago, may disrupt the flow of blood to the uterus, starving a baby’s brain of the oxygen it needs to develop properly.

London, December 04: Beautiful women are more likely to have daughters than their plainer counterparts, says a new study.

Satoshi Kanazawa of the London School of Economics analysed data from a survey of 17,000 babies born in Britain in March 1958 and tracked them throughout their lives.

At the age of seven, their attractiveness was rated by their teachers. When they reached 45, they were asked about the gender of any children they had, the journal Reproductive Sciences reports.

Akshay surprises Lara by shooting non-stop for 20 hours

Mumbai, December 04: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar recently surprised friend Lara Dutta by shooting for almost 20 hours at a stretch for her home production in spite of having to work round the clock.

Lara approached Akshay Kumar for a cameo in her home production to which he readily agreed. The scenes required three days from the actor, however, he couldn’t comply to the schedule since his film “Tees Maar Khan” is up for release this Christmas and he is also busy shooting for his next “Desi Boyz”.

Blast derails India-bound train in Pak

Karachi, December 04: A blast on railway tracks near Karachi early Saturday derailed two bogies of the Thar Express, which was travelling from this southern port city of Pakistan to Rajasthan in India, Geo TV reported. No casualties were reported.

The train with 155 passengers, including 50 Indians, on board derailed due to the blast triggered by the explosives planted on the up-track near Dhabeji, 67 km from Karachi. No loss of life or injury was reported, sources said.

Indian-American accused of conning musician works out plea deal

Washington, December 04: An Indian American computer store owner and his girl friend charged with taking millions of dollars from a pianist and oil fortune heir have agreed to negotiate a plea deal by March 10.

The pair accused of stealing $20 million from Roger Davidson going back to 2004 signed waivers Thursday that allow their cases to be transferred to Westchester County Court in White Plains, New York, local media reports said.

Saudi King well after surgery in US

Riyadh, December 04: The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah had a successful second operation in New York on Friday, the royal court said in a statement released by the Kingdom’s state news agency.

Earlier on Friday, the court said the King, would have surgery to stabilise vertebrae in his spinal column.

“The operation, which took place at exactly six in the morning New York time, was successful, and a second phase of physiotherapy will begin after that (the operation),” the statement issued through the Saudi Press Agency said.

Kasab now says he wasn’t at CST

Mumbai, December 04: Denying his role in the 26/11 attacks at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Railway Terminus, Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab on Friday told the Bombay high court that police had cooked up a story to falsely implicate him in the crime.

Picking up holes in the prosecution’s case and pointing out contradictions in the accounts of witnesses, defence lawyers Amin Solkar, Farhana Shah and Santosh Deshpande argued that Kasab was not present at CST when the incident happened.

WikiLeaks founder in UK, second arrest warrant likely

London, December 04: A second warrant is likely to be issued shortly for the arrest of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who is reported to be in the United Kingdom at a secret location.

His British lawyer Mark Stephens told the BBC that the police knew where Assange was living if they needed to get in touch with him. Swedish prosecutors drew up a second European arrest warrant, after the first was rejected on legal grounds. Assange is wanted in Sweden for questioning on sex crimes although no charges have been laid.

Time not conducive to grant Musharraf visa: India

New Delhi, December 04: India on Friday said time was not conducive to grant visa to former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf to visit the country.

“Time is not conducive at this point of time to grant visa to the former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf. The government, after weighing all options and taking into consideration various issues, took a decision to deny the visa,” Union External Affairs Minister S M Krishna told mediapersons in Mandya, Karnataka.

Krishna, on a private visit to his home district, however, refused to be drawn into further discussion on the issue.

CBI website hacked by ‘Pak Cyber Army’

New Delhi, December 04: In a major embarrassment, the website of premier investigating agency CBI was hacked tonight by programmers identifying themselves as “Pakistani Cyber Army”.

The home page of the CBI website had a message from the ‘Pakistani Cyber Army’ warning the Indian Cyber Army not to attack their websites.

The hackers have made a mockery of the country’s cyber security by infiltrating into the CBI website, supposed to be one of the most secure websites. The CBI is connected to the command centre of world police organisation – Interpol – 24×7.
